Nigeria Will Collapse if Jonathan is Re-elected ––Senator Zanna

2015 is fast approaching and politicians have started talking tough. The ball is in the People's court:<br />

Senator Ahmed Zanna, who is representing Borno Central Senatorial zone 
has berated the Presidency over its inability to galvanize enough 
political will and military power to rescue the abducted Chibok girls, 
stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan has not made sincere effort 
to release the girls.<br />

Consequently, Senator Zanna has urged Nigerians to think twice before 
2015 as any attempt to re-elect Jonathan as President in 2015 will lead 
to total collapse of the country, describing his government as the most 
irresponsible, especially in security matters, in the history of 
Nigeria.<br />

Senator Zanna, who spoke while addressing members of the

 that, “I did my own investigations and whenever I say anything, it will
 be the truth and nothing but the truth, I don’t know where we are going
 to place this government in the history of Nigeria or Africa. </div>

The PDP Senator from Borno state said, “In the history if Nigeria, we 
have never had a more irresponsible government like the one we have now.
 <span style="color: #cc0000;">When this incident happened they played politics first before action</span>."<br />

Also speaking, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno North, said: "The 
National Assembly especially the members from the North East, we are 
trying to stay away [from you people] because one of the things that is 
now common with the government [of Jonathan] is to say that anything 
that one does is opposition sponsored. <span style="color: #cc0000;">This government is so allergic to criticism that anything you do is opposition</span>.<br />

“Why we came here today is to join you in pushing and making the 
government to bring back our girls now and alive. We are with you. 
People of Borno generally, Chibok and the Northeast are with you in 
this. We are trying to come and learn from you, we want to do something 
like save our state or save our people and we will also sit until they 
save our states in the Northeast because we no longer have states. Apart
 from us, there are so many internally displaced persons from Chibok, 
Gwoza, Bama and lots more who want to join your campaign.<br />

“<span style="color: #cc0000;">Yesterday some girls were abducted from Bama</span>.
 I want to say now, that you should include that government should bring
 back all the girls and not just the Chibok girls, while the government 
has not brought back those girls, more are being abducted.<br />

criticism, because if you know somebody’s problems then you will know 
how to handle him, please handle this allergic government with care so

I Don't Know Who Among My Two Boyfriends Got Me Pregnant

I am a Senior Secondary student in a boys/girls school. I got d*flowered
 by one of my classmates during an inter-house sports competition in the
 school. Although it was kind of painful in the beginning but I ended up
 enjoying it. And since that day, it has become a routine between us.<br />

But recently, another boy came to our school; from the first day, I set 
my eyes on him, I felt something deep inside of me for him prompting me 
to ask him out. I allowed him to sleep with me on that day. It was so 
much fun and excitement that I decided that I wanted him more than my 
former boyfriend. This led to the two of them fighting and would have 
become a scandal if my second boyfriend didn’t walk away.<br />

 June 1st. as at that time, I was having s*x intermittently with the two
 of them since my first boyfriend was still adamant. I only stopped 
about two weeks ago after which he forced me to having s*x with me.<br />

Unfortunately, when you dropped the letter with a member of our staff, 
you elected not to give us your address or telephone number. Had you 
done that, it would have been easy for me to contact you.<br />
<br />
However, the first thing is for you not to drink that herbal mixture 
your friend gave you. If you drink it, you may not live to tell the 
story or achieve your dream in life despite your wish to die.<br />
<br />
Taking your own life will not end your sorrows; as a matter fact, it 
will only increase it because right now, it isn’t just your life alone. 
There is a child inside of you who has the right to life irrespective of
 how you feel about it.<br />
<br />
If you don’t want to live for yourself; what about that child who has 
nothing to do with your decision to have s*x with its father(s) without 
protection? Although you may think the child has no feelings yet, but 
try to remember your feelings at being neglected by your parents to 
appreciate the rights of that child growing inside you.<br />
<br />
You have made one costly mistake don’t make another one by thinking of 
dying. If you have this child, you won’t be the first person to have a 
child at your age.<br />
<br />
If at the age of 15, you are already in SS 2, it means you are 
intelligent with a very promising future. It would be such a sad story 
to see you waste your life or dreams in your attempt to procure an 
abortion at all cost.<br />
<br />
Condemnable as your conduct is, the harm has been done. It is pointless 
punishing you over what you could have done or not. I am sure your 
parents would rather battle with the shame of it all than have you dead 
in the course of you finding a solution on your own.<br />
<br />
No matter how unattractive this option is, they remain your best 
solution to this mess. They have the experience and knowledge on how to 
proceed from where you stopped.<br />
<br />
Let them know the mess you are in. Yes, doubtless they would be 
disappointed, pained and embarrassed at how far you have gone, but the 
truth remains that you need them now more than ever before.<br />
<br />
Whatever the attitudes of your parents are, especially that of your 
father,  you are their daughter hence owe you some sorts of protection. 
They don’t have to like what you have done; no parent of a teenage child
 will ever be happy at the risk you have put your entire future as well 
as the mess to their reputation, but they are the only ones you can turn
 to now.<br />
<br />
In the first instance, you are still a minor so cannot afford to take 
this important decision on your own. Unless you go to a quack or 
patronize peddlers of local herbs, no registered doctor will risk his 
certificate to perform an evacuation on you without the express 
permission of your parents.<br />
<br />
Because you lack the quantum of experience and knowledge, get someone to
 urgently tell your mother about your situation; someone she respects 
and has the wisdom of approach.<br />
<br />
For your kind of father, beyond the issue of your getting pregnant is 
the important issue of his ministry. Sad as this may sound but given the
 picture you have painted it is true.  So if they get to find out early 
enough; they would be forced to consider all available options before 
the shame becomes too late to manage.<br />
<br />
Besides, your wish to die is easier said than done. You are saying this 
because you are agitated and afraid of the consequences of your actions.
 Once your parents come with a rescue plan, you will suddenly have the 
urgent need to want to live again.<br />
<br />
As for who the father of the child is, I can't say as you were concurrently having s*x with both of them.<br />
<br />
This is what would hurt your parents more than even your being pregnant.
 One thing is to assume that this your pregnancy was a mistake another 
thing is to be confronted with your waywardness.<br />
<br />
<br />
To protect yourself from public ridicule, don’t even attempt to pin it 
on any of the boys. By the time you put to bed and a DNA is done, the 
paternity of the child would be revealed; making it difficult for the 
man responsible to deny or mock you.<br />
<br />
I am also sure that like most young girls, you plan to get married some 
day. For this simple reason don’t do anything that will affect your 
productivity as a woman in future. The woman’s womb is the tenderest 
part of her body. Once damaged, it cannot be replaced despite 
advancement in technology.<br />

So be careful the kinds of risks you take at this delicate stage of your life. Be guided!</div>

 have a serious matter at hand that I want to share. In fact, I should 
have shared this long ago, but the primary message from a friend that 
prompted the matter, was lost in between the series of inbox messages 
from those strange girls that are looking for romantic friendships on 
Facebook.<br /><br />In a nutshell, a lady friend sent me an inbox message 
on how it's harder to find a good man in Nigeria. And that the men who 
are "manageable" (her words, not mine) are so scarce and if you ever get
 them they are either married to a lady that does not deserve them or 
just repenting from a bad marriage from one of such women. Or even just 
lost faith in the whole marriage thing.<br /><br />I later ran into her at a
 club. After the usual introductions that have become common place with 
these social media network of friends... (You are my friend on twitter, 
Facebook, Tango, INSTAGRAM... That kind of thing).... I chatted with her
 a bit and found out from what she told me, that, many women are now 
settling for anything in between MR Right, MR Not just ok and MR Nearly 
right. As she put it, it's now a case of looking at what a guy checks 
out in the top 10 box... And if he has 3 out of 10, snap him up... Work 
on the rest 7, if you are lucky, you can get him to add 3 more of those 
top10 qualities... And begin to pray it lasts for as long as you both 
can manage.<br /><br />Much as I tried, to get her to rate me, she said, she
 can only rate someone who is on her radar. So ladies have relationship 
radar? Yes of course. You think you were not in Mary's radar, and she 
waited for you to come back after you... ? Ouch!!! (That was my guy who 
was listening in on our private conversation) I wasn't on Mary's 
radar.... I managed to mutter. Then she fooled you wellllll. She quickly
 added.<br /><br />It got me thinking... What does a man need to show to get
 on any woman's radar? Money, sense of humor, fame, dress sense, good 
job, intelligence, good diction, good physique, some visible signs of 
affluence, confidence,... She let me continue for a while, raised her 
glass of Henessy VSOP, downed it, and said, "He must first be AVAILABLE.
 Then you can begin to check out the rest." So I asked, do I look 
available? She said, "Of course, to the people who do not care if you 
are married, you are very available! Not to me, OOO. Mary was my boss at
 Platinum. So that strikes you out." So I asked the next possible 
question, "so what can I do to look unavailable?" There is nothing. You 
are even an easy pick. She added. Any man who has a source of income, 
popular, dresses well, tall, handsome small sef, has a car, is in the 
circles of successful people, looks like he has potentials to become 
somebody important and can pay the bills...<br /><br />Our conversation 
started having K-leg when she lit a cigar, not cigarette, Cuban cigar 
and started smoking. I took a good look at her, and realized that, these
 women who are looking for a MR Right all over Lagos, may just have met 
him but he is also looking for a woman who doesn't drink alcohol or 
smoke anything at all. That is the wahala. As you are looking for MR 
right, he might be dodging you because you are all shades of wrong...<br /><br />While
 you are looking waiting for a guy to walk in and fit into your radar, 
you are doing some things that also confine you to the "never my type"

"The vehicle said to be conveying the dogs to the scene reportedly broke

An optimistic South West Spokesman of the National Emergency Management 
Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, however said; ‘’All things being equal,
 the rescue operation will be concluded by say 2.00pm tomorrow 
(Today).’’<br />
This is as the death toll rose to 59,with the recovery of additional five dead bodies between 5am and 5.35pm yesterday.<br />
However during the course of search and rescue, electrical items under 
the debris , according to the Lagos State Fire Service, resulted in a 
fire outbreak.<br />
As at 1.40pm, excavation work was close to the second floor where 
majority of the victims were believed to have been trapped. But locating
 their exact positions became a challenge, as some of the rescue workers
 told Vanguard that there was every likely hood that the excavator might
 cause more damage if proper care was not taken.<br />
Meanwhile, 24 hours after the visit of Governor Babatunde Fashola to the
 scene of the collapsed building, SCOAN as gathered, was yet to produce 
the approval for the collapsed building.<br />

It would be recalled that during the visit, the Lagos State Commissioner
 for Physical planning, Mr Toyin Ayinde, revealed that the 5-storey 
building had no government approval for its construction.<br />
<br />
Ayinde who said records in his office showed that no permit was handed 
to the civil engineers for the building to be erected, however added 
that he was awaiting the church engineers to present the building permit
 they were given to erect the collapsed building.<br />
<br />
As at 7pm, yesterday, Vanguard gathered that SCOAN was yet to make 
available names of those who lodged in the collapsed building.</blockquote>

over the federal government’s directive to schools to resume on 
September 22, against the October 12 date given in consideration of the 
Ebola Virus Disease in the country.</span></span><br /><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"></span></span><br /><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">According to Leadership, the 
minister said the results were being reviewed by the education ministry,
 because of the “haphazard” nature of the situation caused by Boko

LASU students again ‘seal’ Fashola’s office

Activities
 at the office of the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, were 
yesterday paralyzed by students of Lagos State University External 
System,LASUES, over alleged fraudulent practices by the school 
authorities and mass failure by the students.<br /><br />This came barely a 
month after Fashola reversed the tuition fee for the students to 
N25,000. However, the external system students were excluded from the 
fees cut.<br /><br />The students defied the scorching sun to storm Alausa 
secretariat office of the governor at about 10.00 am and barricaded the 
entrance, demanding that Governor Fashola meet their demands before they
 would vacate the premises.<br /><br />Vehicles that approached the governor’s office during the period were forced to turn back.<br /><br />The
 students, who were armed with placards, some of which read: ‘APC 
government has failed us’; ‘Lack of proper academic calendar, missing 
scripts and withheld results, increment in tuition and poor management, 
Fashola please save us’.<br /><br />The students said in three years, LASUES
 had only conducted three examinations which the protesters said was not
 in tune with global practices in education.<br /><br />According to them, 
“students who gained admission into the system in 2008/2009 are still in
 500 level, first semester when their five-year academic studies should 
have ended in 2012.<br /><br />“Also, thousands of 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 set do not have admission letters but they pay their tuition fees yearly.<br /><br />“Thousands
 of LASUES students pay for their identity cards yearly but they are not
 given. We have written several letters to the Vice Chancellor, 
Professor John Obafunwa and the Director of LASUES, Professor Abanikanda
 but they have turned deaf ears to our complains.’’<br /><br />The students 
in addition demanded reduction in tuition fee from N68,700 to N38,700 
for 500 level, and N75,700 to N45,700 for students in 400 level and 
N95,700 to N65,700 for those in 300 level.<br /><br />According to them, less than five per cent of the cumulative 40,000 students record passes each time they sit for examinations.<br /><br />Identity card<br /><br />Speaking
 on behalf of the students, Mr. Abolaji Azeez, the Speaker of the 
Student Representatives Council, LASUES, lamented that over seven of his
 courses were still missing, noting: “I do not have identity card to 
show that I am a student of the institution. And I pay yearly for the 
issuance of the card.”<br /><br />Another student, Miss Omobolanle Bakare, a
 500 level student, said: “I am yet to see my 100 level result despite 
paying N110,000 as tuition. It is annoying that four years after, the 
school could not say where my results are. So, I cannot calculate my 
Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA.”<br /><br />Mr. Justice Okosun said: “It is only in LASU that one writes exams without knowing the lecturer which is abnormal.”<br /><br />Efforts
 by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Students 
Affairs, Mr. Hakeem Animashaun to pacify the protesting students proved 
abortive as they demanded to speak with the governor.

Consultants Hospital, where the index Ebola case in Nigeria Patrick Sawyer was
treated and died.<br />

She is one of the brave doctors who worked alongside senior
consultant Dr. Stella Adadevoh. She treated Sawyer, found him
dead and not surprisingly contracted the deadly Ebola virus from him.

complaints of fever and body weakness. The male doctor on call admitted him as
a case of malaria and took a full history. Knowing that Mr Sawyer had recently
arrived from Liberia, the doctor asked if he had been in contact with an Ebola
patient in the last couple of weeks, and Mr. Sawyer denied any such contact. He
also denied attending any funeral ceremony recently. Blood samples were taken
for full blood count, malaria parasites, liver function test and other baseline
investigations. He was admitted into a private room and started on
anti-malarial drugs and analgesics. That night, the full blood count result
came back as normal and not indicative of infection.</i></div>

requested to see a doctor. I was the doctor on call that night so I went in to
see him. He was lying in bed with his intravenous (I.V.) fluid bag removed from
its metal stand and placed beside him. He complained that he had stooled about
five times that evening and that he wanted to use the bathroom again. I picked
up the I.V. bag from his bed and hung it back on the stand. I told him I would
inform a nurse to come and disconnect the I.V. so he could conveniently go to
the bathroom. "</i></div>

Adadevoh came in contact with him:</b></div>

and went straight to the nurses’ station where I told the nurse on duty to
disconnect his I.V. I then informed my Consultant, Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh about the
patient’s condition and she asked that he be placed on some medications.</i></div>

<i>The following day, the
results for HIV and hepatitis screening came out negative. As we were preparing
for the early morning ward rounds, I was approached by an ECOWAS official who
informed me that Patrick Sawyer had to catch an 11 o’clock flight to Calabar
for a retreat that morning. He wanted to know if it would be possible. I told
him it wasn’t, as he was acutely ill. Dr. Adadevoh also told him the patient
could certainly not leave the hospital in his condition. She then instructed me
to write very boldly on his chart that on no account should Patrick Sawyer be
allowed out of the hospital premises without the permission of Dr. Ohiaeri, our
Chief Medical Consultant. All nurses and doctors were duly informed.”</i></div>

<b>How Dr Adadevoh
saved Nigeria from the virus:</b></div>

<i>During our early morning
ward round with Dr. Adadevoh, we concluded that this was not malaria and that
the patient needed to be screened for Ebola Viral Disease. She immediately
started calling laboratories to find out where the test could be carried out.</i></div>

<i>She was eventually
referred to Professor Omilabu of the LUTH Virology Reference Lab in Idi-Araba
whom she called immediately. Prof. Omilabu told her to send blood and urine
samples to LUTH straight away. She tried to reach the Lagos State Commissioner
for Health but was unable to contact him at the time. She also put calls across
to officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and National Centre for Disease
Control.</i></div>

was in a pensive mood. Patrick Sawyer was now a suspected case of Ebola,
perhaps the first in the country. He was quarantined, and strict barrier
nursing was applied with all the precautionary measures we could muster. Dr.
Adadevoh went online, downloaded information on Ebola and printed copies which
were distributed to the nurses, doctors and ward maids. Blood and urine samples
were sent to LUTH that morning. Protective gear, gloves, shoe covers and face
masks were provided for the staff. A wooden barricade was placed</i><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>at the entrance of the door to
keep visitors and unauthorized personnel away from the patient.</i></div>

24th July, I was again on. At about 10.00pm Mr. Sawyer requested to see me. I
went into the newly created dressing room, donned my protective gear and went
in to see him. He had not been cooperating with the nurses and had refused any
additional treatment. He sounded confused and said he received a call from
Liberia asking for a detailed medical report to be sent to them. He also said
he had to travel back to Liberia on a 5.00am flight the following morning and
that he didn’t want to miss his flight. I told him that I would inform Dr.
Adadevoh. As I was leaving the room, I met Dr. Adadevoh dressed in her
protective gear along with a nurse and another doctor. They went into his room
to have a discussion with him and as I heard later to reset his I.V. line which
he had deliberately removed after my visit to his room.</i></div>

July, I got a call from the nurse that Patrick Sawyer was completely
unresponsive. Again I put on the protective gear and headed to his room. I
found him slumped in the bathroom. I examined him and observed that there was
no respiratory movement. I felt for his pulse; it was absent. We had lost him.
It was I who certified Patrick Sawyer dead. I informed Dr. Adadevoh immediately
and she instructed that no one was to be allowed to go into his room for any
reason at all. Later that day, officials from W.H.O came and took his body
away. The test in Dakar later came out positive for Zaire strain of the Ebola
virus. We now had the first official case of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria.</i>”</div>

<i>“It was a sobering day. We
all began to go over all that happened in the last few days, wondering just how
much physical contact we had individually made with Patrick Sawyer. Every
patient on admission was discharged that day and decontamination began in the
hospital. We were now managing a crisis situation. People were talking
Ebola everywhere – on television, online, everywhere. I soon started
experiencing joint and muscle aches and a sore throat, which I quickly
attributed to stress and anxiety. I decided to take malaria tablets. I also
started taking antibiotics for the sore throat. The first couple of temperature
readings were normal. Every day I would attempt to recall the period Patrick
Sawyer was on admission – just how much direct and indirect contact did I have
with him? I reassured myself that my contact with him was quite minimal. I
completed the anti-malarials but the aches and pains persisted. I had loss of
appetite and felt very tired.</i>”</div>

<b>Testing positive to
Ebola and moving to the Isolation ward in Yaba:</b></div>

<i>“The following day, Sunday
3rd of August, I got a call from one of the doctors who came to take my sample
the day before. He told me that the sample which was they had taken was not
confirmatory, and that they needed another sample. He did not sound very
coherent and I became worried. They came with the ambulance that afternoon and
told me that I had to go with them to Yaba. </i></div>

<i>We soon got to Yaba. I
really had no clue where I was. I knew it was a hospital. I was left alone in
the back of the ambulance for over four hours. My mind was in a whirl. I didn’t
know what to think. I was offered food to eat but I could barely eat the rice.</i></div>

<i>The ambulance door opened
and a Caucasian gentleman approached me but kept a little distance. He said to
me, “I have to inform you that your blood tested positive for Ebola. I am
sorry.” I had no reaction. I think I must have been in shock. He then told me
to open my mouth and he looked at my tongue. He said it was the typical Ebola
tongue. I took out my mirror from my bag and took a look and I was shocked at
what I saw. My whole tongue had a white coating, looked furry and had a long,
deep ridge right in the middle. I then started to look at my whole body,
searching for Ebola rashes and other signs as we had been recently instructed.
I called my mother immediately and said, “Mummy, they said I have Ebola, but
don’t worry, I will survive it. Please, go and lock my room now; don’t let
anyone inside and don’t touch anything.” She was silent. I cut the line.”</i></div>

<b>Life at the Isolation
ward</b>:</div>

“<i>I was taken to the female
ward.</i><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>I was s<i>hocked at
the environment. It looked like an abandoned building. I suspected it had not
been in use for quite a while. As I walked in, I immediately recognized one of
the ward maids from our hospital. She always had a smile for me but not this
time. She was ill and she looked it. She had been stooling a lot too. I soon
settled into my corner and looked around the room. It smelled of faeces and
vomit. It also had a characteristic Ebola smell to which I became accustomed.
Dinner was served – rice and stew. The pepper stung my mouth and tongue. I
dropped the spoon. No dinner that night.</i></div>

<i>Dr. David, the Caucasian
man who had met me at the ambulance on my arrival, came in wearing his full
protective ‘hazmat’ suit and goggles. It was fascinating seeing one live. I had
only seen them online. He brought bottles of water and ORS, the oral fluid
therapy which he dropped by my bedside. He told me that 90 percent of the
treatment depended on me. He said I had to drink at least 4.5 litres of ORS
daily to replace fluids lost in stooling and vomiting. </i></div>

<i>My parents called. My
uncle called. My husband called crying. He could not believe the news. My
parents had informed him, as I didn’t even know how to break the news to him.</i><br />
<i>As I lay on my bed in that isolation ward, strangely, I did not fear for my
life. I was confident that I would leave that ward some day. There was an inner
sense of calm. I did not for a second think I would be consumed by the disease.
That evening, the symptoms fully kicked in. I was stooling almost every two
hours. The toilets did not flush so I had to fetch water in a bucket from the
bathroom each time I used the toilet. I then placed another bucket beneath my
bed for the vomiting. On occasion I would run to the toilet with a bottle
of ORS, so that as I was stooling, I was drinking.</i></div>

<i>The next day Monday 4th of
August, I began to notice red rashes on my skin particularly on my arms. I had
developed sores all over my mouth. My head was pounding so badly. The sore
throat was so severe I could not eat. I could only drink the ORS. I took
paracetamol for the pain. The ward maid across from me wasn’t doing so well.
She had stopped speaking. I couldn’t even brush my teeth; the sores in my mouth
were so bad. This was a battle for my life but I was determined I would not
die.</i></div>

<i>Every morning, I began the
day with reading and meditating on Psalm 91. The sanitary condition in the ward
left much to be desired. The whole Ebola thing had caught everyone by surprise.
Lagos State Ministry of Health was doing its best to contain the situation but
competent hands were few. The sheets were not changed for days. The floor was
stained with greenish vomitus and excrement. Dr. David would come in once or
twice a day and help clean up the ward after chatting with us.</i></div>

<i>He was the only doctor who
attended to us. There was no one else at that time. The matrons would leave our
food outside the door; we had to go get the food ourselves. They hardly entered
in the initial days. Everyone was being careful. This was all so new. I could
understand, was this not how we ourselves had contracted the disease?
Mosquitoes were our roommates until they brought us mosquito nets.”</i></div>

<i>“Later that evening, Dr.
David brought another lady into the ward. I recognized her immediately as
Justina Ejelonu, a nurse who had started working at First Consultants on the
21st of July, a day after Patrick Saywer was admitted. She was on duty on the
day Patrick reported that he was stooling. While she was attending to him that
night, he had yanked off his drip, letting his blood flow almost like a tap
onto her hands. Justina was pregnant and was brought into our ward bleeding
from a suspected miscarriage. She had been told she was there only on
observation. The news that she had contracted Ebola was broken to her the
following day after results of her blood test came out positive. Justina was
devastated and wept profusely – she had contracted Ebola on her first day at
work.</i></div>

<i>My husband started
visiting but was not allowed to come close to me. He could only see me from a
window at a distance. He visited so many times. It was he who brought me a
change of clothes and toiletries and other things I needed because I had not
even packed a bag. I was grateful I was not with him at home when I fell ill or
he would most certainly have contracted the disease. My retreat at my parents’
home turned out to be the instrumentality God used to shield and save him.”</i></div>

<b>Her Pastor's prayers
and her daily spiritual routine:</b></div>

“<i>I drank the ORS fluid
like my life depended on it. Then I got a call from my pastor. He had been
informed about my predicament. He called me every single day morning and night
and would pray with me over the phone. He later sent me a CD player, CDs of messages
on faith and healing, and Holy Communion packs through my husband. My pastor,
who also happens to be a medical doctor, encouraged me to monitor how many
times I had stooled and vomited each day and how many bottles of ORS I had
consumed. We would then discuss the disease and pray together. He asked me to
do my research on Ebola since I had my iPad with me and told me that he was
also doing his study. He wanted us to use all relevant information on Ebola to
our advantage. So I researched and found out all I could about the strange
disease that has been in existence for 38 years. My research, my faith, my
positive view of life, the extended times of prayer, study and listening to
encouraging messages boosted my belief that I would survive the Ebola scourge.</i></div>

<i>There are five strains of
the virus and the deadliest of them is the Zaire strain, which was what I had.
But that did not matter. I believed I would overcome even the deadliest of
strains. Infected patients who succumb to the disease usually die between 6 to
16 days after the onset of the disease from multiple organ failure and shock
caused by dehydration. I was counting the days and keeping myself well
hydrated. I didn’t intend to die in that ward.</i></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; line-height: 14.25pt; orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<i>My research gave me
ammunition. I read that as soon as the virus gets into the body, it begins to
replicate really fast. It enters the blood cells, destroys them and uses those
same blood cells to aggressively invade other organs where they further
multiply. Ideally, the body’s immune system should immediately mount up a
response by producing antibodies to fight the virus. If the person is strong
enough, and that strength is sustained long enough for the immune system to
kill off the viruses, the patient is likely to survive. If the virus replicates
faster than the antibodies can handle however, further damage is done to the
organs. Ebola can be likened to a multi-level, multi-organ attack but I had no
intention of letting the deadly virus destroy my system. I drank more ORS. I
remember saying to myself repeatedly, “I am a survivor, I am a survivor.”</i></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; line-height: 14.25pt; orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<i>I also found out that a
patient with Ebola cannot be re-infected and they cannot relapse back into the
disease as there is some immunity conferred on survivors. My pastor and I would
discuss these findings, interpret them as it related to my situation and pray
together. I looked forward to his calls. They were times of encouragement and
strengthening. I continued to meditate on the Word of God. It was my daily
bread.”</i></div>

<i>To contain the frequent
diarrhea, I had started wearing adult diapers, as running to the toilet was no
longer convenient for me. The indignity was quite overwhelming, but I did not
have a choice. My faith was being severely tested. The situation was desperate
enough to break anyone psychologically. Dr. Ohiaeri also called us day and
night, enquiring about our health and the progress we were making. He sent
provisions, extra drugs, vitamins, Lucozade, towels, tissue paper; everything
we needed to be more comfortable in that dark hole we found ourselves. Some of
my male colleagues had also been admitted to the male ward two rooms away, but
there was no interaction with them.</i></div>

<i>I kept encouraging myself.
This could not be the end for me. Five days after I was admitted, the vomiting
stopped. A day after that, the diarrhea ceased. I was overwhelmed with joy. It
happened at a time I thought I could no longer stand the ORS. Drinking that
fluid had stretched my endurance greatly.</i></div>

<i>I knew countless numbers
of people were praying for me. Prayer meetings were being held on my behalf. My
family was pra</i>y<i>ing day and night. Text messages of prayers flooded my
phones from family members and friends. I was encouraged to press on. With the
encouragement I was receiving I began to encourage the others in the ward. We
decided to speak life and focus on the positive. I then graduated from drinking
only the ORS fluid to eating only bananas, to drinking pap and then bland
foods.”</i></div>

<i>“It was a great blow and
my faith was greatly shaken when Nurse Justina died on the 12th of August. I
commenced daily Bible study with the other two female patients and we would
encourage one another to stay positive in our outlook though in the natural it
was grim and very depressing. My communion sessions with the other women were
very special moments for us all. On the evening of the day Justina passed on,
we were moved to the new isolation centre. We felt like we were leaving hell
and going to heaven. We were conveyed to the new place in an ambulance. It was
just behind the old building.</i></div>

<i>Time would not permit me
to recount the drama involved with the dynamics of our relocation. It was like
a script from a science fiction movie. The new building was cleaner and much
better than the old building. Towels and nightwear were provided on each bed.
The environment was serene.</i></div>

<i>The following night, Dr.
Adadevoh was moved to our isolation ward from her private room where she had
previously been receiving treatment. She had also tested positive for Ebola and
was now in a coma. She was receiving I.V. fluids and oxygen support and was
being monitored closely by the W.H.O doctors. We all hoped and prayed that she
would come out of it. It was so difficult seeing her in that state. I could not
bear it. She was my consultant, my boss, my teacher and my mentor. She was the
imperial lady of First Consultants, full of passion, energy and competence. I imagined
she would wake up soon and see that she was surrounded by her First Consultants
family but sadly it was not to be.”</i></div>

<b>Overcoming Ebola</b>:</div>

“<i>I continued listening to
my healing messages. They gave me life. I literarily played them hours on end.
Two days later, on Saturday the 16th of August, the W.H.O doctors came with
some papers. I was informed that the result of my blood test was negative for
Ebola virus. If I could somersault, I would have but my joints were still
slightly painful. I was free to go home after being in isolation for exactly 14
days. I was so full of thanks and praise to God. I called my mother to get
fresh clothes and slippers and come pick me. My husband couldn’t stop shouting
when I called him. He was completely overwhelmed with joy. I was told however
that I could not leave the ward with anything I came in with. I glanced one
last time at my cd player, my valuable messages, my research assistant a.k.a my
iPad, my phones and other items. I remember saying to myself, “I have life; I
can always replace these items.”</i></div>

<i>I went for a chlorine
bath, which was necessary to disinfect my skin from my head to my toes. It felt

Argentina poured the bucket of chlorinated water all over me. I wore a new set
of clothes, following the strict instructions that no part of the clothes must
touch the floor and the walls. Dr. Carolina looked on, making sure I did as
instructed.</i></div>

<i>I was led out of the
bathroom and straight to the lawn to be united with my family, but first I had

liberated after many years of incarceration. I was like someone who had fought
death face to face and come back to the land of the living.</i></div>

<i>We had to pass through
several stations of disinfection before we reached the car. Bleach and chlorinated
water were sprayed on everyone’s legs at each station. As we made our way to

the old isolation building. I could hardly recognize it. I could not believe I
slept in that building for 10 days. I was free! Free of Ebola. Free to live
again. Free to interact with humanity again. Free from the sentence of death.</i></div>

<i>My parents and two
brothers were under surveillance for 21 days and they completed the
surveillance successfully. None of them came down with a fever. The house had been

isolation centre. I thank God for shielding them from the plague.</i></div>

<i>My recovery after
discharge has been gradual but progressive. I thank God for the support of

heroines who lost their lives in the cause to protect Nigeria. They will never
be forgotten</i>.</div>

some die and some survive? Why do bad things happen to good people? Where is
God in the midst of pain and suffering? Where does science end and God begin?
These are issues we may never fully comprehend on this side of eternity. All I
know is that I walked through the valley of the shadow of death and came out

Soyinka, has once again condemned the Good luck Jonathan administration, laying
emphasis on the recent #bringbackjonathan2015 campaign slogan and

committee of another nation, and even appear in audience, to all appearance a
co-host with the president of that nation?</em></div>

Yesterday, Nicki Minaj, who is without a question, one of the most successful women in the entertainment business, <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">revealed</span> to her followers that she had wanted to visit her former high <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD5">school</span> and speak with the students, however she was declined by the principal.  She wrote:<br />

 I wanted to go back to my HS and speak to the students but the principal declined.  That school
 change my life and I wanted to pay it forward to the students there 
now.  I was really looking forward to it. I guess I’m not good enough…</blockquote>
She also revealed that the new principal was a woman. <span id="more-283491"></span>, which led some to believe that her <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">decision</span> may have been based on “Anaconda” and its single cover. After Nicki revealed
 her disappointment on Twitter, her Barbz flooded the school’s social 
media and phone lines in support and were about two seconds from drawing
 up <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD10">petitions</span>, however, the school’s principal cleared the air.<br />
 In a letter, sent to all of the students’ parents, she wrote:<br />

Dear LaGuardia Community, It has been brought to our 
attention that Nicki Minaj is attempting to generate publicity for

Mars, and LaGuardia Arts High School. The fact is that Ms. Minaj was told by the NYC <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD6">Department of Education</span> (DOE) that she would not be allowed to enter the school
 with a television crew. The DOE has policies in place to protect the 
privacy and security of all its students. I’m sure we all appreciate the
 strict enforcement of these policies with regard to the safety of our 
children.</blockquote>
In a nutshell, the principal may have allowed her to speak, if it 
wasn’t being filmed. Nicki is currently filming webisodes that she 
releases to her fans each week to give a peek into her life. It can be 
assumed she had plans to post the footage as part of an upcoming 
segment. </div>

National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said the
help of five police sniffers dogs will be needed to assist in locating trapped
victims as they are getting closer to areas suspected to have more trapped
people. As at noon, Monday, the death toll from Friday’s disaster has risen to
46 from 17 which was the official figure declared by NEMA.</div>

The commissioner of police have ordered the release of the dogs,
which NEMA spokesman, Farinloye says will help in early conclusion of the
operations, as they will help to detect trapped victims faster. </div>
