A socio-political group, Lagos non-indigene Alliance, has urged PDP to immediately suspend Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who sued the party last week.<o:p></o:p></div>

care..?.well,the maid has been sentenced to four years in jail, in a 
case which sparked national outrage after a video was released.<br />

Jolly Tumuhirwe, 22, was filmed beating, kicking and stamping on the 
18-month-old child.On Friday, she said the attack was revenge after she 
was beaten by the child's mother.<br />

The mother denied beating her. Earlier charges of torture were 
dropped.Chief Magistrate Lillian Buchan told Tumuhirwe she had committed
 an "unjustifiable and inexcusable" crime.<br />

 "ruthlessness exhibited" on an "innocent, helpless child", reports the

camera the child's father, Eric Kamanzi, had installed in his home after
 noticing his daughter was bruised and limping.<br />

He reported the abuse to police last month and circulated the video 
online to family members. The footage was later shared more widely, 
provoking horror and upset internationally.Psychological consequences<br />
<br />
After the sentencing, Mr Kamanzi said: "It's not for us to decide the punishment for what she committed.<br />
<br />
"We hope this has set an example for other maids out there, that you 
can't just go to someone's house and torture their baby and expect to 
walk out," AFP reports.<br />

Another family member, Rose Zimulinda, said the child was physically 
well now but there were likely to be longer term psychological 
consequences.<br />
<br />
In Uganda, there is no requirement for people paid to look after children to have qualifications.<br />
<br />
Police have recommended that parents do background checks with friends, 
neighbours, local police, council and previous employers before taking 
on nannies or maids given these responsibilities.</div>

SCOAN-- Coroner suspends Joshua’s invitation

<br /> Relief came the way of the founder of Synagogue Church of All 
Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua, on Monday as he has been permitted to 
stay away from the coroner’s sitting.<br />

The coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, said the invitation earlier extended to Joshua has been suspended.<br /><br />
Komolafe said at the resumed hearing of the matter on Monday that the
 suspension of Joshua’s appearance is pending the determination of his 
suit before Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.<br />

<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>Komolafe had issued witness summons on relevant individuals and 
institutions, including Joshua to enable them give evidence on the 
September 12 collapse of a six- storey guest house belonging to the 
church.<br />

At least 115 persons, mostly of South Africans died in the incident.<br /><br />
The coroner had summoned the witnesses under the powers conferred on it by the Lagos State Coroner’s System Law No.7 of 2007.<br /><br />
But the founder of the Synagogue Church had filed an application 
before Justice Okunnu, seeking to stay proceedings of the inquest.<br /><br />
Joshua in the said application dated November 11, 2014, before the 
court and marked ID/188MJR/2014 had asked for a judicial review of the 
coroner’s proceedings, which began on October 13.<br /><br />
He urged the court to declare that his invitation to appear as a 
witness before the coroner was a breach of his rights to fair hearing, 
as no case had been established against his person before the coroner.<br />

He further contested that the coroner had been extending his inquisitions into areas beyond its statutory purview.</div>

                  The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) failed on Monday in a bid to sack
 the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, as a 
Federal High Court in Abuja refused an ex parte motion filed by its 
member, Abiodun Akinlade.<br /><br />
Akinlade, a member of the House or Representatives, representing Yewa
 South/Ipokia Federal Constituency of Ogun State, had by the motion, 
sought to restrain Tambuwal “from continuing to act or parade himself as
 the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of 
Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”<br />

<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>He also sought an order dispensing with personal service and for 
substituted service on Tambuwal “by serving all processes in this suit 
in the office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Abuja, Nigeria.”<br /><br />
Akinlade’s lawyer, Babs Akinwumi, while moving the ex-parte motion, 
urged the court to grant the interim injunctions sought by his client 
pending the hearing of the substantive suit earlier filed by Akinlade.<br />

Ruling, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, refused Akinlade’s prayers on the 
ground that it was unfair to all defendants in the case for the court to
 make ex-parte orders against them when they were already aware of the 
case and were represented in court by lawyers.<br />

He ordered Akinlade to convert he ex-parte application to a motion on
 notice and serve it on the defendants to enable them respond to it.<br /><br />
“In this situation, all the parties are represented in this case. It 
will be most unfair to grant an order ex parte against a party that has 
representatives in a case,” the judge said.<br /><br />
He fixed January 19 for further hearing on the case.<br />

Defendants in the suit are Tambuwal (as the first defendant), the 
House of Representatives and the Independent National Electoral 
Commission (INEC).</div>

 late Aremu whose age was put around 56 years, was a driver to S.K 
Transport Service Nigeria Limited . He reportedly loaded the truck with 
with aviation fuel worth N5.5 million and consequently left Lagos for 
Port Harcourt on November 13, 2014, to discharge the product.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">But before 
leaving Lagos State, he was said to have invited Saidu to work with him 
as his motor boy, with a promise to pay him an undisclosed amount at the
 end of the trip.But little did he realize that the invitation would end
 his life.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The first 
sign that signalled an unpalatable situation for the truck driver, 
followed difficulty by his employee to reach him on his mobile phone, 
two days after he embarked on the journey.Further checks from the 
tracking device on the truck reportedly showed that the truck had been 
diverted from its original route to somewhere around Mutum Biu, in 
Taraba state.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Suspecting 
that the driver had a sinister motive up his sleeve ,the company 
reportedly lodged a complaint at the State Criminal Investigation 
Department SCID, Yaba, where detectives swung into action by travelling 
to Taraba state. Fortunately for them, the truck was recovered at the 
Taraba state Police Command, with only Saidu, the motorboy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I stabbed him, threw him out of the truck</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Preliminary 
investigation as gathered , revealed that Saidu allegedly murdered the 
truck driver before diverting the truck to the northern part of the 
country.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">In this 
interview, Saidu gave a graphic description of how he stabbed his master
 with a knife and threw him out of the truck , before taking over the 
steering..</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Asked what made him carry out such dastardly act, Saidu replied : </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“ I killed Mr Aremu because I wanted to sell the aviation fuel and use the money to travel to Dubai on a business trip”</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Narrating how he snuffed life out of Aremu whom he fondly called baba Oyo, , Saidu said: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“ A day 
after we left Lagos, at about 6pm, the company called baba Oyo and 
instructed him to park at Umunede, Delta state for security reason and 
that he should proceed on the journey the following day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">While there ,
 I bought a knife without him knowing and tied it with a rope on my leg.
 Very early the third day, baba Oyo started the ignition to continue the
 journey. As he was about to move, I told him that one of the tyres had 
developed a fault. I came out of the vehicle and pretended to be 
checking the tyres. I went to his side of the truck, bent down as if 
checking the tyres and in the process, I brought out my knife. But as I 
raised my hand to stab him, he held my hand and we started struggling, 
in the process of which the knife cut me on the index finger. I 
succeeded in stabbing him first on the lap and blood started gushing 
out. Again, I stabbed him again in the stomach, leaving the knife in 
there. By then he was too weak to shout.Thereafter, I pushed him out of 
the vehicle and mounted the driver’s seat and zoomed off.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My intention
 was to take the aviation fuel to Taraba state and sell it at the black 
market. When I got to Adamawa state, I sold four drums , at the rate of 
N28,000 per drum. On reaching Katsina Ala, the truck developed a fault 
and I ended up spending N57,000 to fix it. I continued the journey but 
on reaching Mutum Biu, I was stopped by some soldiers who were on a 
joint operation with the Police, at a check point. They demanded for the
 way bill and I showed them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">But one of 
the policemen asked where the plate number was and I brought it out from
 where I kept it. I had earlier removed it because the company’s number 
was inscribed on it. When the policemen dialled the telephone number, 
they discovered that the vehicle was supposed to be heading for Port 
Harcourt. When they asked what it was doing at Taraba, I could not 
provide a ready answer and I was subsequently apprehended”</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I wanted to raise 150,000</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The father of five whose family resides in Adamawa state further disclosed that </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“ I did what
 I did in order to raise N150,000 for a ticket to Dubai. A friend of 
mine who lives in Kano usually travels to Dubai to buy handsets and sell
 in Kano. He told me he would take me down if I could raise N150,000. 
That was why I did what I did. But with the look of things, it is 
obvious that I am in a big trouble and may never come out of from it for
 the rest of my life”, he stated remorsefully.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Information 
at Crime Guard’s disposal revealed that operatives at the SCID would be 
leaving Lagos for Umunede in Delta state, to inspect the spot where the 
suspect claimed to have thrown Aremu’s body, with a view to ascertaining
 whether he is alive or not.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Police 
sources however hinted that the driver’s seat of the recovered truck was
 stained with blood, adding that at the end of investigation, the 
suspect would be charged to court for murder and stealing.</span> </div>

 landscape photographer Peter Lik has taken the crown for most expensive
 photo ever sold. “Phantom,” the picture shown above, was sold to a 
private collector for a staggering $6.5 million. The record was 
previously held by Andreas Gursky’s “Rhein II”, which sold for $4.3 
million back in 2011.<br /><br />“Phantom” was captured at Arizona’s 
Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon that’s popular among landscape 
photographers, and shows a beam of light resembling a “ghostlike figure”
 (hence the name). It’s a black-and-white version of a photograph that 
has also been printed in color with the title, “Ghost.”<br /><br />Lik also 
announced that the same buyer purchased two other photographs for $2.4 
million and $1.1 million (“Illusion” and “Eternal Moods,” respectively),
 giving Lik four photos in the list of 20 most expensive photos of all
