Adio allegedly met the victim on the ‘Net log’ dating site and pretended
 to be a 41-year-old American citizen, working as a chef in a Nigerian 
restaurant and needs a wife. <span style="line-height: 1.538em;">The profile attracted Jeanet and, in no time, began sending him money through Western Union and Money Gram.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
"She was sending me money monthly, ranging from $800 to $900 from 
June 2012, through Western Union Money transfer and Money Gram to the 
extent that Western Union blocked her from sending money to me in 
Nigeria.  So she requested that I should go to London to enable her send
 me money there. I contacted a friend of mine in London called Osas 
Odiah, so that he can receive the money and send to me here in Nigeria. 
She first sent €2000 to my friend’s account in London, and later to my 
Keystone bank account, which was actually a Forex Trade account. We 
started using this account when we discovered that my friend was not 
remitting all the money sent by Jeanet to me,” the suspect revealed.</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Investigations
 further revealed that the suspect collected the various sums under the 
pretext that he was going to use the money to perfect his travel plans 
and obtain the required documents that would enable him travel to 
Holland to join or visit Jeanet. But his inability or refusal to honour 
the invitation from Jeanet prompted the petition to EFCC.</blockquote>

The suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.<br />

 stakeholders have lauded the efforts of the government to postpone 
resumption of all private and public primary and secondary schools, 
Nigerian children cannot stay home forever for fear of the Ebola Virus 
Disease, EVD. Sooner or later, primary and public schools will have to 
resume whether or not the scourge ends. It is with this in mind that 
managers of schools have put in place measures to prevent further spread
 upon resumption.<br /><br />Recall that the EVD was brought into Nigeria 
last month with the arrival of the late American-Liberian, Patrick 
Sawyer, and it has killed over five people.<br /><br />While announcing the 
shift in the resumption of schools, the Minister of Education, Mallam 
Ibrahim Shekarau, charged all state Ministries of Education to 
immediately organise and ensure that, at least, two staff in all public 
and private schools are trained on how to handle any suspected case of 
Ebola and also embark on immediate sensitization of all teaching and 
non-teaching staff in all schools on preventive measures.<br /><br />Though 
efforts to know if officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Education 
have commenced the required training for teachers proved futile, 
Vanguard Learning gathered that at a meeting organised by the National 
Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, the state 
government, through the Special Adviser on Health to Governor Raji 
Fashola of Lagos State, Dr. Yewande Adesina, charged all schools to, 
among other things, encourage proper hand washing by installing 
functional taps by school gates for anyone coming into the schools to 
wash their hands and regularly check the temperature of all students.<br /><br />Giving
 tips on how to reduce the chances of contracting the virus, especially 
in schools, a senior nurse at a primary health center at Ketu, Lagos, 
who declined having her name in print, urged parents and school teachers
 to teach the students to properly wash their hands as often as 
possible, avoid putting their hands in their mouths and to as much as 
possible, avoid shaking or having body contact with people.<br /><br />“Since
 the virus grows on body openings like eyes and mouth among others, and 
is passed through body fluids, it is important for people, especially 
children and their teachers, to adopt the seven steps of hand washing 
and wash their hands regularly since the children are prone to putting 
their hands into their mouths or rubbing their eyes.<br /><br />“It is not 
just enough to wash your hands with soap but to learn the seven steps of
 hand washing which allow you to thoroughly scrub your hands. Hand 
sanitizers can come in handy, especially when one doesn’t have access to
 water. Though these are not the full solution but could go a long way 
in saving lives.”<br /><br />Though observers worry what will happen if, 
come 13 October and Nigeria isn’t free of the EVD, Vanguard Learning 
sought to know what measures managers of schools are putting in place to
 prevent further spread of the virus when schools eventually resume.<br /><br />The
 Proprietor, Caro-Favour Schools, Mr. Mark Okoh, said aside implementing
 recommendations from the meeting with Dr. Adesina, his school is 
organising staff seminars and parents’ forum so as to educate parents on
 what they need to do to complement the efforts of the school.<br />Listing
 steps taken by his school, the Registrar, Shalom Nursery & Primary 
School, Ipaja, Lagos, Mr. Adedayo Akinola, said: “the first step taken 
is to send teachers on training on how to prevent and manage the EVD 
situation. These teachers would, in turn, train other teachers on the 
prevention and management of the virus.<br /><br />“We have also sent out 
messages to the parents on the precautionary steps to take to ensure the
 safety of their children. But the most important step is that, upon 
resumption, everyone would have to wash their hands before entering the 
school, and there would be regular hand washing and use of hand 
sanitizers because it would be difficult controlling children from 
touching each other.”<br /><br />For the Proprietor, De Modernpace Schools, Mrs. Olayinka Elegbede, proper and regular hand washing habits would be enforced.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br />Her
 words: “though it is not easy stopping children from having hand and 
body contact, we intend to reduce that to the barest minimum by making 
sure that they stay in their classes most of the time, even during break
 time and also instill regular hand washing habits in them.”</span></span><br />

 Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday restrained twenty commercial 
banks in Nigeria from honouring any withdrawal cheque from Sani Dangote,
 younger brother of the richest black man, Aliko Dangote and his 
companies, Dansa Foods Limited and Bulk Pack Services Limited.<br />Court Freezes Dangote’s Accounts In 20 Banks<br />Mr. Sani Dangote<br /><br />The
 restraining order, according to the trial judge, Justice Okon Ab-ang, is
 to be in force until September 11, 2014 when all applications filed in a
 suit brought by Union Bank against Dangote and his companies .<br /><br />The
 judge also ordered all the banks involved to, within five days of the 
interim order, file affidavits declaring the defendants statement of 
accounts with them.<br /><br />Union Bank had taken Dangote and his 
companies to court over alleged refusal to liquidate about N5.2bn loan 
granted them since September, 2008.<br /><br />The bank, through its lawyer,
 Mr. Chukwudi Enebeli from the chambers of Mr. Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) had 
instituted suits seeking an order of mareva injunction to restrain all 
the defendants’ banks in Nigeria from allowing them withdraw funds from 
their accounts pending the determination of the suits.<br /><br />The banks 
named are  Access, CITI, Diamond, Ecobank, Enterprise, Fidelity, 
Keystone, Mainstreet, Skye, Wema, Heritage, Sterling, Unity and Zenith 
Banks.<br /><br />Others are  First Bank, First City Monument Bank, Guaranty
 Trust Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered Bank and United Bank for 
Africa.<br /><br />In the affidavits in support of its suits, Union Bank Plc
 urged the court to urgently grant the mareva order  because in a bid to
 evade payment of the loan, Dangote has been making frantic efforts to 
deplete the funds in the accounts of his companies, and that the bank’s 
investigations revealed that the defendants had started diverting the 
funds to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Canada and Switzerland.<br /><br />One
 Olufunmilola Ayoola, an official of the bank, who deposed to the bank’s
 affidavit,  alleged that the failure of the defendants to liquidate the
 monumental debt had negatively affected the Nigerian economy, a 
development which the bank claimed necessitated the suits.<br /><br />According
 to Ayoola, Union Bank Plc has been having difficulty in extending 
credit facilities to small scale businesses which in turn would have 
helped in boosting the nation’s economy and salvage the country from its
 present malaise of corruption and under development crisis.<br /><br />The 
bank stated that the funds which Dangote and his companies failed to 
pay, were capable of going a long way in impacting positively on the 
nation’s economy.<br /><br />When the matter came up for hearing on 
Thursday, the motion could not be heard as counsel for the defendants 
informed the court that they had filed objections challenging 
jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.<br /><br /> Out of all the 
banks, Diamond and Zenith appeared before the court on Thursday and 
explained that Dangote was equally indebted to them.<br /><br />Zenith Bank specifically said Dangote was indebted to the bank to the tune of seven million euros.<br /><br />In
 view of the defendants’ objections contesting jurisdiction, the judge 
said the matter would be adjourned  till September 11, 2014 to be able 
to take all the applications.</span></span></div>

 31 year old man named Wasiu Ogunnoiki was arraigned before a 
Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu yesterday September 2nd for allegedly 
posting negative remarks about the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun 
on his Facebook wall.<br />

Ogunnoiki is alleged to have posted a message on Facebook saying that 
the state Governor had demolished the houses of some citizens without 
compensating them accordingly, a statement the government say they find unacceptable, and could incite the citizens against the governor.

Ogunnoiki is also alleged to have published the photograph of the APC 
Chairman in Sagamu Local Government, Femi Felix Kafar on his Facebook 
wall, claiming that the man in partnership with members of the Labor 
party in the state, have concluded plans to sack governor Amosun from 
office before the 2015 general elections.<br />
<br />
When the two count charge was read out, Ogunnoiki  pleaded not guilty to
 the charges and the Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O. Ojo granted him bail in 
the sum of N400,000, with two sureties in like sum.<br />
<br />
The matter was adjourned till December 5th.

within their community. They say their sons have become so wayward that 
they beat up any police man who tries to intervene during any criminal
