The political landscape is changing drastically and President Goodluck 
Jonathan is not ready to join in the acts of imposing candidates for 
elective offices. But this is pitching him against some governors.<br /><br />Strong
 indications have emerged that governors elected on the platform of the 
some PDP are poised for some sort of showdown with the party's national 
chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and Senate President David Mark over the collapse
 of an alleged deal President Goodluck Jonathan sealed with them.<br /><br />To
 express their grievances, the governors are expected to meet with 
President Jonathan on Tuesday night for the purpose of extracting “some 
commitment from him” before his ratification during the December 10 
national convention of the party.<br /><br />In fact, the situation is so bad that some of the governors are threatening to dump PDP.<br /><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6589160015449763735" name="more"></a>As
 this emerged, LEADERSHIP gathered that a frustrated governor in one of 
the South East states has already concluded plans to defect to the 
leading opposition party, All Progressives Party (APC).<br /><br />The 
particular governor’s grouse is that he has been stopped from presenting
 his preferred anointed successor for next year’s governorship election 
in the state. His albatross are a former governor of the state and a 
high-ranking member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).<br /><br />As 
part of the alleged deal between the governors and President Jonathan, 
they (governors) were to present their preferred candidates as 
successors, just as those with senatorial ambitions were to be allowed 
to aspire. About eight PDP governors serving their final terms are 
reportedly eyeing the senate.<br /><br />But since the deal was struck a 
month ago, there have been several dissenting voices, even as some 
incumbent senators have drawn the battle line with their governors who 
want to take their seats.<br /><br />The highpoint of the high-wire 
political intrigues was Friday’s curious withdrawal from the senatorial 
race by Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan and Sullivan Chime of Delta and 
Enugu states respectively.<br /><br />A governor from one of the northern 
states confided in a team of newsmen that his southeast colleague “is 
already on his way to the opposition” as a result of the shabby 
treatment meted to them.<br /><br />The governor said: “The PDP we used to 
know is not the one we are seeing now. The party is rotten, and this is 
very shameful and unfortunate. Some of us feel like crying for the party
 we once cherished as the biggest party in Africa.<br /><br />“It is most 
ridiculous for the President to reach an agreement with us and renege or
 rather not to know what is happening, when governors are being pushed 
here and there by forces who are merely interested in their personal 
benefits.<br /><br />“But I can assure you that we have decided to unravel 
what is really the issue, because we suspect foul play in all that is 
going on within the party. Imagine forcing sitting governors to withdraw
 from the race simply because someone somewhere is threatened by the 
presence of former governors who are desirous of being senators.<br /><br />“Right
 now, one of us, a southeast governor, is already on his way to the 
opposition party. How are we sure even those who will not leave will not
 work from within to undermine the party."<div>

For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political 
stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved 
that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright
 falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major 
newspaper concerning my successor and me.<br />

There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fueling 
unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an 
otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship. My relationship
 with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at
 the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of 
political stability, growth and development.<br />
<br />
Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn’t the issue
 here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit 
of democracy to which we both subscribe.  We often debate, agree or  
disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos 
State, we are on the same page. </div>

The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown.</div>

What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to 
participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition 
should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is 
being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every political 
process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-house and not on the 
pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos.<br />
<br />
We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving 
stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its leadership. The media 
must be weary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a 
narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform
 for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can 
help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs.<br />
<br />
While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of every media 
house to publish any story, it is important not to be part of the 
feeding frenzy and not to mislead the unsuspecting public.<br />
<br />
At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to 
seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground 
where disagreements exist. That is what I have dedicated myself to in 
the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what 
Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos 
state deserves as Nigeria’s pacesetter in terms of democracy and 
development.<br />

 got the backing of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and emerged governor of Lagos 
State in 2007. Today, he is one of the best performers. But how easy

Also, according to a report in Punch, the APC national leader is angry 
with Governor Fashola, as a result of his conduct before and during the 
just concluded APC governorship primary in Lagos State.<br />

A source close to Tinubu said he was not only angry with Fashola, but 
was 'disappointed in him'. He even said anger was a mild word to use in

All Tinubu wanted was to know Fashola's mind, with regards to a suitable
 governorship candidate for APC but “Fashola kept Tinubu guessing. He 
told him he did not have a candidate. Though there were signs and media 
reports that he was backing someone, but Tinubu could not be relying on 
media reports about the governor in a situation like this.<br />
<br />
“In fact, Asiwaju told him that he had a candidate and sought the 
governor’s support for him. The governor said he had no candidate only 
for him to emerge with a candidate in the last minute. Asiwaju did not 
know where the governor stood. <span style="color: #cc0000;">I believe with the outcome of the primary, the governor will have enough time to reflect</span>,” said an insider.<br />

It was learnt that Tinubu became angry when Fashola, who had initially 
told him that he did not have any particular candidate for the APC 
primary, later emerge with former Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr. 
Olasupo Shahore, as his preferred candidate.<br />

Akinwunmi Ambode, who defeated 12 other aspirants, had remained in 
public discourse as Tinubu’s favourite. And he defeated others squarely 
in the primary election, he polled 3,735 votes.<br />

While Tinubu is yet to react over Fashola's alleged betrayal, some of 
the defeated guber aspirants are said to be seriously working on how to 
get themselves back into Tinubu’s good books.</div>

Mrs. Juliana Godwin, a 42-year-old Junior Secondary School I (JSSI) 
student of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja, has become one of those
 persons with strong will to change her condition.<br /><br />Mrs. Godwin, 
who hails from Riyom in Riyom LGA of Plateau State, had her education 
stalled by lack of sponsorship, a situation that made her to drop out, 
in 1983, of LEA Primary School, Riyom.<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">
"I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor
 my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was 
with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn  dress making. I
 completed it within a year and  six months."</blockquote>

She told Vanguard that in 2001, she and her children left Jos to join 
her husband in Abuja, where they live at Gosa village, along Airport 
Road.<br /><br />An industrious woman, Godwin became the bread-winner of her
 family. Since had skill in hair plaiting, that became a source of 
livelihood for her and the family. Later she ventured into hawking of 
water in a basin in Gosa market to boost the family’s income.<br /><br />“In
 2003, I was able to save some money from water hawking. I started 
pepper and tomato business with N1,000 from the savings. I also went 
into corn roasting business, but my husband stopped me from the business
 in 2007,” she said.<br /><br />In 2008, Godwin decided to go into 
vocational training with a non-governmental organisation called 
Refocusing Nigerian Talents Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained 
in soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade and disinfectants 
production.<br /><br />“Now I can produce and sell the products I was trained on, and I started with N1,500”, Mrs. Godwin narrated.<br /><br />“I
 came to realise that the business was lucrative and helpful to me and 
my family. I decided to make savings towards going back to school after I

Discomforting news for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election broke 
out from Olusegun Obasanjo’s Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta on Friday 
evening, indicating that the outcome of the PDP governors who had gone 
there to plead for the President’s support was initially played down.<br />

We can authoritatively disclose today that Obasanjo flatly refused to 
support Jonathan although Obasanjo had publicly said that he only 
explained to the governors his position on national issues.<br />

We gathered that he maintained his stand against Jonathan’s style of 
administration which he said did not in any way deserve his 
endorsement...<br />

This was even as Jonathan and the son of the late former Head of State, 
Mohammed Abacha met behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa 
yesterday, apparently to strategise on how to secure victory for him and
 the party in Kano and other adjourning States.<br />

The PDP is presenting the junior Abacha, who was freed from corruption 
and theft charges by the Federal Government last June, as its 
governorship candidate for Kano, based on his assumed influence and 
popularity to dislodge the APC candidate backed by Governor Rabiu Musa 
Kwankwaso.<br />

However, the five governors; Mallam Isa Yuguda of Bauchi, Babangida 
Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and 
Godswill Akpabio- (Akwa Ibom) had approached Obasanjo on behalf of 
Jonathan and the PDP and pleading with him to not only tone down his 
verbal attacks on the president and his administration but back him in 
the forthcoming election.<br />
<br />
The governors, who spent at least three hours discussing with Obasanjo, 
however were said to have left his mansion without any strong promise 
from the former president, who sounded rather defiant, claiming that it 
was clear to all Nigerians that Nigerian under Jonathan was in a bad 
shape.<br />
<br />
Obasanjo was, however, said to have given his visitors some words of 
consolation, saying, ‘the situation in Nigeria today is bad but is not 
beyond redemption’. “That means that something can still be done to 
change it, if there is courage and determination to do so.”<br />
<br />
A source close to the Abeokuta meeting told Vanguard that Obasanjo 
received the five governors due to his respect for them as individuals 
and politicians who rode to national limelight through his 
instrumentality and not because of Jonathan or PDP.<br />

The source, who is close to Obasanjo said: “But the truth of the matter 
is that ‘Baba’ did not give them any promise of word of comfort 
throughout their stay in Abeokuta because he is very upset with most of 
them, who have betrayed him in many ways since he helped them to clinch

“He told them the truth as it is that Jonathan’s leadership had really 
hurt the image of Nigeria at home and abroad and that they themselves 
should help him to change course so as to help Nigeria and Nigerians out
 the doldrums...<br />
<br />
“Let me tell you the truth; Baba stands on his position concerning 
Jonathan and his administration and he is not ready to change whatever 
he had said or written no matter who comes to him or not.<br />
<br />
“I can tell you that if the mission of the five governors was 
successful, one of them, who likes to talk at every event, would have 
been the first to speak. What happened was more of a mission not 
accomplished to say the truth,” the source said.</div>
