 how Governor Fashola became Gov. and transformed Lagos and also how he 
effectively managed the Ebola epidermic in the state.<br /><br />He famously
 claims to be "just doing his job". But in a land where politicians are 
known for doing anything but, that alone has been enough to make 
Babatunde Fashola, boss of the vast Nigerian city of Lagos, a very 
popular man.<br /><br />Confounding the image of Nigerian leaders as corrupt
 and incompetent, the 51-year-old governor has won near-celebrity status
 for transforming west Africa's biggest city, cleaing up its 
crime-ridden slums and declaring war on corrupt police and civil 
servants.<br /><br />Next month, he will come to London to meet business 
leaders and Mayor Boris Johnson's officials, wooing investors with talk 
of how he has spent the last seven years building new transport hubs and
 gleaming business parks.<br />Yet arguably his biggest achievement in 
office took place just last week, and was done without a bulldozer in 
sight. That was when his country was officially declared free of Ebola, 
which first spread to Nigeria three months ago when Patrick Sawyer, an 
infected Liberian diplomat, flew into Lagos airport.<br />Health officials
 had long feared that the outbreak, which has already claimed nearly 
5,000 lives elsewhere in west Africa, would reach catastrophic 
proportions were it to spread through Lagos. One of the largest cities 
in the world, it is home to an estimated 17 million people, many of them
 living in sprawling shanty towns that would have become vast reservoirs
 for infection. To make matters worse, when the outbreak first happened,
 medics were on strike.<br /><br />Instead, Mr Fashola turned a looming 
disaster into a public health and PR triumph. Breaking off from a trip 
overseas, he took personal charge of the operation to track down and 
quarantine nearly 1,000 people feared to have been infected since Mr 
Sawyer's arrival.<br /><br />Last week, what would have been a formidably 
complex operation in any country came to a successful end, when the 
World Health Organisation announced that since Nigeria had had no new 
cases for six weeks, it was now officially rid of the virus.<br /><br />"This
 is a spectacular success story," said Rui Gama Vaz, a WHO spokesman, 
who prompted an applause when he broke the news at a press conference in
 Nigeria on Tuesday. "It shows that Ebola can be contained.<br /><br />The 
WHO announcement was a rare glimmer of hope in the fight against Ebola, 
and even rarer vote of confidence in a branch of the Nigerian 
government, which was heavily criticised over its response to the 
abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls by the Boko Haram insurgent group
 in April. As a columninst in Nigeria's Leadership newspaper put it last
 week: "For once, we did not underachieve."<br />For Mr Fashola's many 
supporters, it is also yet more proof that the 51-year-old ex-lawyer is a
 future president in the making, a much-needed technocrat in a country 
dominated far too long by ageing "Big Men" and ex-generals.<br /><br />"He 
is the best governor we have ever had," said Odun Babalola, a 
Lagos-based pension fund portfolio manager. "He's made a lot of progress
 in schools, railways, and infrastructure, and unlike a lot of 
politicians, who are corrupt, he's a good administrator."<br /><br />True, 
the successful tackling of the Ebola outbreak was not Mr Fashola's doing
 alone. For a start, the doctor's strike that was under way when Mr 
Sawyer collapsed at Lagos airport turned out to be a blessing in 
disguise. Rather than being taken to one of Lagos's vast public 
hospitals, where he might have languished for hours and infected 
numerous fellow patients and staff, he was instead admitted to a private
 clinic. There he was seen by a sharp-eyed consultant, Stella Adadevoh, 
who spotted that his symptoms were not malaria as had been first 
thought.<br /><br />She then alerted the Nigerian health ministry, and along
 with other doctors physically restrained Sawyer when he became 
aggressive and tried to leave the hospital to fly to another Nigerian 
city. Her quick thinking help stop the virus being spread more widely, 
but also cost her her life: she caught Ebola herself while treating Mr 
Sawyer, and has now been recommended for a national award.<br /><br />But 
even by the time Mr Sawyer had been isolated, the virus was already on 
the loose. Knowing that he had passed through one of the busiest 
airports in west Africa, health officials had to try to track down every
 single person who had potentially been infected by him, including the 
other passengers on his flight. The list started at 281 people and grew 
to nearly 1,000. as eight others whom he turned out to have passed the 
virus to subsequently died.<br /><br />That was where Mr Fashola stepped in.
 He broke off from a pilgrimage to Mecca, flew home and then helped set 
up an Ebola Emergency Operations Centre, which spearheaded the mammoth 
task of monitoring all those potentially infected. A team of 2,000 
officials were trained for the task, who ended up knocking on 26,000 
doors. At one point the governor was being briefed up to ten times a day
 by disease control experts. He made a point of visiting the country's 
Ebola treatment centre, a way of communicating to the Nigerian public 
that they should not panic needlessly.<br /><br />"Command and control is 
very important in fighting disease outbreaks, and he provided effective 
leadership," said Dr Ike Anya, a London-based Nigerian public health 
expert. "He also said exactly the right things, urging for the need to 
keep calm. Regardless of whether you support his politics, he has been 
very effective as a governor and I would be happy to see him stand for 
leadership."<br /><br />Born into a prominent Muslim family but married to a
 Christian, Mr Fashola trained as a lawyer and went into politics after 
being appointed chief of staff by the previous Lagos governor, Asiwaju 
Tinubu, a powerful politician often described as Mr Fashola's 
"Godfather". But while he has long enjoyed the backing of a political 
"Big Man", is his role as a rare defender of Nigeria's "Little Men" that
 has won him most support.<br /><br />Once, while driving through Lagos in 
his convoy, he famously stopped an army colonel who was driving 
illegally in one of the governor's newly-built bus lanes, berating him 
in front of television cameras.<br /><br />"The bus is for those who cannot 
afford to buy cars," he said. "I want a zero tolerance of lawlesness, 
and those who don't want to comply can leave our state."<br /><br />It was 
one of the first times Nigerians had ever seen a civil servant 
confronting a member of the security forces, whose fondness for 
committing crime rather than fighting it has long contributed to Lagos's
 legendary reputation for lawlessness.<br /><br />Armed robberies - 
sometimes by moonlighting police - used to be so common that few people 
ventured out after dark. Foreign businessmen would routinely travel with
 armed escorts, and the few willing to live there would stay mainly in a
 heavily-guarded diplomatic area called Victoria Island, a rough 
equivalent to Baghdad's Green Zone. Add to that the suffocating smog, 
widespread squalor and regular three-hour traffic jams, and it was no 
suprise that the city had a reputation as one of the worst places in the
 world to live.<br /><br />Today, much of the problems remain. But members 
of the vast Nigerian diaspora say they now notice big changes whenever 
they go back. "When you return you see an absolute difference - things 
have improved 100 per cent," said Nels Abbey, a London-based Nigerian 
journalist and businessman. "Traffic is not what it used to be, bus 
lanes have been introduced, and it feels a lot safer. Fashola has been 
like a Tory mayor for Lagos - he is trying to make it attractive to the 
well-off."<br /><br />Styling himself as Lagos's answer to Boris Johnson has
 not endeared him to everyone. As well as laying plans for a vast 
offshore business park intended as an "African Dubai", he has 
accelerated programs to clear the ever-expanding shanty towns, ordering 
their occupants to return to their homes in Nigeria's poorest east and 
north. That has led to criticism from human rights groups, although 
others say it is hard to see how Lagos will ever improve otherwise. "Do I
 endorse it?" said Mr Nels. "I am afraid it is a bit of a necessary 
evil."<br /><br />Another big achievement has been increasing tax revenues, 
vital in a city where the GDP of $43 billion makes it the fifth-biggest 
economy in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Fashola has tried to sweeten the pill 
by putting up signs on all new infrasructure projects, saying "paid for 
by your taxes". It is a rare acknowledgement of gratitude in a country 
where a guaranteed stream of state oil wealth has historically allowed 
rulers to remain aloof from the ruled.<br /><br />However, despite being 
relected with 80 per cent of the vote in 2011, the main hailed as 
Nigeria's brightest political hope in years is far from guaranteed a 
life in office. Having served two terms in office already, he is not 
allowed to run as Lagos governor again. And as a member of a minority 
tribe and the country's opposition All Progressives Congress, he 
currently lacks the political backing to go head to head against 
Goodluck Jonathan in next year's elections.<br /><br />In the meantime, 
fresh from ridding Lagos of Ebola, he is focusing on an arguably even 
tougher challenge, launching a new initiative to stop motorists stuck in
 traffic jams from blasting their horns all day. As he put it: "If we 
can overcome Ebola, then we can overcome noise pollution."</span></span> </div>

another shot, after concluding her divorce with her Iceland-based

team). Not one female nurse volunteered (lol). We ALL had to demonstrate
 proper use of PPE equipment and be proficient with the Ebola protocol. I
 was full of thoughts as I watched the display, hoods, masks, gowns, 
boots....almost like a nightmare. Home news had it that Nigerians washed
 their hands, didn't hug as much, monitored their temps and on the first
 signs of malaise drank the ORT (oral rehydration therapy) until 
symptoms passed. Were we once again trying to kill mosquitoes with 
bazookas? I wasn't going to wait to find out. In a daze I got with the 
program to become "an Ebola ready Nurse". More power to all the nurses

 on Thursday prescribed a penalty of seven years imprisonment for cyber 
crimes and online fraud perpetrators in Nigeria. The decision of the 
Senate on cyber crimes bill, sponsored by Senator Adegbenga Kaka, was 
sequel to the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and 
Human Rights.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">     The 
bill, tagged: “A Bill for an Act to Provide for the Prohibition, 
Prevention, Detection, Response, Investigation and Prosecution of 
Cybercrimes and for Other Related Matters 2014”, among other objectives,
 seeks to punish the interception of data, system interference and 
misuse of devices.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">      It 
backs punishment of all kinds of computer-related fraud, 
computer-related forgery, offences relating to pornography, 
cyber-stalking and cyber-squatting, just as it seeks to promote cyber 
security, protection of computer systems and networks, electronic 
communications, data and computer programmes, intellectual property and 
privacy rights.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">      The 
bill also states that anyone who commits fraud using a computer system 
or network with the intention of obtaining computer data, securing 
access to any programme, commercial or industrial secrets or classified 
information will upon conviction be sentenced to seven years jail term 
or a fine of N7 million or both.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">    
 Furthermore, anyone found guilty of possessing a manipulative device, 
unauthorised automatic teller machine card, damaging a computer with the
 intention to defraud, trafficking in any password to defraud customers 
or financial institutions will be sentenced to seven years imprisonment 
or a N7 million fine.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">      
Similarly, any person or organisation who intentionally traffics in any 
password or similar information through a computer unlawfully with the 
intention to defraud public and private interests within or outside 
Nigeria will be liable upon conviction to a fine of N7 million or three 
years imprisonment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">     The 
bill spells out a three-year jail term or N2 million fine for anyone who
 knows that a crime has been committed in his premises or cybercafe and 
fails to report to relevant authorities within seven days.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">    While it
 provides for compulsory registration of all cybercafes as business 
concerns with Computer Professionals’ Registration Council in addition 
to business name registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission, it 
also spells out three years jail term or a fine of N1 million for anyone
 who perpetrates electronic fraud through a cybercafe.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">   In the 
situation where the fraud is found to have been perpetrated in 
connivance with the owner(s) of the cybercafe, such owners shall be 
liable to a fine of N2 million or three years jail term.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">     A 
stiffer punishment of 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine 
awaits anyone who commits any offences in relation to critical national 
information infrastructure and 15 years imprisonment for any person who 
commits such a crime resulting in bodily harm and life imprisonment for 
such crime if it results in death of another person.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">     In his 
remarks after the passage of the bill, the Deputy Senate President, Ike 
Ekweremadu, who presided, explained that enacting anti-cyber crime law 
became important because there was no computer at the time penal and 
criminal code came into force.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He said:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>

passage of this bill today and appropriate application of its prescribed
 laws against cyber crimes and other related matters, Nigeria will 
henceforth be seen as a country seriously stamping out cyber crimes, 
which to us here at the Senate and by extension, the National Assembly, 
is a major milestone in our lawmaking enterprise.</span><br />

 political interest group, the Turaki Vanguard, has asked former Head of
 State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to withdraw from the 2015 
presidential race.<br /><br />The group, made up of loyalists of  the former
 Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, said in a statement on Thursday that 
Buhari, having contested three times and lost, cannot add anything new 
to  the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s 
presidential election.<br /><br />“We are making this call on the former 
head of state with all sense of responsibility having in mind that 
Buhari will neither enrich the race nor enhance the political fortunes 
of the opposition APC which Nigerians hope will salvage their country 
from the 15 years of death grip and mis-governance of the PDP,” the 
group said.<br /><br />Both Buhari and Atiku are among the frontrunners seeking the APC’s ticket for the presidential election.<br /><br />The
 group’s call came on the heels of a similar admonition by a popular 
Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmed Gumi, who advised Buhari, against running 
for the president for the fourth time.<br /><br />In a statement issued by 
its National President, Oladimeji Fabiyi, the Turaki Vanguard said: “We,
 the members of the Turaki Vanguard, a political pressure group 
operating independently of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, 
having carefully monitored and observed recent pro-Buhari activities 
sponsored by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby call on 
him to quit the presidential race.”<br /><br />However, what came as a 
surprise is the group’s  allegation  that the ruling PDP, might have 
been pushing for the Buhari candidacy, because they are sure of 
defeating him and would be comfortable with his candidacy.<br /><br />“In 
making this call, we are mindful of the need for all patriotic Nigerians
 to help prevent another political ridicule of a former Nigerian leader 
like Buhari, which would be unavoidable if he continues with his 2015 
aspiration.<br /><br />“We hope the elderly and revered General will heed 
our advice and those of other respectable Nigerians like Sheikh Ahmad 
Gumi,” it added.</span></span><br />

searched his house and discovered the severed organ in a bin after it

 initially unable to re-attach his p*nis but he was then transferred to

Babatunde Omidina, otherwise known as Baba Suwe, has carved out his own 
niche in the Yoruba movie industry. The veteran actor here speaks on the
 aftermath of his ordeal at the hands of the National Drug Law 
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), issues around the Association of Nigeria 
Theatre Act Practitioners (ANTP), the death of his lawyer, Bamidele 
Aturu, among other things. Excerpts: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">You have been in the movie industry for decades. Would you say it has been fulfilling?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I would be 
an ingrate to God if I said I am not fulfilled on the job. It has been a
 worthwhile experience and I appreciate God for that. There have been 
lots of opened doors through it and in fact, my first trip abroad was 
through theatre.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">People used 
to invite me to perform abroad, but I often declined. Then one day, some
 people brought a letter to my office from Afro-Hollywood, but I told 
them I wasn’t interested. There was no mobile phone then, so, they later
 called my land line and my wife was the one who answered. They told her
 I did not respond to their offer and when she told me about the call, I
 told her I wasn’t interested, but she persuaded me to go and see them 
and I did. I went to their office at Marina for audition and I was 
picked. Then, I travelled abroad.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Many are of the opinion that your style of comedy is not relevant anymore. What is your reaction to that?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I believe 
that the industry is big enough for everyone to showcase their skills. I
 met some people in the industry as well. The likes of Aluwe, Papalolo, 
Jacob and Aderupoko were there before me. I made a name for myself while
 they also remained relevant. We all have different styles and can fit 
into different acts in the industry. I have been in this industry for 
close to 40 years and my fame has gone ahead of me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">What has kept you going in the 40 years you have been in the industry?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">For me, 
being in the industry is not just about acting. I made a very good 
profit from my first movie production. And with the profit, I bought a 
camera and started a business. Now, I have cameras, projectors, editing 
equipment and about 12 apprentices.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I had a big 
office then with a location bus and I ensured that I bought more 
equipment every trip I made abroad. I bought cameras, cassettes, 
microphones, speakers and other theatre equipment, started a rental 
business and that gave me more money. I make sure I bought a piece of 
land and a car after every movie I produced. When other people in the 
industry saw this, they too started acquiring properties. I really loved
 Michael Jackson and wanted to be like him. I wanted to achieve the way 
he did in showbiz, but I thank God for where I am.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The rate at which you feature in movies has dropped. Is it a decision you made or the tune of the demand now?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I did not 
stop acting and I believe there is time for everyone. There are more 
people in the industry now and we are all doing our parts, unlike those 
days when we were few. But in spite of everything, I remain in the 
industry.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">How did your ordeal with NDLEA begin?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">It is a long
 story. What they did tarnished my image. It really hurt me. Theatre is 
the only way I make money and when my films hit Idumota, it makes the 
most sales in the industry. I make money from my rental business and as a
 master of ceremony within and outside Nigeria. The incident affected 
all that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The trip I 
wanted to make when the incident happened was for a friend’s baby’s 
naming ceremony. I was asked to be the MC at the christening ceremony. I
 just got back from London about a month before then, from a movie 
production with Sanyeri. I was at the airport that day with my sibling 
and a friend. My friend even had with him, dundu (fried yam) and akara 
(bean cakes) which we ate at the airport. That was around 8.30 p.m.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I had got a 
camera from someone around 10.30 p.m. and was about to board when the 
incident began to unfold. I had walked past NDLEA officials when a lady 
among them called me, ‘Baba Suwe, go and see the person standing there.’
 I went to see the person she pointed at and was surprised when the 
person took me directly to their scanning machine. I was even more 
surprised when he told me I was positive. He said I was a drug pusher 
and I told him I was not. It all seemed like a setup to me. Before I 
realised what was going on, I was taken upstairs, to their boss’s office
 and the boss started throwing accusations at me. ‘Baba Suwe, you are a 
drug pusher. You deal in cocaine,’ he said and I immediately refuted the
 accusation.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">As if that 
was not strange enough, he ordered one of his boys to give me 24 lashes 
of the cane. I couldn’t believe my ears. I asked what that was for and 
the guy he ordered to cane me just looked at me, smiled and left.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">It was when 
he came back that I realised that the situation was serious. They sat me
 down for a thorough interrogation which lasted till the next day. In 
the morning, I pleaded with them to, at least, release the man who was 
arrested with me because he had to be at his child’s christening. They 
eventually released him that morning and then transferred me to their 
hospital where they flushed my system but did not find any drug in me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">At this 
point, their boss even pitied me. He told me he heard they did not find 
any drug in me and I answered in the affirmative. They took me back to 
the airport and I thought they were going to release me, but I was again
 taken to the general hospital, where they conducted series of tests on 
me but still couldn’t find anything. The only thing they did not do was 
to open me up and I would have been happier if they had done that 
because I am sure they still would not find any drug in me. At least, by
 then, it would be clear that there was nothing in me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">How were you treated while you were being held there?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">They 
maltreated me for the 19 days that I was there. I slept on metal chairs.
 I was taken to another hospital again and yet, nothing was found. At 
this stage, my son had got a lawyer for me. The lawyer, in confidence, 
asked me if I was dealing in drug for real so as to know how to run 
their case and I told him that I was doing no such thing. I told him I 
had travelled to many developed countries with sophisticated and 
automated airports and I had never had any case with them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I was 
eventually charged to court and it was then that it came to light that 
they had gone to court behind my back even when I was in detention and 
had gotten judgment. I had no idea. It was the judge in this (new) court
 that blew things open and told them that he was giving them three days 
and if they did not find any drugs in my system, I would be discharged.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I was taken 
to another hospital in Victoria Island the next day where tests were 
conducted on me again and nothing was found in me. They scanned and 
flushed me and they almost killed me this time around, but still, 
nothing was found.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">We appeared 
in court the third day and the judge, having heard what happened, asked 
the NDLEA the result they got from the hospital, but there was nothing 
to show. The judge then asked me if I could identify the NDLEA official 
who took me to the hospital and I did. The official I identified, in his
 own defence, said it was an order from his superiors. Eventually, the 
judge ruled in my favour and charged NDLEA with defamation of character 
and ordered them to pay me N25 million as compensation and make a public
 apology in two national dailies to clear my name. But they are yet to 
do any of those things.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">What is the situation on the case now?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">That case is
 on as we speak. We don’t know how it will end. I am yet to get any 
compensation from NDLEA and they did not even apologise. Even if they 
did not pay me a dime but only apologised in the newspapers, I would be 
satisfied. I hate being implicated and that was exactly was happened.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I actually 
excreted more than 25 times the first day and nothing was found in my 
faeces. All the faeces were kept for record purpose.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I believe 
that someone was behind it all. I don’t know who or why he did it. It 
could be jealousy, but there is no smoke without fire.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Many believe that you used charm to hide the drug…</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I did not 
use any charm. If there was a charm for drug dealing, I believe the 
herbalists would be the ones doing drug business themselves. It is said 
that nobody could have cocaine in their system for more than two days 
and survive it. I was in detention for 19 days. I love being in company 
when travelling, so, would I be dealing in drugs and be travelling with 
people, different people for that matter? I did not use charm. I am not a
 cocaine pusher, so, I need no charm to cover anything up. God has 
blessed me in the movie industry and all the wealth and fame I got was 
from making movies.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Many people 
made money off the situation and I can see a calendar with a cartoon of 
you in NDLEA detention here in your office. Why did you keep it?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I keep this 
here as a remembrance for myself and for anyone that comes around to see
 it. Anytime I see it, I remember the ordeal I went through at the hands
 of NDLEA officials. They all wanted to make money, not minding whether 
what they were selling was true or not.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Do you have any plan to make a movie about the incident?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">As a matter of fact, I will still shoot a movie about the whole ordeal. I want to show Nigerians what actually happened.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">You recently lost your lawyer, Bamidele Aturu. What kind of person was he?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Aturu was 
very good to me and I pray his soul rests in peace. He was a good man. 
He was not particular about money. He was trustworthy and dedicated. He 
stood by me and I am forever grateful. He was God-sent and I am really 
pained by his death.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I’m sure you really miss your wife, Moladun. Where did the love story begin for both of you?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">May her soul
 rest in peace. I met her on the job. Although I didn’t really know her,
 the first day I saw her at a location, I really liked her, but she 
refused my advances. She thought I just wanted to play around and as God
 would have it, we met again and I persisted and when she realised I was
 serious, we got closer and that was it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">She was like
 my best friend. The best part was when we were on set together. I 
really miss her a lot. It was not a good experience at all. When she was
 alive, we were always together. There were days we would just be in the
 sitting room talking till I left in the afternoon for my office.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Are your children following in the footpath of your career?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I have two 
children in the industry. When I realised one of them wasn’t serious 
with his studies, I stopped him from acting. But the senior one, 
Adesola, has great love for this job and has plans to promote it and 
take it to a higher level. He has produced a movie but had to travel to 
America to further his studies.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Do you think the government is doing enough to support the movie industry?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I would say 
yes, to some extent. But the issue of piracy still needs to be look 
into. We need the support of the government on that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Many actors 
now are now delving into politics and given your close relationship with
 a couple of politicians, do you intend to do the same?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">No I don’t. I am not interested in politics and I have no intention of delving into it at all.</span><br />

 baby, who has since been named Ismail, was born in a church at the 
Oniyanrin area of Ibadan in September, the reports states. A renowned 
Islamic preacher who the newspaper spoke with said the woman who 
delivered the baby threw away the object she found in the baby's hand 
thinking it was something devilish, only for them to later find out it 
was a pocket-size Qur’an which contained all the 114 chapters in the 
holy book. It was wrapped in a thread. The preacher said although 
the Qur’an was small, the lettering inside was readable.</span><br />
