 without her mother's consent has been found. The little girl's mum, 
Temmy Moronke, who has been on a week-long online campaign to find her 
daughter, shared the news on Twitter today. Lily is pictured above with

resignation of CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. In a statement he 
released on his facebook page, Okotie says the incessant hobnobbing of 
Oritsejafor with President Goodluck Jonathan couple withe the $9.3m 
found on his jet in South Africa, makes him unworthy to head the

country at a time when the narrative of this government is brimming with
 negatives under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan.</span></div>

The South African government took the action on the alleged charge that 
the undeclared $9.3m found in the plane might have been laundered. This 
revelation came when the dust generated by the seemingly dubious 
donation of the jet to Pastor Ayo is yet to settle. His friendship with 
the President has been at the centre of the controversies that mark his 
explosive tenure as the leader of the eponymous religious organization 
in Nigeria.</span></div>

 that it is a sin to be the President’s Pal, but when such relationship 
becomes provocatively patronizing, or self-serving, it is unacceptable. 
The Pastor does not show restraint in the way he goes about, publicly 
hobnobbing with the President as if he is the Chaplain of Aso Rock. This
 certainly has compromised the integrity of his office as CAN President 
and this latest incident is just the climax of embarrassing incidents we
 can’t tolerate any longer.</span></div>

 the collateral damage Pastor Ayo’s close relationship with the 
President has done to the Christian community, it is fit and proper for 
the Pastor to resign immediately as CAN President to salvage what 
remains of the battered image of the association.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">

 is without prejudice to the on-going investigation on the matter. 
Denials of his culpability by the Federal Government, CAN officials and 
his own recent defense, does nothing to reduce the moral burden this 
whole saga places on his shoulders. As the titular leader of Christians 
in Nigeria, there’s now a serious crisis of confidence on his leadership
 and he ought to respond to it by resigning from his exalted position.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">

 is what the ecclesiastic responsibility of his calling as a gospel 
minister dictates, once he finds himself in a situation where his 
continued occupation of public office suffers a moral deficit, on 
account of any error of commission or omission. If one may ask: why 
should Pastor Ayo’s jet be the one that was chartered for this ill-fated
 transaction when there are numerous competitors in that business in 
which he is obviously a new player?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">

 is very difficult to sustain the argument that a civilian aircraft is 
ideal to ferry weapons of war. A sitting President of CAN should never 
be involved in any way in the procurement of arms to fight insurgents 
like Boko Haram which claims Islamic principles in its war against the 
state. To do so is to expose Christians to more deadly attacks.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">To
 whom much is given, much is expected. The Pastor has the distinction of
 being the first and only person to occupy the posts of CAN President, 
and President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, until 
recently when Rev. Felix Omobude succeeded him as PFN President.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">Pastor
 Ayo’s friendship with President Jonathan is perfectly legitimate and 
nobody should attempt to query such relationship. However, the Pastor 
opens himself to criticism of this otherwise normal social interaction 
because of his indiscretion in identifying too closely to the President,
 in a way that suggests a veiled endorsement of Dr. Jonathan’s policies 
and actions by the entire Christian community. He ought to have 
identified privately with the President knowing full well that he 
carries the mandate of the Christian community at these trying times.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">In
 a nation of contending faiths, Pastor Ayo literally ignores our 
divergent religious sensibilities as he sometimes gets himself involved 
in public quarrels with the President’s critics, from the muslim faith 
as well as in the opposition. Not all Christians are comfortable with 
this posture by their leader, especially at a time of intense 
politicking and the sectarian tensions generated by the Boko Haram 
insurgents and communal violence involving ethnic minorities with 
entrenched religious identities.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">

 cumulative effect of Pastor Ayo’s abrasive leadership style has also 
polarized the Christian community as evidenced by the current 
unprecedented division in CAN. Before now, leaders of this organization 
deliberately stayed out of politics in keeping with the traditional 
stance of neutrality of the body vis-a-vis the policy postures of 
incumbent governments. In fact, former PFN leaders like the late 
Archbishop Benson Idohosa and ex-CAN President, Olubunmi Cardinal Okogie
 kept governments on their toes during their time.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">In
 more mature democracies, it is not unusual for public officers to 
resign from office when their actions appear to degrade their positions.
 And they would not have to wait to be found guilty in circumstances 
surrounding their actions before they throw in the towel. In other 
words, they could even be victims of circumstances; or in rare cases, 
subjects of blackmail. It didn’t matter. Once you are pelted in any way,
 you quit to protect the integrity of your office.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">That
 was the case of Dominic Strauss-Khan who resigned his position as the 
President of IMF because he was accused of molesting a maid in a hotel 
in the United States. He was eventually acquitted after a celebrated 
trial. The Prime Minister of South Korea, Jong Hong-won resigned because
 his compatriots were drowned recently in a chartered cruise ship which 
carried some students on a picnic. Just last month, the First Minister 
of Scotland, Mr. Alex Salmond resigned because he led his country’s 
failed bid to gain independence from the United Kingdom. Nobody asked 
him to resign; he did so of his own accord because he felt it was wrong 
to continue to run a country he launched on a part of an unsuccessful 
“secession”.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">If
 purely secular leaders could do this to affirm their integrity, Pastor 
Ayo should take the honourable path by leaving office, not necessarily 
because he is guilty as charged, but to restore honour to an exalted 
office he has unwittingly degraded because of his unabashed flirtation 
with the head of a government that is perceived as one of the most 
corrupt in the world. The Bible commands us to “flee from all appearance
 of evil”.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">Nobody
 says Pastor Ayo cannot do business; he could have been in order, if he 
does so as the Pastor of his Word of Life Bible Church, WOLBC. But since
 his private jet was involved in a transaction gone awry in a foreign 
land, while he is still the sitting President of CAN, it is difficult 
for him to continue to command the respect of Nigerian Christians of 
diverse denominations who constitute the CAN group, regardless of the 
defense his sympathizers and the Federal Government tried to put up on 
his behalf.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">If
 this incident had happened in Pastor Ayo’s capacity as the head/founder
 of the Word of Life Bible Church, no one could justifiably call for his
 head because the Bible teaches that the “call of God is without 
repentance”. In other words, regardless of the conduct of a servant of 
God, He does not remove them from office or withdraw their anointing. 
This is one of the mysteries of the gospel. The Almighty has a way of 
chastising his errant servants.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 130%; margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: 63.0pt; margin-right: 67.5pt; margin-top: 0in; tab-stops: 400.5pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">But
 here, we are dealing with Pastor Ayo as the leader of CAN; the largest 
umbrella of Nigerian Christians. He is condemned to be judged by secular
 standards, which, in this case, demands that, having found himself in a
 quagmire which calls to question, the sanctity of his office, he must 
step down to redeem his image.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 130%;">The
 Pastor should quit the CAN post and return to his church where he could
 then recalibrate himself, away from this season of anomie.</span>

The late Deru and Ms Ibrahim met six years ago in Odogbolu, she said.<br />
<br />
“There was a day I was with him. We had s*x but the wife caught us. So, I
 had to leave the town shortly after. I went to Lagos to work as an 
apprentice hairdresser,” she said.<br />
<br />
According to Ibrahim, after her apprenticeship and a love affair in 
Lagos that resulted in a child, she was back in Odogbolu, where another 
love affair resulted in another child.<br />
<br />
“None of the fathers of my children were good. They never took care of 
me or the children. I turned to the only person who has been really 
helpful to me. My lover (Deru) was a good man. He helped me anytime I 
called on him.<br />
<br />
“When we reconnected after I got back from Lagos, we continued our love 
affair secretly because he was always there when I needed help.”<br />
<br />
Asked what sort of help Deru rendered, <span style="color: #cc0000;">Ms Ibrahim said he sometimes gave her foodstuffs or money for food, which she said was up to N1,000 on each occasion</span>.<br />
<br />
So, she and Deru enjoyed a s*xual experience that endured until their 
final encounter, which has put her in police net as a murder suspect.<br />
<br />
“Our lovemaking was not even that long. He started complaining that he 
was not feeling fine. He said he was feeling tired and dizzy. Shortly 
after, he collapsed and stopped breathing.”<br />
<br />
When Deru became unresponsive, Ms Ibrahim said she became frightened.<br />
<br />
Confused about what to do next, she dialled the telephone number of a male relation, explaining what had happened.<br />
<br />
“My brother (the relation) told me to calm down, promising to come to my
 aid later that afternoon so that we could decide on what to do. But 
when I did not see him by evening, I realised he had run away and 
switched off his mobile telephone in fear,” she said.<br />
<br />
She had to turn to another acquaintance who eventually agreed to help 
her dispose of the body. “We thought if I reported to the police, I 
would be in serious trouble. I didn’t know I was making a terrible 
decision.”<br />
<br />
It was around 3am the following day that disposed of Deru’s body with the help of a motorcycle rider living in her house.<br />
<br />
The motorcyclist, Benjamin Friday, who tried his best to present his 
version of the events that led to his involvement in disposing of the 
body, said he had no idea that Deru was already dead.<br />
<br />
“When they woke me up to help them carry a body, I was told it was her 
(Ibrahim’s) elderly relation. I was really sleepy, they only told me he 
was ill and they wanted to dump his body on a roadside so that he would 
not die in her house,” he said.<br />
<br />
Asked how he could possibly help carry a body and would not know whether
 it was that of a dead man, Friday said he was sleepy at the time.<br />
<br />
“<span style="color: #cc0000;">I told them I would not touch the man’s 
body. Someone sat behind me supporting the man’s body. I only drove them
 to the roadside. They put the body down and I left</span>.”<br />
<br />
Also in police custody was a photographer friend of Ms Ibrahim, 
Funmilayo Moyegun, who said she was only requested to be there “to take 
his (Deru’s) photograph.”<br />
<br />
“I only held the lamp when the body was being dumped,” she said.<br />
<br />
Deru’s body was said to have been dumped about 100 metres away from his lover’s house on Oladipo Diya Road, Odogbolu.<br />
<br />
The police were called to the scene when the body was found by residents of the area.<br />
<br />
Police PRO in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said after a thorough 
investigation, the body was eventually traced to Ibrahim. “We would 
determine how the man died and whether her version of the story 
correlates with the circumstances of the death,” Adejobi said.<br />
<br />
He revealed that an autopsy would help the police determine the level of culpability of Ms Ibrahim.</div>

the governor’s formal declaration for the PDP. And in a related 
development, the former state secretariat of the LP, located on Fiwasaye
 Road in the state capital, has been converted to the new secretariat of
 the PDP on the directive of the governor. It is, however, not clear yet
 how the old members of the PDP would take this relocation, as many of 
them were allegedly taken unawares by the unexpected development. </div>

Urmila Sharma, 28, from Haryana province did not know she had twins 
until two weeks before the birth because she could not afford to pay for
 ultrasound scans. <br />

Doctors fear that the twins, who have a condition known as dicephalic parapagus, will be lucky to survive. <br />
<br />
‘The parents are very distressed and we are helping the family the best 
we can,’ explained Doctor Shikha Malik, who delivered the babies. <br />
<br />
Born via C-section at Cygnus JK Hindu hospital yesterday morning, 
doctors say the twins cannot be separated because they share so many key
 body parts. <br />
<br />
‘We only came to know she was carrying conjoined twins after an 
ultrasound two weeks ago but it was too late to do anything by then,’ 
added Dr Malik. <br />
<br />
There is hope however that the twins could survive and adapt to their 
condition thanks to the inspiration of Abigail and Brittany Hensel – 
twins with dicephalic parapagus in the US that have lived into their 
twenties. <br />
<br />
Dr Malik explained: ‘Now the baby is born we will do our best to save 
her and we hope to operate once her condition is more stable.’<br />

Edo state lawmakers residing at the Legislative quarter located along
 Ihama road in the government reservation area Saturday morning  woke up
 to the sound of heavy gun shots as armed suspected thugs allegedly 
sacked all the lawmakers and their family members.<br /><br />
The invasion may not be unconnected with the Monday violent attack on a 
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lawmaker, Abdulrazak Momoh who is being 
treated at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.<br />

The Speaker Uyi Igbe, Majority leader, Hon Phillip Shaibu and other 
principal officer’s security were said to have been overpowered by 
firing power of the invading thugs.<br />
Scores of cars belonging to the Majority leader, Phillip Shaibu, Sunday 
Aghedo, Folly Ogedengbe and Bright Osayande were riddled with bullets in
 an attack which lasted for about 30 minutes.<br />
The invading thugs were said to have been allegedly led by a notorious thugs popularly called ‘Shaba’.<br /><br />
He was said to have stormed the quarters at about 6:00 am Saturday morning in a 10 Hiace buses loaded with armed thugs.<br /><br />
A visibly shaken eye witness who spoke Nation said the residents woke up
 to the sounds of gun shot and about 100 thugs firing bullets at 
vehicles packed.<br /><br />
” They were shouting that we will kill all the APC lawmakers today. I hid in one of the boys quarter for my safety.<br /><br />
“They also threatened to return back on later day”<br />
At the time of filing in this report heavy detachment of stern looking 
Policemen from the state command had condone the assembly quarters.<br />

Reacting to the attack , the state commissioner of police , CP Foluso
 Adebanjo said the command will get to the root of the matter , adding 
that the people involved will be brought to book .

State have arrested 26 people suspected of being l*sbians in a raid on a
 h*mos*xual hideout in the state capital Asaba in a major clampdown on 
same s*x relationships.</span></strong><br />

According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspects were picked up at a location around Awai Road Asaba in Asaba.<br /><br />
Detective Superintendent Celestina Kalu, a spokesman for the command,
 confirmed the arrests of, adding they were picked up while allegedly 
having s*x with one another at their hideout. He added that the 
suspects were caught na k ed and upon arrest confessed to the crime 
during interrogation, claimed they were resorted to h*mos*xuality as a 
way of eking out a living.<br /><br />
Detective Superintendent Kalu said the suspects would be charged to 
court on completion of the ongoing investigation. Apparently, their 
hideout is operated as a pub to ward off suspicion and operators of the 
spot, which has been running for the last two years, employ thugs who 
stand sentry at its gates. They then collect fees from those willing to 
be exposed to the ill*cit s*x ual activities at the hideout.<br />

<span style="line-height: 1.3em;">According to the police, teenage 
girls from neighbouring communities and states reportedly troop to the 
hideout at night where after smoking and drinking, they engage in s*xual acts with patrons who pay them heavily.</span><br /><br />
This latest roundup is part of a general crackdown on h*mos*xual 
activity across Nigeria. On January 7, President Goodluck Jonathan 
signed Nigeria’s Draconian Same S*x Marriage Prohibition Bill into law,
 making being h*mos*xual punishable by 14 years in jail. It has since 
attracted widespread condemnation from human rights bodies and the 
international community, with the pope being one of those calling for 
tolerance of alternative lifestyles but state governments across Nigeria

 Niyi Olawale and his wife, Olanike, is wide apart and so, they were 
offended by the new neighbours’ remarks on hearing that they were not 
father and daughter. Olawale was 60 while Olanike was 33.<br /><br />“It was
 a first for us to see a couple with so much age difference. Although we
 didn’t know their ages as of the time, it was glaring that the man was 
much older than the woman. It was later after we had become friends that
 they told us how they felt insulted by the way we reacted to the 
information.<br />“Honestly, my husband and I thought the man was the 
woman’s father and that they were teasing us, so we freely joked about 
it. I think they got annoyed because as they tried to explain to us that
 they were a couple, we kept insisting that it couldn’t be. We were like
 ‘how could he (Mr. Olawale) be married to a woman that young?’<br /><br />“I
 think my husband also joked about being the first person who would 
volunteer to call the police if he knew that Mr. Olawale was having

 Olawales have been married for about eight years. Olawale was a rich 
widower when he met Olanike, but she insists that her attraction was 
based on pure unadulterated love for him.<br />“He had lost his wife when 
we met but I didn’t marry him for money; people can say whatever they 
like. It is not everyone who marries old men that do it for the money, 
sometimes, it is because they have genuine love for each other,” Olanike
 said with a measure of conviction.<br />“I love my husband because he’s 
caring, mature and responsible. I like the way he pampers and gives me 
attention. People often think that marrying someone much older than you 
means there will be no s*x, but that is a lie.”<br />The secret<br />Olanike attributed the secret behind the success of her marriage to a much older Olawale to moderation.<br />“We
 have s*x but the secret is not to overdo it,” she said with a coy 
smile. “My husband is not into frequent s*x which is okay by me because I
 don’t want someone who will want to have s*x everyday, in the first 
instance. If it will happen once in a week or two weeks, he makes it 
count.”<br />Asked if she’s not bothered by her husband’s wrinkly skin, 
Olanike asked “what wrinkly skin? I don’t see all that because I love 
him.”<br />As Olanike shared her story on the balcony of their posh 
duplex, her two children who she had with Olawale, played a chasing 
game, screaming, shouting and catching their mother’s occasional 
watchful glances.<br />The children’s joyfulness intermittently brought 
smiles to Olanike’s face, but a question asked by our correspondent 
seemed to briefly change that mood, wiping the smile off her pretty 
face.<br />Our correspondent asked if it had occurred to her that she and 
her children could lose Olawale someday, sooner than they expected.<br />With
 a solemn look suggesting understanding and contemplation, Olanike 
admitted that such thoughts had crossed her mind but that she tried not 
to dwell on them.<br />“I try not to think about it but it’s inevitable 
for all of us someday. That was the major reason why my mother was 
against my marriage initially, but after she realised that my mind was 
made up and that I was happy with him, she let go,” she explained.<br />But
 it is not in all cases that you find the man being the old one taking a
 beautiful and youthful woman as partner, there are instances where 
women are much older than their spouses, although rarely found in 
Nigeria.<br />But in all, there seems to be diverse reasons for age-gap 
relationships and marriages. Findings show that the older party is 
usually attracted by the youthfulness and vigour of his or her younger 
partner. But findings also show that the attractions some youths have 
for much older persons range from financial stability, years of 
established careers, power and fame, to claims of genuine love and that 
old partners are more caring, mature, disciplined, knowledgeable, 
experienced, s*xually skilled and indulgent.<br />For example, a young 
unmarried woman, Stephanie, dating a 55-year-old man told our 
correspondent that she would consider marrying him if he proposed to 
her.<br />Stephanie, 21, said she is attracted to her man friend’s intelligence and wealth.<br />“Olorunsogo
 ni mo wa, mi o si ni surulere (I don’t have time for patience; I prefer
 to go for what is already on ground). He takes care of my needs, what 
more can a woman ask for?” she asked our correspondent, feigning 
seriousness.<br />“In turn, I keep him happy in bed and he has no reason 
to complain because I give him what no one else gives him. I tend to his
 needs in bed and treat him like a king.”<br />The beauty and the rich<br />There have been a few high profile marriages between beautiful young women and rich and powerful old men.<br />One
 of the most prominent of such marriages is that of billionaire 
businessman, Chief Rasaq Okoya, 74, and Shade, 36. In 2002 when the 
couple got married, Okoya was 62 years old while Shade was just 24.<br />Early this year, the couple renewed their wedding vows at their grand residence in Lagos.<br />“He
 is a loving man, he’s a very generous person, he’s loyal, he’s polite, 
he’s a very disciplined man, he is a nice person, very humble and loving
 husband. He is different from what he is known to be, everybody knows 
him to be a business man, an entrepreneur, but in the house he’s a very 
loving person. I have learnt his generosity and hard work,” she said 
while extolling her husband’s virtues.<br />Also in a recent interview, Shade said she doesn’t keep artificial fingernails because Okoya likes his food in varieties.<br />“I
 must enter the kitchen everyday. I make sure he is well taken care of. 
My husband likes varieties so I don’t just cook one food. He takes them 
in bits. This is one of the reasons you will never see me with 
artificial nails,” she said. Shade is the Managing Director of Eleganza 
Fashion Products Limited.<br />Last year, 72-year-old Nigerian 
businessman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, married 26-year-old Frances 
Enwerem after losing his wife of 40 years, Eudora, to cancer.<br />Iwuanyanwu
 is 46 years older than his wife, but the age difference 
notwithstanding, the couple had a lavish wedding and both have been 
living happily after, (at least so it seems).<br />An ex-beauty queen, 
Susan Hart, who is wedded to a renowned medical director who co-owns the
 popular Eko Hospital, Olorogun Sunny Kuku, in spite of a huge age gap, 
recently gave an insight into what some young women like herself like to
 see in old men.<br />To her, the age difference is not an issue in her 
marriage. “We are best of friends. My husband’s humility and humbleness 
also makes us best friends,” she further explained, describing the age 
gap as “nothing.”<br />“Where I come from in Port-Harcourt (Rivers State),
 husbands are treated as kings. It’s the woman that makes it work and 
this is why it’s so hard for people to know how long we have been 
married.<br />“I accord him a lot of respect so he won’t see himself 
missing anything when he gets outside. It’s the woman who makes the 
marriage work. We have been married for a couple of years now and I am 
still enjoying it like yesterday and he makes me really happy. I have a 
son for him who is over 10 years old.”<br />Olorogun Kuku, who is an Ijebu chief, also shared his side of the story, also describing his wife as his friend.<br />“I
 don’t want to tell you how I met my beautiful wife but I can tell you 
that she is my friend. She is the best thing to have happened to me. As 
far as I am concerned, our meeting is divine. I don’t have to think 
about what to wear again. She does all the designs which come out nice 
just the way I want them.”<br />Just recently, a former Miss Nigeria UK, 
Dabota Lawson, 26, confirmed her engagement to billionaire businessman, 
Sunny Aku, who is in his fifties.<br />Reports have it that Aku has been 
spoiling Lawson with expensive gifts and that their affection for each 
other has continued to blossom.<br />Just recently, Dabota tweeted a 
picture of a report on Aku in a national daily and its link, adding “At 
work and just saw this. So proud of my hubby… .”<br />After some public 
bashing, ex-Miss Osun State, Banke Oyelami, 24, came out to defend her 
marriage to 48-year-old Hon. Rotimi Makinde, last year.<br />“It’s not about what he can give me, though meeting him has changed my life,” she admitted.<br />“He’s
 very intelligent, creative and hardworking. And he’s a good person, to 
me, his children and everybody around him. He wants the best for me. 
When he proposed to me, I told him I was still in the university and he 
agreed to wait for me to finish and he has been very patient and 
supportive of my education.<br />“People have been saying all sorts since 
we announced our engagement but I am not bothered by the talk. I met a 
good man who loves me and it feels good because I have everything in 
him, a father, brother and friend. I feel secured because he’s very 
mature and caring and I am looking forward to our life together.”<br />Another
 ex-beauty queen, Ene Lawani, who was in a relationship with a much 
older John Obayuwana for seven years before they broke up, told 
journalists that she had a thing for dating old men.<br />Asked why she 
preferred old men, she said, “let’s just say that I understand the older
 ones better and they understand me better than the younger ones.<br />“No,
 I can make my money myself. It has nothing to do with their money. I 
learn a whole lot from them; I like to hang out with people I benefit 
from intellectually. Most importantly, I learn a lot from their 
experiences.”<br />Recently, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who 
is over 70 years old, caused a media buzz when pictures of him and his 
four young wives trended on the social media. Adeyemi and his young 
wives were on vacation in London, UK.<br />In an interview with Saturday 
PUNCH earlier this year, 78-year-old Kessington Adebutu, spoke about his
 love for women. Incidentally, Adebutu’s youngest wife, Kofo, had given 
birth to a set of twins some months earlier after eight of marriage to 
the wealthy philanthropist.<br />However, Adebutu, who said he had no 
regrets being a polygamist, did not rule out marrying another wife. He 
said he enjoyed the company of women.<br />“Do you really believe she is 
the last wife? Anyway, she is the last wife for now. Nobody knows what 
will happen. My father had his last wife when he was 80. She is my last 
wife at the moment,” Adebutu said, while speaking about his youngest 
wife.<br />“I am very weak when it comes to women. If I see a woman I 
like, I make sure I take her as a wife. I don’t waste time at all. I 
don’t like to play games. If I like a woman, I talk to her and 
eventually, I take her as my wife. That is why I have so many wives.”<br /><br />Bitter experience<br />All
 the men and women so far mentioned seem to have had it good with their 
relationships, but findings by Saturday PUNCH show that some age-gap 
couples have had sad tales to tell.<br />For instance, in 2012, Eucharia 
Azunobi, 38, got married to Maswell Adindu, 77, who was based in Oxford,
 England. Adindu’s 20-year-old marriage to Tracy, a Briton, had ended 
two years before and his kinsmen were worried because Tracy did not bear
 him a son.<br />The divorce had set Adindu back financially as his 
property were split in halves, with Tracy taking a share. So enter 
Azunobi, who was introduced to Adindu by his concerned brothers during a
 visit to Nigeria.<br />After a quiet wedding ceremony, Adindu arranged 
for Azunobi to join him in the UK. Adindu’s niece, Ngozi, told Saturday 
PUNCH that the marriage ruined her uncle.<br />“We later knew that she 
readily agreed to marry my uncle because she was pregnant at the time 
and the man responsible for the pregnancy was not willing to accept it. 
After the woman moved to the UK, it was war,” she told our 
correspondent.<br />“She had many boyfriends. She would hit herself, give 
herself bruises and then call the cops, claiming that my uncle was 
responsible. Meanwhile, the man’s health was failing. Years later, they 
got a divorce and his property was shared again between them. His house 
in Oxford was sold and half of the proceeds went to the woman.”<br />But that’s not all. Adindu remarried. This time, to another much younger woman.<br />“The
 woman had a child for him too. She got pregnant while they were married
 but the story was similar to his experience with Azunobi. I think the 
reason she got married to him was because she felt she wasn’t getting 
younger and young suitors were not forthcoming. She already had a child 
for another man and the stigma was hanging over her head,” she said.<br />According
 to Ngozi, it’s common in some parts of Imo State, where she comes from,
 for young girls with unwanted pregnancies to marry old men.<br />“Apart 
from that, it is also believed by some people that old men show more 
care and would be a father figure to them,” she added.<br /><br />More lies, less love<br />A
 marriage counsellor, Funmi Akingbade, said unions between partners with
 huge age difference are usually strained and often made up of “70 per 
cent lies and 30 per cent love.” She attributed one of the reasons why 
youths go into such relationships to value degradation.<br />“The union 
will experience strain if the older one falls ill or dies, or it could 
be due to betrayal. It could also have s*xual challenges because of the 
age difference. There could be problems of infidelity and lack of 
trust,” she said.<br />“People have different and weird reasons for being 
attracted to old persons, either man or woman. It could be because of 
money, greed and loss of fundamental human and societal values. But 
sometimes, the old partners are actually good in bed. So they can make 
it work if they are truly in love.”<br /><br />A sociologist, Michael 
Asibogwu, attributed part of the reasons for age-gap marriages to greed.
 He, however, added that such unions do not necessarily have negative 
impacts on the society.<br />He said, “It’s about their lifestyles and 
happiness, although, the society views the young partners in such 
marriages as gold diggers. For instance, a 20-year-old man marrying a 
woman above 50 years will raise eyebrows. So it could be because of 
greed.<br /><br />“But again, the issue deals with emotions and people will 
not really know what such people see in each other. The young women tend
 to take care of their old partners in their old age, for instance, but 
it’s a personal issue.”<br />But in the view of a medical doctor with the 
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Dr. Gbenga Durojaiye, 
such unions come with a few risks, medically.<br /><br />He said that an old
 man marrying a much younger woman stands a risk of having heart attack 
if he’s diabetic while on the other hand, children born to old women 
stand the risk of having chromosomal problems.<br /><br />“Old men in such 
relationships stand the risk of having heart attack, especially if they 
are diabetic or on anti-hypertensive medication. If the man is diabetic,
 the young wife may not be satisfied during s*x and it may lead to 
strains in the marriage. The union may suffer and it may cause 
depression for the man. There may also be problems with fertility,” he 
said.<br />“For the woman,” he continued, “The best reproductive age is 
between 18 and 25 years, so the children stand a risk of having 
chromosomal problems such as Down’s syndrome when they are being given 
birth to at age 40 and above.<br /><br />“A woman getting pregnant for the 
first time at age 35 and above could have obstetrics problems or 
complications, which could lead to still birth.”</span></span></div>

 state government has partly hinged the collapse on building agents who 
did not get approval to erect the structure, adding that, it was due to 
structural deficit as the building was originally a two-storey building.<br /><br />TB
 Joshua had made several claims that the building was demolished with 
explosives. He also blamed an aircraft that hovered over the building 
four times as a possible cause for the collapse.<br /><br />His church also stated that the collapsed building was approved for 12-storey and as such, the structure was strong enough.<br /><br />It
 was on the strength of the controversy that the state government set up
 a panel to actually find out the cause of the collapse.</span></span> </div>

 reported that an Army Colonel, some junior officers and soldiers, who 
were taking part in the military offensive to reclaim communities taken 
over by the Boko Haram terrorists in Adamawa State, have been arrested 
for sabotage.<br /><br />Military sources said that the colonel who was 
Commanding a team of three Armoured Personnel Carriers, APC’s, with the 
capability to fire up to a range of 1.5kilometres or even more, had 
instead of pursuing the terrorists, deliberately set the APCs on fire 
between Gulak and Madagali, before running away with his team of 
soldiers into the bush.<br /><br />Army authorities were outraged over the 
development and ordered the arrest of both the commander, the junior 
officers as well as the soldiers under his command.<br /><br />Narrating how
 the “embarrassing incident occurred,” a source who was privy to the 
development noted that until the latest development, the Special Forces 
of the Nigerian Army who commenced the effort to rout Boko Haram 
terrorists from Bazza, Michika, Gulak and Madagali from Vimtim, had 
successfully dealt with, and inflicted heavy casualties on the 
terrorists up till Gulak.<br /><br />It was said that between Gulak and 
Madagali, the Colonel who had all along been prided with air 
surveillance reports, was again informed that Boko Haram terrorists were
 approaching his team in six Toyota Hilux Pick Up vans from the Madagali
 axis.<br /><br />“However, rather than blasting and taking out the 
terrorists in their pick-up vans, he ordered his soldiers to jump out of
 the APC’s and set the armoured tanks on fire, without realising that he
 was being monitored.<br /><br />“This was shocking because the terrorists 
were armed with weaponry, which were grossly inferior to the firepower 
of the Nigerian Army Amoured tanks.<br /><br />“After accomplishing the 
sabotage act, the Colonel and the junior officers and soldiers ran away 
into the bush, claiming that they were overpowered by a better armed 
group of Boko Haram terrorists”, Saturday Vanguard was told.<br /><br />Military
 sources said that the action of the Colonel and soldiers under his 
command had given vent to the disclosure by the top hierarchy of the 
military that there were so many fifth columnists in the military 
working against the country’s determination to flush out Boko Haram 
terrorists in the land.<br /><br />Meanwhile, a Board of Inquiry, BoI, had 
been set up by the Army authorities to investigate the Colonel and his 
soldiers after which a General Court Martial would be set up to try them
 for conspiracy, treason and willful sabotage among others.<br /><br />A 
senior officer, who confided in Vanguard Newspaper stated that: “You can
 now see why the Military Court Martial which is currently sitting is 
inevitable. The uninformed would feel that soldiers who are fighting the
 nation’s battle are being unjustly punished.<br /><br />“But the truth is 
that many of them are sabotaging Nigeria and making the insurgents look 
formidable for reasons that cannot be explained. Some of them appear 
sympathetic to the insurgents.<br /><br />“How can it be explained that 
several APCs that cost up to $1million each in some cases or more will 
be willfully destroyed by Commissioned Officers (COs), who swore to 
defend the territorial integrity of their nation, just to help 
terrorists? That is treason of the highest order.”<br /><br />The Chief of 
Defence Staff, CDS, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh had during the week 
insisted the death penalty imposed on the 12 soldiers, who were tried 
for treason was lawful and in accordance with military dictates.<br /><br />He
 spoke at a three-day conference organised by the National Security 
Adviser in collaboration with Trim Communication Nigeria Ltd on 
Media/Security relationship in crisis management.<br /><br />According to 
him, “The day you join the military you have signed off, whether life or
 death, and it is obey before complaint. How can a soldier just jump out
 of the APC because you want to donate APC to Boko Haram, and somebody 
is there talking about constructive mutiny?<br /><br />“The laws are there, 
if you run away from the enemy, you will die and that is what the 
military law says. Apart from the old Nigerian law, we abide by the 
military law.<br /><br />“Nobody forces or conscripts anybody into the 
military. It is a voluntary service, and so if we have this type of 
challenge, you should be able to confront it and not to run away”.</span></span></div>

 wonder what happens in families where both husband and wife are 
teachers. Of course, such families will turn to beggars; they will 
depend on people to contribute food for them. We need grace. It is not 
funny at all. If not that teaching is a thing of conscience, nobody 
would want to teach in Abia because the treatment they are giving us is 
not encouraging at all. A garri seller is better than an Abia teacher 
now because, at the end of the day, you collect your money for what you 
sold. In Abia, uncertainty is our lot. The system is worse than mess.”<br /> </span></span><br />

himself simply as Boniface, bemoaned the precarious living condition of
 teachers and the prevailing circumstances in the schools. According to
 him, “it could be said that primary and secondary school teachers in 
Abia State are endangered species. We are treated with disdain; we are 
accorded no respect at all. We are treated as if being a teacher is a 
crime in the state. We don’t know what we have done to the state 
government. We have never had it so bad. And the ugly state of affairs 
is taking its toll on teachers. Sometimes, the government will say that 
it has paid, but we won’t see anything. It is alleged that a high 
ranking official in the board, who hails from the governor’s hometown, 
puts the salaries in fixed deposit account for two months where the 
interests roll over. So, while they are making money, the teachers are 
dying in abject poverty.”<br /><br />Indeed, these are certainly not the 
best of times for primary and secondary school teachers in Abia State, 
just like other categories of civil servants in the state. 
Investigations revealed that teachers are not being paid as and when 
due. Checks revealed that while primary school teachers are owed three 
months salary, their counterparts in secondary schools have not been 
paid for four months as at the first week of October, this year.<br /><br />A
 secondary school teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, 
disclosed: “I don’t understand what is going on in the education sector
 in Abia State. Teachers are not regarded or reckoned with. We are still
 battling with June salary. Up till today, October 6, 2014, we have not
 received June salary. Any time they like, they will pay one-month 
salary. We may even end up collecting September salary in December.”<br /><br />He
 further said that promotion of teachers is a different kettle of fish. 
It was learnt that before this dispensation, teachers were promoted 
every three years but now it is four years. And even at that, the 
accruing benefits will be tampered with. “They manipulate things and 
shortchange you when you are eventually promoted,” a vice principal told
 the reporter.<br /><br /><b>Confusion</b><br /><br />In one of his evergreen 
offerings, Afrobeat impresario and iconoclast, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, 
sings: Confusion break bone. This certainly rings true for primary and 
secondary education in God’s Own State. In a manner of speaking, 
confusion has broken bone in the state. Put differently, there is 
confusion everywhere in the state.<br /><br />Since the state government 
transferred some schools to their original owners, namely the missions,
 confusion reigns supreme. Schools were handed over to their former 
owners last term, but it became effective this term. It was learnt that 
government also transferred its financial commitment to the schools to 
the new owners. A vice principal said: “In Aba, for instance, almost 
half of the schools have been returned to churches and this has 
unsettled things because the action was neither well thought-out nor 
properly executed. The teachers are not comfortable in the mission 
schools and they were told to go away if they are not okay with the 
arrangement. So, what has happened is that, such teachers have now 
flooded the schools not under the control of churches. And they cannot 
afford to go to schools in the rural areas because such schools are not 
accessible; the roads are in such a deplorable condition that going to 
such places as Ohanku, Owerre Aba, Ogbor Hill and Umuojima is a 
herculean task. For that reason, the displaced teachers in the mission 
schools refused to go to the rural areas, thereby flooding the schools 
in the towns. There iws, therefore, no harmony in the schools set up. 
One school may have up to 20 English Language teachers while another one
 may have three.”<br /><br />Some of the schools experiencing a glut of 
teachers include Abayi Girls Secondary School, Immaculate Heart 
Secondary School and Ngwa High School, all in Aba.<br /><br />No teaching materials<br /><br />It
 was gathered that teaching materials are not adequate, if at all. Hear 
this teacher: “During exams, it is the teachers that buy materials for 
practical subjects. We buy the specimen for the practicals because the 
government does not care about such things. The classrooms remain what 
they have been for some time. In fact, they are deteriorating because of
 lack of maintenance. For now, our main concern is how to feed 
ourselves. We are talking about how to eat; nobody is talking about 
infrastructural development or chairs.<br /><br />“Some of the students 
bring their personal lockers to school. In some schools where the 
Parents Teacher Associations (PTAs) are strong, they provide benches 
that can accommodate four students. This government has not done 
anything in that direction. At least, we have not seen any such thing in
 our school. Officially, the schools are tuition-free but the students 
pay what they call government levy. ”<br /><br />It was also gathered that 
the non-indigene teachers who were laid off not too long ago by the 
state government have not been paid their entitlements. One of the 
sacked teachers said: “They went on the internet organising kangaroo 
reinstatement exercise. They are telling the world that they have called
 us back but that is a lie from the pit of hell. I don’t know the 
modalities they adopted. Most of my colleagues who had the same problem
 with me are still perambulating, doing nothing. They brought a few of 
us back to paint a different picture of the situation on ground but it 
is all falsehood. Worse still, some of those that were recalled are at 
the mission schools where their future is uncertain because the new 
owners are recruiting their own personnel.”<br /><br />Recall that the 
state government disengaged thousands of civil servants for the simple 
reason that they are not indigenes. Most of the sacked workers are 
teachers in primary and secondary schools across the state.<br /><br />It 
was also gathered that the teachers were compelled to buy computers from
 the state government at N130,000 each. A source said: “The computers 
are not the best in terms of quality. The mode of payment is that N5,000
 is deducted from salaries every month. And most of the teachers are not
 computer literate. Instead of training them first, they were compelled 
to buy the computers before learning how to use them. It’s like putting 
the cart before the horse. Again, why would you buy for them or force a 
particular product from a particular source on them? If you want every 
teacher to own a computer, you should have allowed them to make their 
choice. There are thousands of teachers in Abia State, so you know what 
it means to buy a computer at N130,000 per teacher. How much do they 
sell a computer of that grade in the market?”<br /><br />Many of the 
teachers are disenchanted with the development. “I don’t know why I 
should be asked to buy a computer when I already have one. Moreover, my 
computer is better than the one they are forcing on us in terms of 
quality. They are not paying but they are always devising ways of 
making life more difficult for us,” Ngozi, a teacher, lamented.<br /><br /><b>Classrooms in ruins</b><br /><br />Most
 of the infrastructures in public schools in Abia State are in shambles.
 The common features are broken roofs, crumbling walls and unplastered 
or damaged floors. Overgrown weeds or wild plants define many of the 
schools, thereby putting the lives of the students in danger.<br /><br />“We
 kill snakes in our school all the time. Before the long vacation, a 
huge snake was found coiled inside a classroom. The children hardly go 
out to play because they are afraid of dangerous reptiles,” a teacher 
said.</span></span><br />
