It's a fallacy because I  never spoke to anyone about Echejile."</em><br /> <br />The tournament kicks off today, June 12. Nigeria is to play its first  game against Iran on June 16, then the Eagles will face  Bosnia-Herzegovina (June 21) and finally the strongest opponent in the  Group Argentina (June 25).</div>

President Jonathan, Federal Executive Council Honour Dora Akunyili

What she  did was to warn his steward not to serve him cold bread to avoid  contracting ulcer.<br /> <br />Jonathan praised Akunyili for her passion when she was working as  NAFDAC Director General. He stressed that although most of the people  who were involved in the fake drugs trade were Akunyili's kinsmen, she  fought them courageously.<br /> <br />The president also noted that the ex-minister's rebranding campaign  for the country, with the popular slogan 'Good people, great nation',  has remained enduring and ingrained in the minds of many Nigerians.<br /> <em>"She is not with us but I believe this is how God wanted it. He  saved her life from the assassin's bullet. She ensured that the issue of fake drug in  Nigeria was addressed,"</em> he said.<br /> <br />Secretary to Government of the Federation <strong>Pius Anyim</strong> described Akunyili as a true nationalist and a reformer, while the Head of Service <strong>Goni Aji</strong> said: <em>"NAFDAC,  under Akunyili, emerged first in the rankings under the Civil Service  programme to transform it into a world class service."</em><br /> <br />The Minister of Finance <strong>Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala</strong>, who led the tribute from Ministers, described Akunyili as a woman <em>"who spoke and worked the passion"</em>.  During Akunyili' time, NAFDAC was consistently voted the best  government agency because of her diligence, the finance minster said.</div>

Pope Francis Reveals What He Wants At 2014 World Cup In Brazil

In my secondary school days, one of my best subjects was  history. I was passionate about the subject for two reasons. First, I  loved history because of its power to connect the past with the present  and teach valuable lessons about the human race. The subject shaped my  worldview about how the actions of our past villains and heroes have  shaped our world. I have my history teacher to thank for letting me  appreciate a subject that teaches enduring lessons about humanity; about  the past and present. I remember his favourite Jorge Santayana's quote  which often served as the prologue to every class: "Those who cannot  remember the past are condemned to repeat it."</div>

My history teacher got me fascinated about the life and  times of influential women who shaped our world. In our history class,  he regaled us with the heroics of great Amazons like Joan the Arc, a  woman who was instrumental to the Hundred Years War, who at the time she  passed became a saint. From him, we learnt about the life and times of  Indira Gandhi, a former Prime Minister of India. She was the daughter of  Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. In 1984, Indira met a  brutal death at the hands of Sikh assassins in retaliation for her  forceful actions to halt disturbances in a sacred Sikh temple.</div>

We also learnt about the iconic Golda Meir, a former Israeli Prime  Minister. Until her ascendancy as Prime Minister, Golda was an  influential party woman in the Labour Party. There was also Catherine  the Great, the Empress of Russia. Ambitious and intelligent, Catherine  considered herself a ruler in line with enlightenment ideas; she  supported progressive ideas, such as reforms in law, education, and  provincial and municipal administration. There was Queen Isabella who  with her husband, King Ferdinand II of Aragon, unified Spain through  their joint rule of Castile and Aragon. Together, they brought many  improvements to Spain, including reducing crime and debt. My history  teacher told us of Florence Nightingale an English nurse, considered a  pioneer in modern nursing.<br />

There was also Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin  Roosevelt. Eleanor was a prominent figure during WWII, a skilled writer,  politician, and activist. She served as the Chairperson of the United  Nations Human Rights Commission. Back at home, our history I learnt  about the heroics of Queen Amina, Efunsetan Aniwura and Emotan. There  were also influential Nigerian women who confronted colonialism. Gloria  Ekpo and Olufunmilayo Kuti, both stood tall in the category of Amazons  who blazed the trail for Nigerian women and proved that what a man can  do, a woman can do much better. I have learnt about the life and time of  women many great women who have been inventors, scientists, prime  ministers and presidents who have influenced the world in their chosen  fields.<br />
<br />
Now, our iconic Dora Akunyili, will stand tall when the stories of  great women who influenced our world are being told. But did I just  refer to our beloved Aunty Dora in the past tense? No, Dora Akunyili  cannot exist in the past. She may be dead, but she lives on. Aunty Dora  can never die. How can she die when her deeds and service to fatherland  will always remain unforgettable? In the years to come, future  generations will be taught of her heroic deeds. The legendary Dora  Akunyili was many things to us, she wore several attributes. She was a  wife, mother, first class academic, activist and public servant. She was  a Nigerian in the true sense of the word and represented the best in  us. She was the symbol of what is good about humanity.<br />

Akunyili saved our lives. As the Director General of the National  Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, her name was  synonymous with quality. She fought the merchants of death to a  standstill. She was the nemesis of those who peddled fake drugs; those  whose actions threatened the lives of Nigerians. Her name invoked fear  among fake drug barons. She was the Nigerian Amazon who became the  symbol of excellence in public service. Aunty Dora sacrificed her  comfort for our country. She faced death so the Nigerian child can live.  She denied herself so our mothers can administer safe drugs to their  children.<br />
<br />
Akunyili was everything good. She was fearless, incorruptible, bold  and principled. She was a patriot, a nationalist and a completely  detribalised Nigerian. At a time when her ilks were chasing the mundane,  the woman with the simple Ankara fabric worked to confront the monsters  of fake drugs. At time when Nigerians had become powerless, Akunyili  made NAFDAC one of the most effective organisations in the country. In  her time, she faced many death threats. She was shot at but she was  resolute, she never backed down. She never wavered in her resolve to rid  our country of fake drugs. Her quest to continue her service to the  nation and humanity also saw her contesting a Senate seat for her  Anambra State. How could she not have won? But that is the tragedy of  our politics.<br />
<br />
Akunyili seemed to have her time in public service cut out for her.  Her birth in Markudi made her a Pan-Nigerian. There was no Igbo, Hausa  or Yoruba. For her, there was always one Nigerian. How many of us  remember her "Rebranding Nigeria Project? That is the quintessential  Dora Akunyili, a believer in the values we once held dear. Even till her  death, in a moving speech at the National Conference, she passionately  appealed to delegates to join hands together to build a united Nigeria.  At the confab, Nigerians were shocked to see our beautiful Aunty Dora  physically drained from the effect of her illness but her passion was  unmistakable. Her address to the confab members to build a "Nigeria of  our dream" was infectious. It was such deep conviction that drove her  existence in this world. It was this belief in Nigeria that guided her  exemplary service to our country. She was a rare breed.<br />
A story was once told about Akunyili's aversion to corruption. In the  early days after her appointment as NAFDAC boss, some middle men acting  as front for fake drug barons in the country were said to have  approached her to look the other way as they flooded the market with  fake drugs. They made a representation to her with irresistible bribe  money worth millions in foreign currency. At the time, the fake drug  mafia ruled the industry. Akunyili was said to have uncharacteristically  honoured the meeting. But she did the unthinkable by Nigerian standard.  She had the fake drug lords arrested and prosecuted. That was  quintessential Akunyili. Her appointment as NAFDAC DG was also informed  by another act of virtuousness. As an official of the Petroleum Trust  Fund, she was reported to have returned to the fund excess money meant  for her medical bill. In a country where corruption is synonymous with  our national life, Akunyili stood out like a shining star. Government  should immortalise the best president we never had. Rest in Peace Aunty  Dora.<br />

New Emir Of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Receives Letter Of Appointment

Princess Stella Oduah Gets Chieftancy Title In Anambra

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>An ex Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi,  was decorated with a Chieftaincy title in Ogbaru Local Government Area  of Anambra State on June 7, 2014.</strong><br /> <br />The former minister, involved in the controversial N255m bullet-proof  BMWs purchase, got "Ada Eze Chukwu" title for her "outstanding service  to Nigeria".<br /> The ceremony was led by the traditional ruler of Ogbaru, Igwe Nelson  Ethmal and had lots of dignitaries, including Senator Ben Obi, in  attendance.<br /> <br />The senator tagged Stella Oduah as a visionary, who was able to  achieve a lot in male-dominated world. He reminded about her great  contribution in upgrading the 22 domestic airports. <br /> For instance, the Enugu airport, now Akanu Ibiam International  Airport, got the status of the international airport and became an  important hub for the whole South East.<br /> <br />It would be noted that Stella Oduah was <strong>removed from her post by President Goodluck Jonathan</strong> on February 12, 2014, due to armoured cars scandal. However, no one enjoys being in the  presence of someone who nags one like (s)he is under the influence of  some territorial powers. Frustrating the life out of your partner is a  liberal invitation for emotional distantness and eventual separation.<br /> <br /><strong>Showing Your Partner Little or No Respect</strong><br /> Respect for your partner here doesn't imply reverencing him/her like:  His royal majesty or Her royal highness, etc. It means giving him/her  regard by not doing the things that (s)he detest.<br /> <br /><strong>Badmouthing Him/Her To Others</strong><br /> Involving a third, fourth or hundredth party in your relationship  should always be done with caution and prudence. The 'who' to tell and  'what' to say could make or mar your relationship. However, constantly  badmouthing and negatively painting your partner bad to outsiders not  only hurt your partner when they have the knowlegde of your action and  words but ultimately sacrifices the relationship on the alter of unwise  behaviour. US Lambasts Tinubu Over ‘Rig And Roast’ Threat

The US has been deeply troubled by some of the  rhetoric that has been thrown around in recent weeks and months as these  elections have drawn closer. It is perfectly acceptable, and even  praiseworthy, to seek to defend your vote and that of your fellow  citizens who share your support for a particular candidate.<br /> "It is not, however, productive or reasonable to threaten violence,  even when you perceive others have been guilty of misconduct. We were  deeply troubled by the threat of "rig and roast" issued multiple times  by a major political figure in recent weeks. Who benefits from that type  of violent rhetoric, we wondered? And why would any ordinary Nigerian  accept such provocative language, especially considering the history of  post-election violence in Nigeria, and the truly horrific carnage that  this country has been suffering at the hands of Boko Haram?<br /> <br />"If a candidate believes an election is threatened, then that  candidate should be doing everything possible to see that the rules of  the game are enforced properly - by having party agents in the numerous  locations where they are permitted, for example, to bear witness to what  happens - or doesn't happen. That is part of the painstaking work of  participating in, and building, a democracy. Drawing on or threatening  violence is an attempt to short-circuit that process for the benefit of a  few, but to the detriment of many."<br /> <br />The US Consul General lamented that no election had been generally  accepted to be credible in the country except that of 1993, which the  late Moshood Abiola won but was later rejected.<br /> While urging Nigerians to emulate the US politicians, Hawkins added,  "It is undoubtedly important and interesting to see who the winners and  losers in Ekiti and Osun will be, and how the outcomes will affect the  national political picture in advance of next February's elections.<br /> <br />"Nigerians have fought long and hard to earn the democratic rights  they now possess, and Nigerians want - and deserve - peaceful, credible  elections in Ekiti on June 21, in Osun on August 9, and across this  great country in February 2015. That's why these elections are a  critical juncture. Before I begin, I want to remind my dear intelligent readers that  everyone is entitled to his/her opinions about everything. I shouldn't  be critisized for my opinion no matter how silly it may seem.<br /><div></div><div>No girl is missing! That's what I believe. The two hundred and something  number that keeps wavering is a facade as far as I'm concerned. I do  not hold this opinion because Alhaji Asari Dokubo claims same, but  because I see reason with him. To start with, the issue has been made so  complicated by the people involved that nobody knows who or what to  believe anymore. </div><div></div><div>Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insist that my opinion is correct  neither am I trying to impose it on anyone, I'm only trying to express  it without mincing words...</div><div><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=1273158107245326844" name="more"></a></div><div>I may be wrong, I may also be right. How possible is it that the parents  or relatives of people who have been missing for nearly two months will  be comfortable and not promote or organize any intense action when they  know that the lives of their loved ones are in danger? </div><div></div><div>No parent can feel comfortable with the gruesome images of their child  being tortured by terrorists frizzling in their minds, yet we have not  seen any parent start a facebook page in the bid to protest or even  storm the newspapers with his/her appeal to the government. So far, the  parents of these "missing kids" have not been shown on TV, interviewed  on radio nor have they come out to express their pain. Beside that, why  is it that the names or the identities of the missing girls have never  been revealed to the country. </div><div></div><div>If they are truly missing and they show us their identities, it would  help for recognition of them if any 'escapes'. I know it would be very  hard for anyone to believe that the large world virtual protest was done  for something that isn't even real, but as far as I can see in this  issue, that is the case. When the First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan  tried to get into the case and help, the principal of the school kept  acting like a dumb fool and dodging as if she had something to hide. </div><div></div><div>If the principal really had nothing to hide, why did she find it so hard  to bring along the people that the first lady summoned in respect to  the case. Anyway, that's another day's topic. But what I want to air is  that nobody is missing. The whole thing is a setup to humiliate  Jonathan's government. It's hard to believe that people can be kept for  so long in reality, yet the issue only came as a drifting saga through  the minds of the masses, a simple come and go experience. </div><div></div><div>Even if the Nigerian security forces are as incompetent as we claim they  are, they should have been able to rescue the girls by now if they are  really missing. Even though Boko Haram showed us video evidence, that  evidence can easily be dispersed as false. It's too easy for the  uneducated indigenes of some northern areas that are in support of Boko  Haram to give or sell their daughters to boko haram to front as proof of  people missing by showing them in a video dressed in islamic dresses  and reciting the quran. </div><div></div><div>Is it not the same Boko Haram that brought in another entirely different  man claiming he is Shekau when the original Shekau is dead?<br /><br />In summary, conclusion and simple words, nobody is missing. The escaped victim narrated her story describing Shekau.</div><blockquote class="tr_bq">"<span style="color: #cc0000;">He seems to be panicking all the time and issuing instructions</span>.  He is a softly spoken man – it is almost as if he whispers, if you are  meeting him for the first time, you would never be scared of him. She  lamented the abductees had to travel a lot, which was hard for her "with  a baby strapped to my back".<br /><br />Some girls are forced to carry guns and bombs, one even a rocket-propelled grenade launcher on her shoulder.</div><div><br />Meenah was badly shot in the leg, when the Nigerian army stormed the  Boko Haram camp, but she managed to escape. Olaoluwa Oluwadara, 24, has bagged a Ph.D degree in Mathematics at the  just concluded 2012/2013 session convocation ceremony at the University  of Lagos. Olaoluwa, who bagged his first and second degrees in   Mathematics and Physics  in 2007 and 2008 respectively from the  Universite de B-angui in Central African Republic, graduated with a  Cummulative Gross Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 [first degree].<br />
<br />
Olaoluwa’s feat supersedes that of Olabisi Adeyemi, a 26-year-old female  who bagged a Ph.D with a CGPA of 4.98 in 2012 and Opeyemi Shodipe, 25  of Babcock University.<br />

Speaking during the convocation, the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG,  Professor Rahmon Bello, appealed to the President, Goodluck Jonathan,   to urgently intervene in the resolution of the over 10-month strike  embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and the  Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Education of Nigeria (ASUCEON). <br />
<br />
He appealed to the Federal Government to consider the demands of the  striking lecturers to ensure that students of the polytechnics and  colleges of education resumed their academic works as failure to do so  would be putting the lives of the leaders of tomorrow in jeopardy.<br />
<br />
He said the call has become urgent, "in the interest of students and to  stem the falling standard of education and the increasingly degenerating  infrastructure facilities worsened by the insurgency of Boko Haram."</div>

ASUP Strike: Polytechnic Lecturers Say No Plan To Call Off Strike Today, 12th June, 2014

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) yesterday dismissed speculations that the union is calling off its strike today, saying “there was no plan to call off the strike on Thursday June 12.”<br />National President of the union, Mr Chibuzo Asomugha told<br /><br />Our grapevine on phone yesterday that “I don’t know about calling off of our strike tomorrow,<br />(today). We are just having our regular emergency NEC meeting on Thursday June 12 and maybe that is where the rumours emanated.”<br /> <br />Polytechnics lecturers have been on strike since October 4, 2013 demanding for the constitution of the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics, the migration of the lower cadres on the CONTISS 15 salary scale, the release of the White Paper on the visitations to Federal Polytechnics, and the need for the commencement of the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Polytechnics.<br /> <br />He said: “We don’t have any plan to call off the strike until all our demands are fulfilled by the federal government.<br /><br />Asomugha however said the executives of the union are to meet with government delegation on June 24, stressing that tomorrow’s been purely ASUP’s business.<br /> <br />Several meetings were earlier held between the striking lecturers and government delegation led by the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike but all ended in deadlocks.</div>

The first step is to  focus on increasing your income in increments and repeating that. My  income was $3,000 a month and nine years later it was $20,000 a month.  Start following the money and it will force you to control revenue and  see opportunities.<br /> <br /> 2. <strong>Don’t show off</strong> – show up! I didn’t buy my first  luxury watch or car until my businesses and investments were producing  multiple secure flows of income. I was still driving a Toyota Camry when  I had become a millionaire. Be known for your work ethic, not the  trinkets that you buy.<br /> <br />3. <strong>Save to invest, don’t save to save.</strong> The only  reason to save money is to invest it. Put your saved money into secured,  sacred (untouchable) accounts. Never use these accounts for anything,  not even an emergency. This will force you to continue to follow step  one (increase income). To this day, at least twice a year, I am broke  because I always invest my surpluses into ventures I cannot access.<br /> <br />4. <strong>Avoid debt that doesn’t pay you.</strong> Make it a rule  that you never use debt that won’t make you money. I borrowed money for a  car only because I knew it could increase my income. Rich people use  debt to leverage investments and grow cash flows. Poor people use debt  to buy things that make rich people richer.<br /> <br />5. <strong>Treat money like a jealous lover.</strong> Millions wish  for financial freedom, but only those that make it a priority have  millions. To get rich and stay rich you will have to make it a priority.  Money is like a jealous lover. Ignore it and it will ignore you, or  worse, it will leave you for someone who makes it a priority.<br /> <br />6. <strong>Money doesn’t sleep.</strong> Money doesn’t know about  clocks, schedules or holidays, and you shouldn’t either. Money loves  people that have a great work ethic. When I was 26 years old, I was in  retail and the store I worked at closed at 7 p.m. Most times you could  find me there at 11p.m. making an extra sale. Never try to be the  smartest or luckiest person — just make sure you outwork everyone.<br /> <br />7. <strong>Poor makes no sense</strong>. I have been poor, and it  sucks. I have had just enough and that sucks almost as bad. Eliminate  any and all ideas that being poor is somehow OK. Bill Gates has said,  “If you’re born poor, it’s not your mistake. But if you die poor, it is  your mistake.”<br /> <br />8. <strong>Get a millionaire mentor.</strong> Most of us were brought  up middle class or poor and then hold ourselves to the limits and ideas  of that group. I have been studying millionaires to duplicate what they  did. Get your own personal millionaire mentor and study them. Most rich  people are extremely generous with their knowledge and their resources.<br /> <br />9. <strong>Get your money to do the heavy lifting.</strong> Investing  is the Holy Grail in becoming a millionaire and you should make more  money off your investments than your work. If you don’t have surplus  money you won’t make investments. The second company I started required a  $50,000 investment. That company has paid me back that $50,000 every  month for the last 10 years. My third investment was in real estate,  where I started with $350,000, a large part of my net worth at the time.  I still own that property today and it continues to provide me with  income. Investing is the only reason to do the other steps, and your  money must work for you and do your heavy lifting.<br /> <br />10. <strong>Shoot for $10 million, not $1 million</strong>. The  single biggest financial mistake I’ve made was not thinking big enough. I  encourage you to go for more than a million. There is no shortage of  money on this planet, only a shortage of people thinking big enough.<br /> Apply these 10 steps and they will make you rich. Steer clear of  people that suggest your financial dreams are born of greed. Avoid  get-rich-quick schemes, be ethical, never give up, and once you make it,  be willing to help others get there too.</div>
