We recall you were a regular guest to the offices of security agencies.</b></div> <div> <div id="stcpDiv"> Arrest was a regular thing. I can’t really tell. I became used to arrest. In fact, the police and SSS in Port Harcourt, maybe they advised the government, saying ‘pls, just leave this guy alone. This guy, arrest no dey do am anything’. (Laughing and speaking in pidgin English). ‘Just leave him alone. Go and look at my trial videos. There is trial like that where the judge was put in the dock. I was the one questioning the judge. It is not possible. So, the government and Obasanjo really, really, really did not understand the type of person he was dealing with. May be in Nigeria, there were no such people then. Today, we have Boko Haram. So, a new group of people has started.<br /> <b>Were you ever taken to any dungeon...?</b>(Cuts in) I was in SSS underground for 10 months and 11 days in solitary confinement.</div> </div> <div> <b>How did you cope?</b></div> <div> <div id="stcpDiv"> I would have run mad. Many people did. But because I had memorized parts of the Koran, instead of talking to myself, I just recited the Koran. That was what kept me alive. If I had not memorized the Koran, I would have been mad. Talking to yourself is a different thing. But this one, you are reading, edifying your soul.<br /> <br /> <b>So, while in prison, did you get to meet with any of the people now linked to Boko Haram?</b><br /> I met with so many people, not only Boko Haram militants. Yes, I met with a lot of them: Muda Shiru, Mohammed Isam, Yusuf Hussein, Asan Yusuf, Mohammed Bello.<br /> <br /> <b>Who were these people?</b><br /> They were leaders of the group that is now called Boko Haram. They were arrested and repatriated from Libya.<br /> <br /> <b>Do you know if they are still alive?</b><br /> Yeah. But some of them are no longer with them. Isam is no longer with them. I don’t have their contact. But I believe that the majority of those people may have been dead because we had very close relationship when we were in prison even though we didn’t see face to face. They were in their cells and I was in mine; so we hit the wall and talked. During prayers, we prayed together by shouting.<br /> <br /> <b>If that is the case, don’t you get to talk to them to broker ceasefire and all that or do we have new faces now?</b><br /> No, no, no. It depends on government approach. Someone in government thought it could be wished away, that it was easy. Boko Haram? ‘It will fizzle away’ and all the warning we gave them, they did not accept. They misled the government into believing that it could be wished it away. If they had taken a decisive action at that time, I don’t think that this would have reached the stage it has reached now.<br /> <br /> <b>But a decision was taken on their leader, Yusuf Mohammed?</b><br /> That was not the sort of decisive action. The killing of Yusuf Mohammed was a mistake. If Yusuf Mohammed were to die, he should have gone for trial. Nobody should use his whims and caprices as the law like what Saddam Hussein said “whatever I wrote with my hand, that is the law”. That was what Yar’Adua did. Why should you kill somebody extra-judicially? Take him to court if he had committed any offense. You have the laws. If they had followed due process, it would have mitigated what is happening. But they did not follow. They went outside the law. When you go outside the law, you are also telling the other person to also meet you outside the law.</div> <div id="stcpDiv">  <b><br /></b></div> <div id="stcpDiv"> </div> <div id="stcpDiv">  <b>The thinking in many quarters now is that these people are taking a revenge on the government while some people disagree, saying it is pure terrorism. You have also said they are acting on a wrong ideology. How do you reconcile all these?</b><br /> Yea, they are acting on a wrong ideology but even if it was a revenge, Islam does not permit you to take people who are not combatants. When you take the lives of people who are not combatants, then you are not longer fighting the cause of Allah because Allah SWA clearly said in the Koran that if you kill an innocent man, it seems you have killed the whole world.<br /> <br /> <b>Let’s go back to the struggle. Do you think it has paid off?</b><br /> Not 100 percent. Maybe 20 percent. We have somebody that looks like us, dresses like us, eats our food, dances the way we dance as President. It is a victory over those who feel that they were born to rule. Who says they are born to rule? It is a negation of that erroneous position.<br /> <b>But to everyone in Nigeria, the President is Nigeria’s President not an Ijaw President even though he is coming from that background.</b><br /> Yes, it is true. But he came from somewhere. He did not fall from the sky.<br /> <br /> <b>The President has been accused of not really been presidential in the real sense of the word. Again, you have very many challenges bedeviling the country which many Nigerians had expected him to deal with decisively.</b><br /> Yes, most of us feel that he has not done things the way they ought to be done. But there are individual differences. For instance, does Mr. President believe in things that the ordinary Ijaw man believes? The ordinary Ijaw man who was at the airport to bring the corpse of Isaac Boro; that the Ijaw nation must be liberated, must be independent? Do most of the elites share the same beliefs that we share? No.<br /> <br /> <b>You are quoted as saying that the abduction of the school girls in Chibok is a scam. Some people feel shocked by that statement coming from you even when we have seen the international community coming in…</b><br /> (Cuts in) which international community? The United States of America with her allies Britain and the European Union cajoled the whole world and told us that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. At the end of the day, were there weapons of mass destruction? There was none. So the international community for whatever intent and purpose that is compelling them to do what they are doing is best known to them. But it will not be far from economic interest. How can you believe that 270 girls will be taken? How? It is not possible. If you tell us that 20 girls were taken, 30, maybe 50, fine. How will you tell us that 270 girls were writing physics exam? How? In which school? Where? Even in the most educationally advanced part of this country, can you find any school where even 20 students are writing physics? I run a school. How many of my students are writing physics? They just finished their SSCE? And this is an elitist school, we make very good results. How many people are writing physics? Who are they telling? So, if you are not into education business, somebody can cajole you and tell you a lot of stories. When they took the students, the Principal, who said she thought they were soldiers, again said she was in Maiduguri for medical treatment when they came. Her daughter too was in the school. Why didn’t they take her daughter? Why did they take other peoples daughters? The military was aware four hours before the attack; the people who sent the information that Chibok was to be attacked four hours to the military, why did they not inform the chairman of Chibok, SSS Rep, DPO or anybody in Chibok? The Chibok community leader who has been talking, why didn’t they say, ‘Please, move the girls, we are suspecting that there was going to be an attack on the school? Move these children out of the school’. Why was it only the military they told? They couldn’t reach any other person but the military? What are they telling us now? Ok, today, one of the girls said she ran and jumped over the fence. She climbed the tree and then the man was saying come down, come down o’. What sort of thing is this now? So, the girl can climb a tree faster than a man with a gun? Why didn’t you just simply shoot her and he left her and went away? And some four persons were found in their house and they said they escaped and came back? What sort of stories?<br /> <br /> <b>How has it been in the last 50 years you have lived?</b></div> </div> Ah! My life at 50. My experience. How am I going to put it? Well, I got into the university at the age of 21 in 1985; the University of Calabar. And from that age of 21, death became my constant companion at every turn.</div>

A statement issued by General Bab-ngida’s Media Spokesman denied any links with Sani Haliru, the repented Boko Haram member.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">The statement raeds inter alia “We feel a deep sense of concern that the country is going through these obvious challenges of insecurity and bad leadership that are threatening the very fabric of the country’s foundation. We have read and assimilated the effusions of a deluded mind by name Sheik Sani Haliru, who for want of very cheap relevance decided to mention the highly respected name of IBB as one of the “sponsors” of what he called Boko Haram. From our first reading, we felt it would amount to giving undue relevance to a confused mind if we volunteer a response, but for our teeming supporters, associates and friends of IBB, and for the price we owe history, we decided to offer this disclaimer.</span></div> <div id="adsenseshow"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">First, General IBB cannot in his frame of mind remember any of such names called Sheik Sani Haliru whether as an Almajiri or a jihadist or both. Reading through the interview, one is easily confronted with a number of inconsistencies and well orchestrated conclusions that are spuriously out of place. One, Dele Giwa did not die of suicide bombing as claimed by Sani Haliru. It is public knowledge that he died of parcel bomb and the latest insight by Rev.Chris Omeben as published in Sunday Sun of 5th February, 2012 will form an instructive reading. </span><br /> <br /> <span style="color: black;">Secondly, we have every cause to believe that the interview was carefully scripted to convey the message intended and not one conducted under a question and answer basis.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">The responses of the said Sani Haliru attest to this fact. From that premise therefore, it will be save to conclude that the interview was structured by certain agents of government to satisfy pre-determined position. </span><br /> <br /> <span style="color: black;">Thirdly, the questions by the interviewer are also leading questions, tending to achieve the predetermined end of the initiators of the interview. The emphasis on seeing Islam as a religion of violence is a clear indication of this motive. </span><br /> <br /> <span style="color: black;">Fourthly, on the one hand, the interviewee declared himself to be a converted Christian, while on the other hand, he was asking for someone that will connect him to God. He talked about his fear of going to jail, why will a man of God be afraid of incarceration or jail if the cause he is pursuing is truly altruistic? How could someone with facts about Boko Haram be saying that he is afraid the SSS will arrest him if he ventured those facts, when the whole wide world is patiently waiting to get a road map out of the Boko Haram pogrom? There are also instances where third person narrative tenor is given to Sheik Sani Haliru, thus making the whole exercise curiously misleading and utterly unconscionable to warrant any serious recognition.</span></div> <div id="adsenseshow"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">In all of these, so many conjectures, hearsays, deductions, impressions and lies were bandied in the said interview thus making the entire contents suspect. For example, his reference to the October 1st bombing in Abuja is totally at variance with what the State Security Service has unravelled about the masterminds of that dastardly incident. We are therefore at sea to reconcile any of the claims as truly reflective of any sound mind save that we have every reason to believe that this is purely a well-scripted interview to give our revered IBB a bad name. What the real motive of the interview is remains to us very worrisome because we cannot in any way rationalize the immediate or remote intentions of the interviewee and the interviewer.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">For purposes of record, General IBB wishes to disclaim whoever that might have granted such interview and wish to emphatically state that there is no iota of truth in whatever the interviewee must have put down. There is no connection whatsoever between himself and the so-called Sheik Sani Haliru. It will serve good purpose if the said Sani Haliru could disclose his age in 1985, 1987 and 1992, because his claim of 44 years of Boko Haram activities could be self-contradicting if we are able to know his real age. 1985 till date is a record 27 years.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">By the time we subtract that age from 44 , the guess is as good as mine. One couldn’t possibly know what feat a 17 years old boy would perform in 1985 to warrant any linkage with IBB. It will also be of good use if he could disclose the instances where IBB is directly and indirectly connected or linked to his activities, how much money he was given, who gave the money and what period of time?</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">The uncomplimentary adjectives he used to describe General IBB further expose the underpinning lies in the interview. Every Nigerian that has had opportunity of interacting with this great Nigerian called IBB from North to South, East to West, would concede to the bare-faced fact that General IBB is generally a likeable person, generous, kind and very hearty personality whose contributions to national development and unity of Nigeria remain unparalleled in the history of Nigeria. For such a leader who has put his all in the development and unity of the country to now get involved in such heinous activities as described by the so-called Sani Haliru stands logic on its head.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">All the insinuations as to the deliberate effort of IBB trying to Islamise Nigeria are clear indications that Sani Haliru is suffering from self-delusion. Perhaps, he did not realize the fact that IBB’s Vice-Presidents and some of his key players in his cabinet were Christians. He also might have forgotten that it was in the same regime that our broken diplomatic ties with Israel were restored to allow Nigerians embark on Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem. If we are to follow all the writings in the Bible, and interpret them likewise, one will be tempted to say that the Bible is preaching violence too. But the word of God cannot be interpreted on its face value; hence men should be wary about drawing conclusions that are informed by their limited understanding of the word of God.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">We therefore wish to inform the public to disregard and ignore whoever might be the face behind that name called Sheik Sani Haliru and the message of doom that he seems desperate to propagate. We wish to assure our teeming members’ world-wide that as elder statesman, General IBB will not desist from offering his plausible contributions to national discourse and that no amount of blackmail can take that leadership away from this great icon. The unity and peaceful co-existence of Nigeria is very dear to General IBB and having fought in the 30months civil war of the late sixties, he would do everything humanly possible to avert any descent to anarchy in our fatherland.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black;">We challenge both the interviewee and interviewer to disclose the documents they claim to have to prove us wrong, otherwise, they should keep their mouths shut forever.”</span></div> </div>

I am Kudirat Odukanmi Oduola popularly known as Iyabo Oko, Apoti Aje and Sisi Mama. I started acting in 1973 through Chief Eda Onile Ola's caucus. I joined the industry simply because I had so much interest in it and I really appreciate God for all I have made in the profession. From the beginning, it was really challenging but along the line, things began to move smoothly for me. Acting was not something your parents will allow you to do then, but in my own case, I proved stubborn and I thank God I did not encounter any obstacles.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How old were you in 1973 when you joined?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I was so young in 1973. I was learning the vocation and I finally joined the league in 1974. Though I can't recollect the actual age I was, I remember that there was nothing on my chest to identify that I was a mature girl. I dropped out of school to venture into it.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How about your educational background?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Glory be to God Almighty for the little one I was able to acquire. I am a school cert. holder but it was by force. I went into acting immediately after I started my secondary school. My father wanted me in school by all means but I turned him down with just a school cert which was then like National Diploma. I started schooling from Oke-Ola Primary School, Iwo Osun State before I joined St. Andrews Recondary School, Port Harcourt.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">What prompted your schooling in Port Harcourt?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My father was a soldier and after I completed my primary education, I was taken to him in Port Harcourt. I couldn't tell him that I wanted to go into acting because all his intention was for me to acquire all the degrees we have. So, I didn't inform him before I ran out of the house.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When you ran away from the house, where did you go?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I ran away to follow theatre practitioners for many years. In fact, I completed my secondary school as an actress then. I didn't return home again. My dad came to take me away from Baba Eda's house twice and I insisted that I wanted to act. He kept me in his care and I was going to school from there. I just started schooling in Port Harcourt before I saw them doing a stage play and I stopped my school to follow them, but when my father was disturbing himself over my career, I was asked to complete my secondary school which I did.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How did he feel by the time you became famous?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Unfortunately, he died before then. Only my mother witnessed my success in the acting industry and I really get pained each time I remember this.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How did you become popular in the industry?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I will attribute that to Veteran actor, Adebayo Salami a.k.a Oga Bello because he made me to become a star despite the uncountable movies I had featured in. But Oga Bello invited me to join his group because of the talent he saw in me and I joined him in Lagos. My first appearance movie that got me the fame was Oko (Stone) which many call me with and I always appreciate him for that because he made me not to regret my journey into acting.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">What influenced your ways of acting?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There's nothing special about my acting prowess. It is what I am used to with when I started. If you watch the boss who taught me this job very well, you will agree with me that there's no role he can't play and he has imbibed that in us. If you want to be sucessful in this profession, you don't need to stick to one role at all times. Since you are gifted, producers will always opt for you because you are capable of giving them what they want and after that, many will start noticing your different talents.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How about your b*ttocks?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It is a God-given material from above. It's not something you can cover with wrapper and if you do, it will sure show up. I am not the first person to have such huge b*ttocks in the industry but God purposely made mine and that's why many keep eyeing it. They are eyeing it and it brings money for me and I pray that it should not perish. I really love the shape becuase many thought as old as I am, the stuff should go out of shape, but God made it the way it is. If I shake it to right or left, it goes to the direction I direct it to. What I mean is that many producers will tell me that they want me to catwalk and shake the b*ttocks,and I will bill them for this and I get paid.
