<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi believes one  of five African representatives at the ongoing 2014 World Cup in Brazil  could end up winning the football showpiece.</strong><br /> <br /><br />Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire are the five  African countries in Brazil and all the teams are expected to face stiff  competitions from the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany and others.<br /> However, Keshi said his team's chances should not be underestimated.<br /> Asked how close he felt Africa was to winning the Cup for the first time, he did not hesitate: "Very close.<br /> "Because they (the African sides) are good. As good as any other  teams that are here. I think this tournament is an open tournament. They described their hotel as  isolated which makes them look like prisoners unlike other World Cup  teams whose Federations lodged them in better and more ideal places.<br /> <br />David Mark was said to have listened attentively as they tabled their  grievances, after which he appealed to the coaches and the players to  put aside anything that would distract them from victory, while also  reassuring them of the determination of President Goodluck Ebele  Jonathan to give them the necessary support in the tournament to make  Nigeria proud.<br /><a name="more"></a><br /> <br />He however chastised the Nigeria football assocition (NFF) for not settling the issue of appearance fee promptly.<br /> <br />There are fears that if the players request are not met, it might  dash whatever hope Nigerians have for the national team to do well in  Brazil 2014 world cup.<br /> <br />The whole country is looking forward to the Nigerian footballers' first game against Iran in the Mundial on Monday. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>Kadré Ouédraogo, the president of ECOWAS Commission has sent  an urgent message to three teams representing the Sub-region at the 2014  FIFA World Cup in Brazil.</strong><br /> <br />  <img alt="" border="0" data-zoom="0" height="225" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/0b/8/president_of_ecowas_commission_kadr_ou_draogo_.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="400" /><br />  <em><strong>Kadré Ouédraogo, the president of ECOWAS</strong></em><br />  <br /> The commission, in statement issued on Friday in Abuja, by its  spokesperson, Sunny Ugoh, urged the ECOWAS representatives at the World  Cup, comprising Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana to excel in the  tournament.<br />  <br /> The commission said that the president tasked the teams to surpass the quarter-finals record of African teams at the Mundial.<br />  <br /> The statement said that Ouédraogo in a goodwill message to Africa's  five representatives encouraged ``Team ECOWAS'' to aspire for excellence  through professionalism.<br />  <br /> He charged them to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and do the continent proud.<br />  <br /> The commission assured the teams that the entire community and its  more than 350 million people were solidly behind them as they fly the  region's and Africa's flags in Brazil.<br />  <br /> The statement further added that the commission's president wished  Cameroon and Algeria, the two other Africa representatives, good luck at  the Mundial.<br />  <br /> "With hard work, discipline and dedication, African flag bearers  could bring the coveted trophy to the African soil for the first time in  the World Cup history" Ouédraogo said.  <br /> <br />The World Cup kicked off on Thursday with 32 nations participating</div>
