While Fayose was said to  have depended on commercial motorcyclists and some civil servants for  support, Fayemi depends on the elite and professionals, among others.  Bamidele relies on some factions of the APC and the PDP.<br /><br />Fayemi’s deputy, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, who is from the Ekiti Central,  also makes the APC candidate to be popular in the senatorial district.<br /><br />Fayemi’s popularity in Ekiti North Senatorial District, where he hails from, is also an advantage to him.<br /><br />Investigation has, however, shown that the three major parties would  share votes in Ado, Ikere, Efon and Irepodun-Ifelodun local government  areas.<br /><br />While PDP was also said to be popular in Ise-Orun and Ikole local  government areas, APC is a major dominant party in Ekiti West and Ijero  local government areas.<br /><br />In Emure Local Government Area, LP is a dominant party, while APC and  PDP are popular in Ekiti East and Oye local government areas.<br /><br />The LP is likely to also share votes with PDP in Ido-Osi Local  Government Area, but in Gboyin, Moba and Ekiti South-East local areas,  APC and PDP will slug it out in their attempts to win votes.<br /><br />The investigation, however, revealed that APC would carry the day in Ilejemeje Local Government Area.<br /><br />The governorship candidates have, however, carried their campaign trains  to various organisations, groups and individuals to seek support.<br /><br />The candidates have also visited traditional rulers in their various palaces for royal blessing.<br /><br />They promised effective leadership through the initiation and implementation of robust and people-friendly policies.<br /><br />During their various campaigns, the candidates listed areas that would  occupy their priorities with emphasis on workers’ welfare and investment  in education.<br /><br />For instance, Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress  during the week took to Twitter in the last leg of his campaign for  second term in office. Fayemi brought to fore the achievements recorded  by his administration in the first term.<br /><br />He tweeted, “Dear Ekiti people, it is four days to that day when we have  to choose wisely. Let’s remember it’s one man, one vote as we cast our  votes.<br /><br />“For almost four years now, my team and I focused on restoring public confidence in government by putting the people first.<br /><br />“We put the people first in development planning and execution by interacting with them on what their needs are.<br /><br />“We reformed governance on the basis of openness, transparency,  selfless-service, priority and accountability in the management of  public funds.<br /><br />“The results are there for all to see in the programmes and social welfare that we have delivered so far.<br /><br />“I am inspired by those of you who strongly believe in the values of honour and integrity to continue to cast your lot with us.”<br /><br />To seek sustained royal blessing, the APC candidate promised to continue  to accord the welfare of Ekiti traditional rulers an utmost priority  for them to perform the task of ensuring peace and stability in the  state.<br /><br />He stated this early in the week in Ado Ekiti while presenting vehicles  to Attah of Ayede-Ekiti, Oba Mumini Orisagbemi, and the Olupole of  Ipole-Iloro, Oba Oladele Babatola.<br /><br />Represented by his Special Adviser, Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Aderemi  Ajayi, Fayemi said all the monarchs in the 131 towns in the state were  presented vehicles by his administration in 2013 with the exemption of  the two traditional rulers, who had not ascended the throne at that  time.<br /><br />During last weekend rally organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress and  the Trade Union of Congress in his support, the APC candidate promised  workers that his government would promote their welfare. <strong>A 28-year-old woman, Joy Godspower who allegedly murdered her  lover has has been remanded in Prison custody by an Ebute Meta Chief  Magistrates' Court in  Lagos.</strong><br />  <br /> According to report, the woman had met the deceased one Dipo Omobolanle, 32, on his way and offered him a ride.<br />  <br /> On that fateful day of the incident, both of them had agreed to engage in s*xual int*rcourse.<br />  It was during the romp that the man became unconscious and eventually died.<br />  <br /> Addressing the court, the Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, said the  offence was committed on May 21 at 10 a.m. at No 1, Oluwole St., Cele,  Lagos.<br /><a name="more"></a><br />  <br /> The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.<br />  <br /> The plea of the accused who is facing a murder charge was not taken by the court.<br />  Presiding over the case, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Olatunbosun  Abolarinwa, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison  custody, pending an  advice from the Lagos State Director of Public  Prosecutions.<br />  <br /> The case was adjourned to July 17 for mention.<br />  <br /> Meanwhile the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the  Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary, Ikeja for autopsy.<br />  <br /> It would be recalled that a middle aged man had reportedly died after  having s*xual int*rcourse with his lover in a hotel in Iwaro-Oka, Akoko  local government area of Ondo state.<br />

<b>Delegates at the ongoing National Conference on Thursday  unanimously agreed to death penalty for anybody convicted of r*pe  charge.</b><br /><br /><b><img alt="" border="0" data-x-src="http://img.naij.com/n/09/9/national_conference_09.jpeg" data-zoom="1" height="180" hspace="5" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/09/9/national_conference_09.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="320" /></b><br /><sup><b><i>National Conference Delegates</i></b></sup><br /><br />The delegates sitting at Plenary, however, gave the option of life  imprisonment with hard labour to rape convicts in order to serve as  deterrent to people with r*pe tendencies. <br /><br />The decision was taken following the recommendations by the Bola  Ogunrinade- led Committee on Civil Society, Labour, Youths and Sports.  <br /><a name="more"></a><br /><br />A mild drama, however, occurred during the deliberations as Bolaji  Akinyemi, who is the Vice Chairman of the Conference, asked Asabe Baba  Nahaya, a delegate representing National Association of Women  Journalists (NAWOJ), to go out from the plenary. The action was  propelled by her refusal to use her tag in the plenary of the Conference  during consideration of Committee report.<br /><br />But as security personnel, a policeman and an official of the  Department of State Security (DSS) approached the delegate to walk her  out, former PDP women leader and former Minister of Women Affairs, Iyom  Josephine Anenih, quickly intervened to bring the situation under  control.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the Conference delegates turned down the committee's  recommendation to allocate 30 per cent of decision making in the country  to youths, as well as the recommendation asking government to phase-out  Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>A small European country of Liechtenstein has agreed to  return over N37bn in equivalent (€167m / $227m) stolen by the late  military rule General Sani Abacha, Financial Times reports.</strong><br /><br />This decision ends Nigeria's longest running battle to recover money  that the late military dictator laundered through European banks.<br />The saga started in 2000, when Nigeria first requested assistance of  the tiny (population is about 37,000 people), but incredibly rich county  (GDP per capita is 2nd in the world) in recovering the assets  transferred out of the country by Gen. Abacha.<br /><a name="more"></a> <br />But the recovery process has not been easy. Companies linked to  Abacha's family put lots of legal obstacles. Liechtenstein's  constitutional court dismissed a final appeal over the return of the  funds in March 2013, which infuriated the Minister of Finance, Ngozi  Okonjo-Iweala, who accused Liechtenstein of "aiding and abetting  corruption".<br /><br />However, an official statement by Liechtenstein's government dated June 17, 2014, Tuesday, read:<br /><blockquote>"In May 2014, the complaint pending in Strasbourg was withdrawn by  the four Abacha companies, clearing the path for repatriation of the  assets once and for all."</blockquote><br />Criminal investigations and subsequent forfeiture proceedings  established that the Lichtenstein funds originated from bribes paid by  Germany's Ferrostaal AG to companies whose ultimate beneficiary was  Abacha. They related to a grossly inflated contract for the construction  of an aluminium smelter.<br />So far, Nigeria has recovered $1.3bn, the largest tranche of which -  $500m - came from Switzerland in 2005. A further $1.1bn - in France, the  UK, Luxembourg and the Channel Island of Jersey - is still tied up in  legal proceedings.<br /><br />In the beginning of March 2014 the <strong>United States ordered a freeze of $458m in assets</strong> stolen by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha and his accomplices.<br /><br />In a surprising development, the government <strong>dropped embezzlement charges against Mohamed Abacha</strong>, the late dictator's eldest son, who was accused of receiving N100bn ($600m) of the late dictator's money. </div>
