More excerpts of the discussion are below: <a name='more'></a>POLI You talk about capacity; how many supporters does APGA have in Lagos? If democracy is about the electorate, APGA has what it takes to win elections in Lagos. The Igbo in Lagos today are more than 10 million, not to talk of other non-indigenes, who are not loyal to the APC. Although not every Igbo man will vote for APGA, but those who we know as our potential supporters and sympathisers are more than five million. If what is required to get to Alausa is about two million votes, which no one has surpassed, APGA will get it. Election is not about the elite; it’s about the ordinary people who will go out and cast their votes. <div id="article_end"> Do the victories of APGA in Anambra and Imo states automatically translate into victory for the party in Lagos? I’ve told you that the population of the Igbo in Lagos is more than the population of any state in the South-East because they are combined here. But this is not an Igbo agenda; I’m only saying it because every party has its sympathy base. The APC has Yoruba sympathy. However, a Yoruba man can also run on the platform of APGA. We also have the sympathy of those who believe that one man cannot control Lagos because it’s a cosmopolitan state. Do you really believe an Igbo man can become a governor in Lagos State? I believe it 100 per cent. I was born and raised in Lagos. If you are born and bred in a place and you see that the place is not well run, what do you do? You go for the government. That was why I ran in 2003. It was my candidacy that made them pick two Igbo people to be part of the government in Lagos – Ben Akabueze and Joe Igbokwe. It was just to deceive novices that Igbo people are in government. Except the Awori, nobody owns Lagos. Most of the people claiming Lagos came from nearby Yoruba states. </div>

Mikel Obi To Rescue Kidnapped Chibok Girls If He Knows Where They Are

Footballer Mikel Obi says his thoughts are with the families of abducted Chibok girls who have been held by Boko Haram for more than three months in the Sambisa Forest. According to Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi, he is praying for the release and safe return of the kidnapped girls. In May, the Chelsea star joined #BringBackOurGirls campaign by posting his picture where he carries a cardboard with the popular #BringBackOurGirls hash tag, but he spoke about the issue publicly for the first time on Monday, July 14. <a name='more'></a> "I wish I knew where those girls are, I would go there, pick them up and bring them back but it’s out of my hands," Mikel said, while responding to a question at a soiree by Amstel Malta in Lagos. In August 2011, Mikel’s dad was kidnapped in Jos but released after about 10 days in captivity. Thus, he hopes the same will happen to the girls of Chibok. "We will keep praying and keep hoping that [the girls] are all safe and they will return to their families," said the midfielder. The 27-year-old helped Nigeria reach the second round of the World Cup in Brazil before losing 2-0 to France. He was named man of the match in their first game against Iran but came under criticism after the final match against France where he struggled to impose himself on the encounter.

Truth is bitter. The piece I am set to write already gives me a foretaste of bitterness. A signal of the sure surge of fury, resentment and provocation its caption is likely to provoke in most readers, at least, at first sight. This seemingly pessimistic and, probably, outwardly ill-wishing title may even, compel some, in a rage of rashness, to cast me off as a Boko Haram apologist or even an outright Boko Haramite. Whatever name you call me, I patriotically acquiesce.

And, before I get crucified, let me quickly reiterate that my seeming hopelessness came from the n*ked dehumanisation of the masses I sighted as this overloaded six-passenger bus sn*ked its way through some city-based ‘villages’ on a domestic journey. Nothing in all I saw, left and right, suggested the presence of a government, monarchy or leadership of any sort that cared for the basic human needs that would ensure that natural humans get nurtured into social humans. 
 
The adage, man is a product of his environment, thus, asked me a painful rhetorical question: Can these hostile-living conditions produce socially-responsible masses filled with blood of love for fellow citizens of ‘strange’ origin, religion, education

Only on Monday, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly began impeachment proceedings against Governor Tanko Al-Makura. Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole has been in the line of fire because some APC House members have been bought over and the minority PDP members are said to be dangling the impeachment threat. Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi knows that some of the state’s lawmakers are ganging up against him. Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is also facing a benign threat of impeachment. These five governors have one thing in common: they are APC members. There are fears that Kano, another APC state, may also have its governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, dragged to the execution range soon. Anyone who doubts the motive behind the destabilisation plot should consider that the governors have six months to face the electorate again or about a year to leave office after <div data-cid="2378" data-kw="completing" style="border-bottom: 1px solid; color: #f35b00; cursor: pointer; display: inline-block; height: auto; padding-bottom: 1px; text-decoration: underline; width: auto;">completing</div>two terms. Which impeachment offences remained hidden for seven years but were discovered only towards the end of their tenure? And why is it that vestiges of trouble only begin to emerge in non-PDP states after their governors defect? Is it a coincidence that terrorists discover a state only when its governor leaves the PDP and joins the opposition party? And why is it that whenever a scandal is about to be unearthed – like the missing $20billion and the chartered jet saga – terrorist activities intensify to divert the people’s attention? It is about time these questions are answered. But those who seek to destroy Nigeria through non-tolerance of the opposition should read the handwriting on the wall of history. There is no doubt that a good number of the evil people that have held the nation hostage operate freely under the umbrella of the ruling party. It is the same kind of people that wrecked the First, Second and Third republics. And, after the first round of elections in the Fourth Republic, they all found shelter under one umbrella, because they couldn’t play or stand opposition politics. The Jonathan government is jittery because a mega party that could defeat the PDP in next year’s elections has been formed. Apparently unable to stop the wind of change and acting in desperation, the government has found a leeway by destroying everything and everyone associated with the APC. Left to the PDP government, there should be no elections in 2015. After eliminating all the APC governors and replacing them with PDP stooges, for instance, the coast would be clear for a repeat of the Ekiti “magic” in other states. Yet, there is nothing strange about what has happened in Adamawa, what is happening in Nasarawa and what could happen in Edo, Rivers, Imo and Kwara states. Party stalwarts are directed to dip their hands into nest-bags of money stolen from public funds; they gather members of a state assembly and haul scores of millions of naira on those willing to swear to an oath of trust. After Ghana-must-go bags have changed hands, it is time to gather impeachment offences. Can the lawmakers in Adamawa look the public straight in the eye and swear that the impeachment of Nyako was done in the best interest of the state; that it was an altruistic exercise? As the steamroller turns to Nasarawa, the lawmakers may find it convenient to argue that in a democracy the majority must have its way. But we know that their action is hardly in defence of democracy. Is there a relationship between the bond that the Nasarawa State governor has raised and the impeachment threat? At a time of serious national crisis brought on by the incompetence of the Jonathan-led government, politicians must stop playing with fire. They must stop playing with the future of the country. The madness must stop. From the missing Chibok girls to the general insecurity in the country and from the unaccounted for $20billion to the troves of unattended reports on stolen funds, there’s more than enough serious work to be done. It beggars belief that at a time when the government should double-down on retrieving the country from the jaws of terrorists and thieves, it is very busy plotting to silence the opposition. And we must say that we are worried by the deafening silence of elder statesmen, who only on July 8, 2014, met Jonathan on the state of the nation. Their continuous silence not only emboldens this government it gives the impression that the unfolding tragedy carries their stamp of approval. It was Adamawa yesterday, Nasarawa today, where next? If we are serious about keeping this country together – as we believe we should – then it’s time to pay more than lip service to the ties that bind us. We must stop the bull in the china shop now, or risk losing the shop, the wares and the bull as well. We advise the Presidency and the PDP against starting another fire. At the rate of N50 million per head, just $1 billion of the missing $20-127 billion buys 2000! Of course some more stubborn lawmakers will be bought for larger sums, N100 million plus. That considered, 1-2 billion of the missing billions, or the amount Diezani still makes per year – as tolerated and permitted by our senators – from the kerosene subsidy scam, can buy over 1000 law makers and ‘opponents’ in different states. 
 
Those mentioned above, being bought for these delicious sums of stolen money, are the ‘fine girls.’ These are their bride prices. Notice the numbers quoted – 1000-2000 to be bought for sure. But who are the ‘ugly girls?’ You guessed right: me and you. Who will pay our bride price? Will we be offered $380,000 too? Of course not, the most they will use to try to get our hand in marriage will be a 10kg bag of branded rice. Intelligent and progressive people in Ekiti wouldn’t be bothered to waste their vote and thus with the billions to spare, the accused, indicted thief won. This is the risk Nigeria faces. To rescue and restore hope to Nigerian(s), we need a bigger commitment. 
 
So wetin we go do? Ugly girls, are we going to unite and harvest the collective wealth of our numbers? Over 168 million of us, versus the 2-3,000 max, total number of fine girls (senators, Reps, chiefs, authors and tabloids) who are buying and selling themselves with the ‘missing’ or as Bab-angida’s David Mark rebranded it, ‘unaccounted-for’ billions($)? 
 
Are we going to band together and coordinate ourselves behind some well known, tested and trusted open activist youth leaders and altruistic, idealistic patriots, the likes of Omojuwa, the Kuti’s, Oby Ezekwesili and Sowore or the progressive, fearless, incorruptible northern Sheikhs, the Gumi’s and Jingir’s, and work together on open web and social media platforms to defend our dignity and salvage our nation made up of great nations and kingdoms that deserve our nobility and sacrifice? 
 
If we band together we will be wealthier than those who stole and steal our billions and buy and sell each other. This is our only chance, any other thing and we will be fools forever in continuation of the the fools we have been for most of 53 years. 
 
Fellow ugly girls, do you remember 1993 and how we banded together and kicked out Bab-angida? How we prayed together 5 years later and Abacha died? Now we have those who celebrate Abacha and free his thieving, laundering children to empower them over us. We have those who gather us in millions in immigration job scams and kill us. We have those in power now who sponsor terror over us and leave our daughters at the mercy of ‘Shekau’ who they arm and give cover for in his convoy operations in which he uses our army vehicles they have given him on our own people. We have those who rather buy senators, or rather, sinators for hundreds of thousands of dollars, than spend a few hundred to assist with our nation’s security and with the securing the freedom and better life of our abducted daughters and their families. These are perilous times, the devil is awake all night and very busy plotting our death. Ugly girls, shall we band together or continue to perish?

Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory and key member of the APC, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has revealed that the Presidency indeed orchestrated the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako. Fuming few minutes after the news of Nyako’s removal by the Adamawa State House of Assembly filtered in, El-Rufai stated that the development was capable of “endangering the nation.”<a name='more'></a> Nasarawa, Edo, Borno and Rivers are next on the Jonathan roadmap... <div><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=1273158107245326844" name="more"></a></div><div>Writing on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the former minister said the scheming by the Presidency to deal with the APC was not over. He said they have uncovered plots by the Presidency to perfect the impeachment of three more governors from the opposition party. He listed the governors as:</div><div>Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State; Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa. “Jonathan’s impunity is endangering the nation. Adamawa APC governor Murtala Nyako was impeached to pave the way for a PDP man to become governor. Nasarawa is next. Then, Rivers and Edo. And President Jonathan thinks that all will be well while he violates the constitution and the law. We will see how it all ends. We have been there before!” he wrote in a post on his Facebook page. A message on the official Twitter page of a former Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki, stated that with the impeachment of Nyako, it seemed as if Nigeria was “heading towards a one-party state.” Also, Rukaiya, a native of Adamawa State and daughter of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, blamed the impeached governor, Nyako, for his travails. She described Nyako as being “the worst of them all”, adding that it was unfortunate that he could not “handle” the members of the state legislature “Nyako could not handle the legislators in his own state, he was never a politician in the first instance. Good riddance to bad rubbish! Nyako has really been the worst of them all!” Rukaiya wrote on her Twitter page.</div></div>

A female undergraduate of Babcock University, Ms Busayo Ogunkoya, has been killed by one Azeez Ibrahim during a birthday party in a hotel in  the Ikorodu area of Lagos. Immediately the incident happened, there was confusion in the vicinity as many of the invited guests fled the hotel.

A source who was present during the unfortunate incident disclosed that Ibrahim was drunk. He said that “the incident happened on Saturday night when Busayo and her friends were having a party. </blockquote>

"Ibrahim, the security man, who was holding a gun which he claimed he had seized from some robbers, mishandled the gun and fired a bullet which hit Busayo. The guard was said to be drunk.”<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6589160015449763735" name="more"></a></blockquote>
 
According to Punch, the incident took place on Saturday evening, July 5, 2014, at Mambillah Hotel, when the guard fired a shot that killed Busayo. The bullet lodged in the neck region of the victim. 
 
She was rushed to a private hospital in the area where she was confirmed dead. Policemen from the Owutu Police Division were said to have arrived at the scene and arrested the guard, the assistant manager of the hotel and the victim’s boyfriend. 
 
Mambillah, which is one of the popular hotels in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, bore a gloomy look all through. A resident confided in Punch that since the tragedy, the hotel had been shut to guests and no music had been played during the daytime as was the practice. 
 
A large number of security officials was also said to have been deployed in the hotel to prevent attack from some aggrieved youths in the area. 
 
A young boy, who did not identify himself for security reason, said the incident left a bl*ody trail. He said, “On Sunday morning when I wanted to do something in the hotel, I noticed bl*od on the ground. I cannot say exactly how the incident happened, but I learnt a lady was killed the previous night.” 
 
Ibrahim, the guard who fired the killer shot, owned a house in Ikorodu. Punch spoke with one of his tenants, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons. The tenant described Ibrahim as a caring landlord who was only a victim of some “forces.” 
 
She said, “He is such a nice and caring landlord. I have been living in his house for a long time and he has never made any trouble with me. I know he is just a victim of some forces beyond his control. He could not have deliberately killed the girl and I hope the police authorities would have mercy on him.” 
 
When contacted, the manager of the hotel said he had nothing to say. 
 
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, an ASP, however, confirmed the incident. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for investigation.</div>
