Chibok Bombers: Chibok Girls Turn Bombers: This Is Worse Than Death

A Military spokesperson had recently failed to deny this horrific possibility. DailyMail of UK in their publication yesterday also highlighted these fears.

So, it is possible that our Chibok 234 are now being employed as suicide bombers; killers who have not just been abandoned by us for dead, but worse yet have been abandoned by us to be indoctrinated into messengers of death.

While the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele (not Ebola as many are beginning to percolate) Jonathan was sleeping and dancing, things have surpassed our worst fears. We said the girls were as good as dead already; now they may be worse than dead. Jonathan said he could not hurry to bring back our girls, because ‘he did not want them to die in the process.’ Really? We told him to quit the BS already.

#BringBackOurGirls, dead or alive! These are things that were clear to predict. This is why we marched, we wrote and we swore.

If you did not read my “#BringBackOurGirls: 100 Days In Captivity,” I suggest you do. Permit me to re-present these portions from the sixth and ninth weeks:

“By the sixth ten days, we were angry. These were the angry days. These were the bitter days. By these ten days, something had changed. We hated the world, we hated ourselves. Some of us asked to be taken on terror missions. Some of us wanted to go out and kill. We had completely lost faith in ourselves and in the world around us. Some of us still had faith in God, but frankly, some of us just did not any more. Our captors saw this in us. They commented that we had become more deadly than them. Our conversations were cold. We laughed when they talked about their campaigns of carnage. We discussed life with them; we discussed their plans with them. We discussed death with them.

“By the ninth ten days, we spent a lot of time praying for our parents. We spent a lot of time praying for you. We felt empathy… no, pity actually for you in the world outside. You see, our fate was pretty simply laid out. We had done what we could, considering our predicament. We had been brave and fought the terrorists; some of us were killed trying. We had negotiated with them. Our destiny was determined, harsh, but circumscribed.
But how are you? How is your world? Your world full of wickedness, corruption and politics. How do you sleep at night? By these ninth ten days, we wished not to return to your wicked world – a world where you could abandon your children in the forests with very very bad men and were able to sleep at night, able to go to work the next mooring, to eat, drink, have séx, laugh and play, purchase nonsenses: a world where you could do and did nothing; a world where you could feel and felt nothing; a world where you could choose and chose nothing. You made these men. You made this world. You created this terror and you left it this way, afraid, unable or unwilling to do anything about it. Boko Haram was your reward. We felt empathy for you, who could live with yourselves knowing what you had created and that you failed for 90 days to come here and fight or die fighting to rescue your children. In these ten days we prayed for you and for Boko Haram. We prayed for the world…” Read full at [http://ends.ng/?p=1234]

Indeed it was clear to us that this abandonment, this curse will bring upon this nation more horrific punishment, as is the nature of life.

We told Jonathan from the first weeks that he should give us civilian patriots including ex-service men, youth, hunters and vigilantes the right to bear arms so we go into Sambisa and rescue and destroy – a mission our army has been too screwed up, thanks to systemic and executive corruption, to carry out. Jonathan loudly ignored us.

We told Jonathan to forget his cheap excuse of not wanting the girls’ lives to be risked and send in what troops he has; he danced and campaigned for 2015.

We told Jonathan in the first weeks of the abduction, that is the Chibok parents so chose, he should swap non combatant Boko Haram prisoners (who had no blood or rape on their hands) for the abducted girls, he rather abandoned the families till the great Malala came, and after she directed him to see them in Abuja, he rather ‘bribed’ them with N100m to forget their daughters and be quiet.

So Nigeria continues to live the curse. We continue to be plagued by this virus, worse and more deadly than Ebola. For Ebola leaves at least 10% of its victims alive, however this E**** virus does not only kill its victims, but also turns them into death machines.

After every hardship there is a time of respite and ease. So He has promised. Soon this noisome era in Nigeria's history shall pass... some months, maybe years, but soon it will surely pass and we will have life again and be emancipated from this death spewing virus of corruption.

May the good and kind Lord have mercy on the Chibok girls and on us.

Dr. Peregrino Brimah

The leaders are Presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone, Mrs Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Ernest BaiKoroma, respectively.

Meanwhile, professional health bodies and medical experts have condemned Nigeria’s response to the global outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease. They strongly condemned what they described as poor preventive measures put in place by the Federal Government.

Nigeria has recorded the death of an Ebola victim, Patrick Sawyer, who flew into the country on July 20.

The deceased collapsed on his arrival in Lagos and was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with EVD. He later died on July 25.

Ebola, which has killed scores in Guinea, Gambia and Sierra Leone and Liberia, is an acute viral illness and often characterised by fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat.

These are followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding.

A virologist and President, Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof. Oyewole Tomori, in an interview with Punch on Saturday, decried that the porous nature of Nigerian hospitals would allow the disease to spread easily between patients and health workers.

He said, “In an ideal situation, there is no need to close the border. As a matter of fact, there are too many entry points into the country. How many of these can be closed? But beyond closing the borders is the actual state of preparedness. The truth of the matter is we’re not prepared.

“Also, the government needs to collaborate with private medical laboratory facilities. Testing for the Ebola Virus Disease isn’t something that can be done in a moment. It takes time. The Federal Ministry of Health should now be asking laboratory facilities what they have and what they need, as part of preparedness, in case there’s an overwhelming need for blood samples to be tested for the virus.

“The bottom line of my response is that the country is not prepared for an outbreak of the Ebola virus.”

Prof. Tomori lamented that the case of late Sawyer caught Nigeria unawares. He said, “We are not prepared to handle any outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease. There’s no sign of any state of preparedness. What happened in the case of the dead Liberian man with Ebola virus visiting Nigeria was circumstantial. It was not that we prepared for it as a nation.

“If the man had not been sick at the point he arrived in Nigeria, he could have travelled to Calabar for his conference. At that point it would likely be difficult to know there was a case of Ebola in the country. He could have died in Calabar without any trace.

“Interestingly too, what happened at the airport seemed to be a blessing in disguise. Just imagine what could have happened, had the Nigerian Medical Association not been on strike. The situation could have been worse by now. If medical doctors were not on strike, with the Liberian arriving sick at the Nigerian airport, he would likely have been taken to one of the government hospitals.

“In government hospitals, there are many people around; you have many outpatients and visitors who could have come in close contact with the man (Sawyer); that could have been a disaster.”

I was born and raised in Lagos. If you are born and bred in a place and you see that the place is not well run, what do you do? You go for the government. That was why I ran in 2003. It was my candidacy that made them pick two Igbo people to be part of the government in Lagos – Ben Akabueze and Joe Igbokwe. It was just to deceive novices that Igbo people are in government. Except the Awori, nobody owns Lagos. Most of the people claiming Lagos came from nearby Yoruba states.

Truth is bitter. The piece I am set to write already gives me a foretaste of bitterness. A signal of the sure surge of fury, resentment and provocation its caption is likely to provoke in most readers, at least, at first sight. This seemingly pessimistic and, probably, outwardly ill-wishing title may even, compel some, in a rage of rashness, to cast me off as a Boko Haram apologist or even an outright Boko Haramite. And, before I get crucified, let me quickly reiterate that my seeming hopelessness came from the n*ked dehumanisation of the masses I sighted as this overloaded six-passenger bus sn*ked its way through some city-based ‘villages’ on a domestic journey. Nothing in all I saw, left and right, suggested the presence of a government, monarchy or leadership of any sort that cared for the basic human needs that would ensure that natural humans get nurtured into social humans.
The adage, man is a product of his environment, thus, asked me a painful rhetorical question: Can these hostile-living conditions produce socially-responsible masses filled with blood of love for fellow citizens of ‘strange’ origin, religion, education
BIG TROUBLE: President Jonathan Playing With Serious Fire

What he meant then is crystallizing: instigate (read bribe) troublemakers to pester the opposition, induce opposition members to cross over to the ruling party, and suborn state lawmakers to remove opposition governors and install PDP governors. The steamroller is on.

It seems most strange that a government that has failed on all fronts and buffeted by terrorists is opening up more war fronts. Has it come to this? Has the destruction of Nigeria become state policy?

This madness must stop...POLIT

The world should see the hand of tyranny in the impeachment of Adamawa State governor Murtala Nyako and the forced resignation of his deputy Bala James Ngilari yesterday. Only on Monday, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly began impeachment proceedings against Governor Tanko Al-Makura. Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole has been in the line of fire because some APC House members have been bought over and the minority PDP members are said to be dangling the impeachment threat. Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi knows that some of the state’s lawmakers are ganging up against him. Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is also facing a benign threat of impeachment. These five governors have one thing in common: they are APC members. There are fears that Kano, another APC state, may also have its governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, dragged to the execution range soon.

Anyone who doubts the motive behind the destabilisation plot should consider that the governors have six months to face the electorate again or about a year to leave office after
completing
two terms. Which impeachment offences remained hidden for seven years but were discovered only towards the end of their tenure?

And why is it that vestiges of trouble only begin to emerge in non-PDP states after their governors defect? Is it a coincidence that terrorists discover a state only when its governor leaves the PDP and joins the opposition party? And why is it that whenever a scandal is about to be unearthed – like the missing $20billion and the chartered jet saga – terrorist activities intensify to divert the people’s attention? It is about time these questions are answered.

But those who seek to destroy Nigeria through non-tolerance of the opposition should read the handwriting on the wall of history. There is no doubt that a good number of the evil people that have held the nation hostage operate freely under the umbrella of the ruling party. It is the same kind of people that wrecked the First, Second and Third republics. And, after the first round of elections in the Fourth Republic, they all found shelter under one umbrella, because they couldn’t play or stand opposition politics.

The Jonathan government is jittery because a mega party that could defeat the PDP in next year’s elections has been formed. Apparently unable to stop the wind of change and acting in desperation, the government has found a leeway by destroying everything and everyone associated with the APC.

Left to the PDP government, there should be no elections in 2015. After eliminating all the APC governors and replacing them with PDP stooges, for instance, the coast would be clear for a repeat of the Ekiti “magic” in other states.

Yet, there is nothing strange about what has happened in Adamawa, what is happening in Nasarawa and what could happen in Edo, Rivers, Imo and Kwara states. Party stalwarts are directed to dip their hands into nest-bags of money stolen from public funds; they gather members of a state assembly and haul scores of millions of naira on those willing to swear to an oath of trust. After Ghana-must-go bags have changed hands, it is time to gather impeachment offences.

Can the lawmakers in Adamawa look the public straight in the eye and swear that the impeachment of Nyako was done in the best interest of the state; that it was an altruistic exercise?

As the steamroller turns to Nasarawa, the lawmakers may find it convenient to argue that in a democracy the majority must have its way. But we know that their action is hardly in defence of democracy. Is there a relationship between the bond that the Nasarawa State governor has raised and the impeachment threat? At a time of serious national crisis brought on by the incompetence of the Jonathan-led government, politicians must stop playing with fire. They must stop playing with the future of the country. The madness must stop.

From the missing Chibok girls to the general insecurity in the country and from the unaccounted for $20billion to the troves of unattended reports on stolen funds, there’s more than enough serious work to be done. It beggars belief that at a time when the government should double-down on retrieving the country from the jaws of terrorists and thieves, it is very busy plotting to silence the opposition.

And we must say that we are worried by the deafening silence of elder statesmen, who only on July 8, 2014, met Jonathan on the state of the nation. Their continuous silence not only emboldens this government it gives the impression that the unfolding tragedy carries their stamp of approval.

It was Adamawa yesterday, Nasarawa today, where next? If we are serious about keeping this country together – as we believe we should – then it’s time to pay more than lip service to the ties that bind us.

We must stop the bull in the china shop now, or risk losing the shop, the wares and the bull as well. We advise the Presidency and the PDP against starting another fire. Nobody knows how it will end.

By Leadership Editors
