Teacher, Pupils Flee As Undergraduate Buries 25 Raw Eggs in School Premises

Teachers and pupils of LEA Primary School, Nabor, a village close to 
Angwa Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, are now living in fear following the 
arrest of a university graduate, Sheriff Charles, who was alleged to 
have buried at least 25 raw eggs around the school premises.</div>

Already, many pupils and even some teachers have deserted the school. 
The alleged culprit, Charles, who resides in the village with his 
parents and other siblings was said to have gone to the school after 
closing hours on Monday, November 24, 2014 to bury the eggs between two
 blocks of classrooms. As he claimed, the intent was for him to receive 
favour from God and man.</div>

 learnt, Charles has remained unemployed long after completing the 
mandatory one year service, thus prompting his recourse to what has now 
been interpreted by people in the neighbourhood as diabolic self-help 
that expectedly sparked off apprehension in the village. The head of 
the school, Mrs. Deborah Solomon, said the pupils are now scared to come
 to school.</div>

<b> “We the teachers are even scared because we do not know his motive. He 
buried the eggs where the children normally go to play. We do not know 
whether it could be a threat to the lives of the pupils or it would 
have effect on their wellbeing. Up till now if I say I am happy, it is 
not true. I am truly worried. To encourage the children to come to 
school, some of us brave the odds and come to school. Since the 
incident, we do gather the few pupils who still come to school to pray 
for our safety. I have been encouraging them to believe in the living 
God and not the type of god people like Sheriff believe in. I do tell 
them that our God would not allow evil things to happen to us. So they 
should not be afraid.”</b></blockquote>

Though Charles insisted that the eggs were not to harm anybody but meant
 for his own good, Solomon said the teachers do not believe him.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<b>“When we asked him to drink one of the eggs if they are not harmful, he
 refused to do so. If they have nothing to do with anybody he could have
 buried them in his house and if not his house, by the stream behind the
 school where people rarely visit or by the hills behind the school but 
not in the school premises. I do not know why he chose this school. 
There are other private schools around here but he chose to come here. 
Is it because it is mainly patronized by the poor?”</b></blockquote>

Giving insight on how Charles was discovered, Solomon said she had 
already gone home on the fateful day, but a pupil of the school 
recalled seeing Charles with a polythene bag in school. He dug a hole 
in the ground and put something in it. The pupil ran into the village to
 alert some people including one of their teachers living close by. </div>

By then the villagers had already caught Charles, who was being dragged
 to the house of the Mai Angwa of Gwom Nabor, Mr. Sani Aware. The crowd 
was just too large that it was not possible for her to even see the man 
initially.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<b>Comrade Marta, who is the state treasurer of the the Plateau State 
chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, said the mob was ready to 
lynch the man. Some were even throwing stones and other objects at him. 
But on getting to Mai Angwa he took the suspect in and prevented them 
from killing him. The people were very angry because they said the man 
could as well have planted a bomb in the school premises without them 
knowing, given what is happening in some parts of the country now.</b></blockquote>

Having taken effective custody of Charles, the Mai Angwa used the 
security number circulated publicly to invite the police and promptly 
handed Charles over to them.</div>

Continuing the tale, Ibrahim said: </div>

<b>“He was taken to the school where he dug out 21 eggs in one of the 
holes. We did not see the second hole until the following day when one 
of our teachers was checking around. After putting the eggs in the 
holes, he had used dry grass to cover them up. Actually the teacher had
 used her foot to remove the dry grass when one egg popped out. Three 
other eggs were discovered in that hole. This is why everyone is afraid.
 If we had not discovered the other hole, nobody would know it was 
there. Now we do not know whether there are other eggs buried in other 
spots yet to be discovered. This is why everyone is afraid.</b></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<b>
“When the man was questioned even while being taken to Mai Angwa, he 
wanted to confess but his mother who came to the scene did not allow him
 to talk. She was busy shielding him. Even when the villagers were 
throwing objects at him, she was using her body to parry them. At a 
point, her wrapper loosened from her waist without her knowing. When 
Charles was finally taken into the custody of Mai Angwa, he confessed 
that he did it to gain favour from man and from God because he was 
unemployed.</b></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<b>
He said he got the idea from one of his friends during his NYSC days, 
who told him, “If things are not going well for you in life, you can go 
and bury eggs in a school and immediately things will change for you.”</b></blockquote>

Since Charles completed his service, he had not got a job and everywhere
 he went, he met brick walls. Then he remembered what his friend said 
and wanted to experiment it. When he was asked why he chose the school,
 Charles said it was because it was closer to where he borrowed the 
digger and the shovel. </div>

From information gathered, he had asked his younger brother to collect 
the instruments for him from a nearby house. To conceal his motive from 
his younger brother, he sent the innocent boy to buy him suya (roasted 
meat) at Angwa Rukuba, believing that he would have finished what he 
intended before the boy would come back. When the brother came back, he 
saw him in the midst of the crowd that was trying to lynch him. 
Brotherly affection gave him courage and strength as he tried to rescue
 him, not knowing what wrong he had done.</div>

From every indication, the villagers are telling Charles to tell his 
story to the birds because they do not believe one word of what he said.
 Their doubt stems from past experience that members of his family are 
alleged to be notorious for committing such diabolic acts even before 
they moved to Nabor because of the crisis that rocked the state 
capital. </div>

While Charles was being led away despite the strenuous efforts of his 
mother and brother to free him, a woman came to the scene and asked the 
villagers why they allowed the family to live there. She said they were 
known for such diabolic acts while in Angwa Rogo from where they moved 
to Nabor. This explained why his mother tried to protect him instead of 
scolding him for getting involved in such an action.</div>

Following this development, the villagers have served a quit notice on the family to leave the village.</div>

<b>“We do not know whether it was their native doctor that gave him the 
eggs to bury in the school. They could be members of a cult and could 
pose danger to even the whole village. So they must leave,” said a 
villager.</b></blockquote>

Meanwhile Charles has been charged to court. The school authority said 
it has been bearing the cost of prosecuting him alone even though it has
 involved the local government council in the matter.</div>

dedicated wife, Ini was determined to support and encourage her husband.
 She wanted him to be more frugal and to invest whatever resources he 
had in things that will yield some dividends. But things did not quite

husband to get things done. Eventually fights began to occur. The last 
straw that broke the camel’s back was the house Ini bought in Lekki, a

involved in extra-marital affairs. It was Philips who actually did not

Mrs. Juliana Godwin, a 42-year-old Junior Secondary School I (JSSI) 
student of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja, has become one of those
 persons with strong will to change her condition.<br /><br />Mrs. Godwin, 
who hails from Riyom in Riyom LGA of Plateau State, had her education 
stalled by lack of sponsorship, a situation that made her to drop out, 
in 1983, of LEA Primary School, Riyom.<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">
"I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor
 my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was 
with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn  dress making. I
 completed it within a year and  six months."</blockquote>

She told Vanguard that in 2001, she and her children left Jos to join 
her husband in Abuja, where they live at Gosa village, along Airport 
Road.<br /><br />An industrious woman, Godwin became the bread-winner of her
 family. Since had skill in hair plaiting, that became a source of 
livelihood for her and the family. Later she ventured into hawking of 
water in a basin in Gosa market to boost the family’s income.<br /><br />“In
 2003, I was able to save some money from water hawking. I started 
pepper and tomato business with N1,000 from the savings. I also went 
into corn roasting business, but my husband stopped me from the business
 in 2007,” she said.<br /><br />In 2008, Godwin decided to go into 
vocational training with a non-governmental organisation called 
Refocusing Nigerian Talents Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained 
in soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade and disinfectants 
production.<br /><br />“Now I can produce and sell the products I was trained on, and I started with N1,500”, Mrs. Godwin narrated.<br /><br />“I
 came to realise that the business was lucrative and helpful to me and 
my family. I decided to make savings towards going back to school after I

Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State ahead the party’s governorship 
primary<br />
<br />
All is not well in the buildup to the PDP governorship primary in the 
state. The governorship ambitions of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and that 
of another top contender for the ticket, Jimi Agbaje, appear to be too 
big for the ‘umbrella’ party to shelter.<br />
<br />
Other aspirants who will take part in the contest are Nigeria’s 
immediate past High Commissioner to Jamaica, Ambassador Tokunbo Kamson; 
Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi, Mr. Adebayo Doherty and Mrs. Modupe Chukwuneke,
 the only female in the contest.<br />
<br />
Obanikoro was instrumental to the victory of Governor Ayo Fayose in 
Ekiti State. During the Osun election, Obanikoro was also on the ground,
 where he campaigned for the PDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who 
later lost to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on August 9.<br />
<br />
While Obanikoro was on duty for the PDP, Agbaje was in Lagos where he 
embarked on a tour of all the 20 local government councils in the state 
to consult with PDP leaders. Agbaje, who has the backing of the PDP 
leader in the state, Chief Olabode George; as well as a former Minister 
of Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, shot into an early popularity lead in 
the buildup as he was able to acquaint himself with the party’s leaders 
in the state and used the party structure put in place by George to gain
 the advantage.<br />
<br />
The APC had zoned the party’s ticket to Lagos-East senatorial district 
comprising Ikorodu, Epe, Kosofe, Somolu and adjoining communities. Also,
 the APC had also hinted that it was searching for a Christian to be the
 next governor and to this end, a former Accountant General of the 
state, Akinwunmi Ambode, who hails from Epe, was favoured by the 
leadership of the party.<br />
<br />
The decision of the APC became a reference point for the PDP and Agbaje was favoured.<br />
<br />
Agbaje, who also hails from Lagos-East, is a prince from Ikorodu, a 
densely populated division of Lagos which has never produced a governor 
in the state before. Like Ambode, Agbaje is also a Christian.<br />
<br />
Apart from being favoured by the PDP leadership, several political 
parties in the state, including the state leadership of the Labour 
Party, Citizen Peoples Party and People for Democratic Change, all 
endorsed Agbaje as their consensus candidate. As the PDP leadership in 
the state believed that it would finally be able to wrest power from the
 APC through the candidature of Agbaje, the unexpected occurred in 
October when Obanikoro formally resigned his appointment and declared 
his intention to contest the governorship election.<br />
<br />
The political atmosphere became charged upon Obanikoro’s entry but this 
has also come with its attendant issues as the party became 
factionalised. George, who is the state leader of the party, reportedly 
tried to push out Obanikoro from the race but many South-West PDP 
leaders quickly rallied round Obanikoro who had helped the party to gain
 some ground in the South-West.<br />
<br />
Statements were issued by groups loyal to both Agbaje’s camp and 
Obanikoro’s camp attacking one another. As campaigns continued, Agbaje 
and Obanikoro continued to fire indirect shots at each other.<br />
<br />
Obanikoro, while declaring his intention to contest at PDP secretariat 
in November, said party delegates should not vote for any person that 
had never held a political office before. Obanikoro, who has been a 
minister, an ambassador, a senator, a commissioner and a local 
government chairman, is one of the most experienced politicians in Lagos
 PDP. Agbaje has never held a political office before.<br />
<br />
Obanikoro said it would be unjust for Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital,
 to be run by ‘an apprentice governor’. However, Agbaje later fired back
 during a meeting with delegates in which he said they should not vote 
for anyone who was too domineering and would want to hijack the party.<br />
<br />
Agbaje told the delegates that selecting a "dictator" as the candidate 
of the party would be like handing the state governorship to the APC.<br />
<br />
He said, “As delegates, you own the party. If you elect someone 
unsuitable and overbearing, he will simply take the party from you and 
exclude you from making input into the government. He will become 
another dictator, like the one in Lagos, who monopolises the appointment
 of councillors, local government chairmen, senators, commissioners and 
even market women leaders.”<br />
<br />
PDP Organising Secretary, South-West, Femi Carrena, accused some elders 
in the party of “smuggling” Agbaje into the party to contest in the 
party’s primary.<br />
<br />
But Adeseye Ogunlewe, while speaking with Punch, said Obanikoro was not a
 saleable candidate. He claimed that Obanikoro was too controversial and
 it would be in the best interest of the party if Obanikoro was not 
given the ticket.<br />
<br />
He recalled that Obanikoro had been accused of setting the Lagos City 
Hall ablaze and also complicity in administering funds meant for Muslim 
pilgrims when he was Commissioner for Home Affairs during the 
administration of former Governor Bola Tinubu.<br />
<br />
He said, “In 2015, people will not vote for party but the candidate, 
that is our fear in the PDP. Perception is very important in politics. 
We must do what is expedient, what people will be happy about. The party
 will play a very little role in who will win the election."<br />
<br />
While addressing journalists at his home on Saturday, Obanikoro said 
events had shown that he was contesting against George and Ogunlewe and 
not Agbaje.<br />
<br />
He said it was unfortunate that the party leaders would try to impose a 
candidate on the party but said he was confident that he would win. He 
had earlier told journalists that he would have to fight two godfathers 
in order to become governor of Lagos. One in the PDP and one in the APC.<br />
<br />
Strangely, at Obanikoro’s formal declaration last week, top executives 
of the party were conspicuously absent. But the chairman of the 
South-West PDP, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, openly declared support for 
Obanikoro.<br />
<br />
However, Obanikoro could also win. In what could be described as a 
pre-governorship primary victory, Obanikoro’s candidate in the 
Lagos-Central senatorial election, Ade Dosunmu, beat George’s candidate 
to clinch the ticket of the party.<br />
<br />
Obanikoro and George are from the same senatorial district – 
Lagos-Central. If Obanikoro could convince 130 out of 230 delegates to 
vote against George’s candidate, it could imply that Obanikoro would be 
able to convince the 1,000 delegates that will be voting to once again 
vote against Agbaje.</div>

Moving to impeach a sitting President just three months to election is 
not wise move and it appears some of the members of the House of Reps, 
and probably Senators, who signed up for it are backing out.<br />

A Reps member, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo has expressed reservation over the move
 to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the members of the 
National Assembly signed the president’s impeachment notice out of 
provocation and anger.<br />
<br />
Ojo who is seeking re-election as the member representing Ekiti central 
constituency II on the platform of APC said his colleagues hurriedly 
signed the impeachment notice to register their displeasure at the 
security agents’ harassment on the Speaker and others at the National 
Assembly’s gate.<br />

In his words: “The impeachment notice was signed by members, we will 
look into it, but to the best of my knowledge, I do not think there is a
 serious level of impeachment of the president now.”</blockquote>
Giving a clear picture of the impeachment saga, he said:<br />

“My parents never gave up on me and treated me like a king; they supported me financially and prayerfully. I wanted to enroll in a primary school, but the school administrators rejected me because they felt I could not write. They also felt that my physical defect would scare off children from the school. My parents got information about a school owned by a white woman, St. Lukes Nursery and Primary School in Warri, Delta State. From there I moved to Sure Success College, Warri for my secondary education. I later gained admission into Delta State University, Abraka where I read Library and Information Science. For the mandatory National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, I served in Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State and I am presently running my Masters programme in the same University,”<o:p></o:p></div>

Abolore ‘9ice’ Akande has announced that the House of Representatives election took place at Ogbomoshotoday has not been concluded due to crisis.<o:p></o:p></div>

It was revealed that crisis started when 9ice’s local government election wanted to start voting. So election has not been concluded.<o:p></o:p></div>
