Nigeria To Get Back N37bn Of Abacha's Loot From Liechtenstein

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>A small European country of Liechtenstein has agreed to return over N37bn in equivalent (€167m / $227m) stolen by the late military rule General Sani Abacha, Financial Times reports.</strong><br /><br />This decision ends Nigeria's longest running battle to recover money that the late military dictator laundered through European banks.<br />The saga started in 2000, when Nigeria first requested assistance of the tiny (population is about 37,000 people), but incredibly rich county (GDP per capita is 2nd in the world) in recovering the assets transferred out of the country by Gen. Abacha.<br /><a name="more"></a> <br />But the recovery process has not been easy. Companies linked to Abacha's family put lots of legal obstacles. Liechtenstein's constitutional court dismissed a final appeal over the return of the funds in March 2013, which infuriated the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who accused Liechtenstein of "aiding and abetting corruption".<br /><br />However, an official statement by Liechtenstein's government dated June 17, 2014, Tuesday, read:<br /><blockquote>"In May 2014, the complaint pending in Strasbourg was withdrawn by the four Abacha companies, clearing the path for repatriation of the assets once and for all."</blockquote><br />Criminal investigations and subsequent forfeiture proceedings established that the Lichtenstein funds originated from bribes paid by Germany's Ferrostaal AG to companies whose ultimate beneficiary was Abacha. They related to a grossly inflated contract for the construction of an aluminium smelter.<br />So far, Nigeria has recovered $1.3bn, the largest tranche of which - $500m - came from Switzerland in 2005. A further $1.1bn - in France, the UK, Luxembourg and the Channel Island of Jersey - is still tied up in legal proceedings.<br /><br />In the beginning of March 2014 the <strong>United States ordered a freeze of $458m in assets</strong> stolen by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha and his accomplices.<br /><br />In a surprising development, the government <strong>dropped embezzlement charges against Mohamed Abacha</strong>, the late dictator's eldest son, who was accused of receiving N100bn ($600m) of the late dictator's money. </div>

Historic Buildings With Present Relevance

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>Buildings are countless, and while some are more impressive than others, there are a few buildings that are so jaw-droppingly amazing that you cannot help but marvel at how such creations came into being.</strong><br /><br />Here are 6 really amazing structures;<br /><br /><strong>COLOSSEUM (Italy)</strong><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/0c/3/colosseum_2.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/01/7/colosseum_1.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /></div>'Maximus, Maximus, Maximus!' could audibly be heard in the CGI-created colosseum in the film Gladiator.<br /><a name="more"></a> The Colosseum also an amphitheatre was built in Rome, Italy under Emperor Vespian and his succesor Titus from 70 AD- 80 AD. With over 50,000-80,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladatorial contests, public spectacles like mock sea battles, animal hunts, execution, dramas, and recently concerts etc. On a humorous note, the amount of lives lost there is enough for ghosts to haunt Rome for a lifetime.<br /><strong><br />TOWER OF LONDON (England)</strong><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/08/f/tower_of_london_viewed_from_the_river_thames.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /></div><br />Founded in 1078 by William the conqueror, the Tower of Liberty, a historic castle on the north bank of River Thames, is a resented symbol of oppression inflicted upon London by the ruling elite. Serving as a royal residence early in history, it was also used as a prison from 1100-1952. Incredible! Not only that, it had the reputation for torture and death. Interestingly, guys, Elizabeth I was a victim before she became queen.Well, as you would expect, it's now turned to a money-making venture or what you would refinedly call a tourist attraction.<br /><strong><br />THE FORBIDDEN CITY (China)</strong><br /><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/01/f/the_forbidden_city_2.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /><br /><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/0b/10/forbidden-city.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /><br /><br /><br />Up until recently, I only knew of the forbidden fruit, apparently there is a forbidden city, too. How  astounding! Built from 1406-1420, the forbidden city was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Quing dynasty which now houses the palace museum and occasionally serves as performance venue. The forbidden city was the residence of the terrestial Emperor and his family, and was regarded such because no one could enter or leave the palace without the Emperor's permission. I tell you, guys, no theory can prove otherwise that these Emperors were chronic sadists.<br /><br /><strong>EIFFEL TOWER (France)</strong><br /><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/07/b/eiffel_tower_1.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /><br /><br />If you are scared of heights like me, don't attempt to consider this place as tourist destination or honeymooning visit. Why? Standing at a staggering 1063 ft.equal to an 81 storey building located on the Champ de Mars in Paris France and named after Gustave Eiffel (whose company was in charge of the project), it ranked as the tallest structure in the world for 41yrs. It is the most visited paid monument in the world. What's more, it has 3 levels for visitors to ascend with restaurants on the first and second floor. Ascension can either be done through stairs or elevator.<br /><br /><strong>TAJ MAHAL (India)</strong><br /><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/01/6/taj-mahal-10-480x360.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /><br /><br />Finished in 1953 by 22,000 people, the Taj Mahal (crown of places) stands in awe of anyone who beholds it. This monument is even more impressive in that it takes different colouring at different times of the day, from a pinkish hue in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden at night when lit by the moon. Built in the memory of the emperor's third and most favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal took 17 years to be completed. Quite amazing is that the death of his favourite wife so crushed the Emperor that all his hair and beard were said to have grown snow white within a few months (well, he should have known better when he attempted to turn his wife into a baby making factory and create a football team through her as she died delivering their 14th child). Unbelievable! I'm particularly moved by the love-thingy part though; whatever 'efo riro' (vegetable) that that woman gave this man, I'd really love to have a taste and whatever love potion he was given, it certainly worked wonders.<br /><strong><br />GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA (Egypt)</strong><br /><strong><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/07/c/gizapyramid.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /></strong><br /><br /><img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="360" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/03/5/great-pyramid-of-giza.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="640" /><br />Being the oldest of the Seven wonders of the Ancient world, and the only one to remain largely intact, the Great pyramid of Giza is a solid masterpiece that was built with such accuracy that the current technology can not replicate it. Concluded in 2560 BC, it was the tallest structure in the world for 3,800 years. More incredible is the mortar used in the construction which, along with some architectural work, makes it possible for it to withstand any earth quake or heat expansion. I could just imagine our senators doing their usual gladatorial contest in this pyramid from the upper chamber to the lower chamber.<br /><br /><br /><strong><em><span class="c1">- by Kalejaye Abayomi</span></em></strong></div>

A MUST READ: Impact Of Social Media On Relationships

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>No doubt, social media has come to stay in our lives as a powerful tool of communication and even in our personal relationships, helping minds alike to stay connected, spread information and share stories with one another.</strong><br /> <br /> But it is surprising how this key factor to a good relationship also can be a severe cause of bitterness and separation in relationships.<br /> <img align="middle" alt="" border="0" data-zoom="1" height="180" hspace="5" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/02/2/messymedia3.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="320" /><br /> <div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Helen, a pained housewife said; "my husband always holds his Iphone and keeps checking for notifications and also plays stupid games while laying down on the bed. While our president, Goodluck Jonathan encouraged them to bring the trophy home, the Senate president, David Mark has also charged the Super Eagles to operate with the "never-say-die" spirit typical of a Nigerian and go on to win the 2014 coveted World Cup in Brazil.<br /><a name="more"></a><br /><br />The head coach of the Eagles has told Nigerians not to use the friendlies to judge the performance of the Eagles as they have reserved all their energies for the main match and not mere friendlies.The most beautiful girl in Nigeria, Anna Banner has also shown support for the Super Eagles in her own little way while Mercy Ajisafe, an OAP, popularly known as omo London went ahead to strip down just to tease our Super Eagles to victory.<br /><br />With these encouragements and more, Nigerians are still of the opinion that mixing up of home-based players with foreign ones at this last minute, not minding whether they blend well or not might be a huge mistake. Countries That Allow Or Forbid Their Players To Have S*x During World Cup

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<b>While World Cup fans enjoy watching their favorite teams on the soccer field, they stay oblivious about what players do in between games.</b><br />
<br />
There are certain nations that either allow their teams to be engaged in s*xual activity or completely ban to hop in bed with whomever they want during the World Cup.<br />
<br />
So which hot soccer studs can get it on while heating up Brazil?<br />
<br />
<b>Countries That Allow Their Teams to Engage in S*x:</b> Germany, Spain, USA, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Uruguay and England<br />
<br />
<b>Countries That Completely Ban S*x:</b> Russia, Chile, Mexico, and Bosnia and Herzegovina<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6589160015449763735" name="more"></a><br />
<br />
However, the World Cup s*x rules aren't black-and-white. For some nations' teams, it's complicated.<br />
For example, French players can only have s*x if it doesn't last all night (if soccer stars have one thing it's stamina!), while the Nigerian team can have s*x if it's with their wives (sorry, no girlfriends). As for Brazil, a country known for hot bods, Brazilian players are allowed to get jiggy with it as long as it's not acrobatic (come again?).</div>

Ado Bayero’s Sons Visit The New Emir Of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><strong>The hidden feud between the newly-appointed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the first son of his predecessor late Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero continues, as Sanusi Ado Bayero has allegedly refused to join his siblings, who paid the first courtesy visit to the new emir.</strong><br /><br /><br /> <img alt="" border="0" data-x-src="http://img.naij.com/business/politics/0a/2/sanusi-emir1.jpg" data-zoom="1" height="180" hspace="5" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/business/politics/0a/2/sanusi-emir1.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="320" /><br /> <strong>* The new Emir of Kano welcomes his guests at the emir's palace. Sanusi Ado Bayero reportedly left the country immediately, after as it has became clear that he had lost the race for succeeding the throne.<br /><a name="more"></a><br /> <br />The visit on June 14, 2014, Saturday, means that the Bayero's would not challenge Sanusi's appointment and coronation. On the other hand, the absence of main contender for the throne reminds a one historical analogy. <br /> <br />Vanguard recalls that a similar scenario played itself up when late Bayero emerged as the Emir of Kano 51 years ago.<br /> <br />Aminu Sanusi, father of the new emir, was Ciroma Kano in 1963, when the kingmakers chose Ado Bayero as the emir. He had never paid a solidarity visit to Ado Bayero until his death.<br /> <br />However, absolute majority of late emir's children completed the courtesy visit. The ex CBN boss had to wave the tradition according to which "the emir does not hold court weekends" to receive the following visitors:<br /> <br />Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, District Head of Dala; Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, District Head of Nasarawa; Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, District Head of Fagge; Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero, District Head of Sumaila and Alhaji Aliyu Ado Bayero, District Head of Kunchi.<br />  The Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim, was also in attendance.<br /><br />Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero spoke to DailyTrust via phone from Abuja on June 16, 2014, Monday. The Ciroma of Kano urged the people of his state to embrace peace, but did not comment on the big Saturday's visit by his siblings. <br /><br />It would be recalled that Alhaji Ado Bayero passed away on June 6, 2014, Friday. The first son of the late emir was one of the favourites to ascend his father's throne. <br /> <br />However, the expectations were broken, as the kingmakers announced the immediate past Central Bank Governor, <strong>Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the new Emir of Kano</strong> on June 8, 2014, Sunday. The process and consultations with Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso lasted for two days.<br /> <br />On the following day, <strong>Kwankwaso granted the letter of appointment to Sanusi</strong> at the Government House in Kano amidst protests near the emir's palace and neighbouring area. The newly-elected emir was <strong>barred from entering his palace for four days</strong> since his election.<br /> <br />It would be added that a delegation of Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, was at the emir's palace in Kano on June 16, 2014, Monday, to pay homage to Muhammadu Sanusi II. The head of the delegation and Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Hassan Danbaba, passed sincere greetings to the new monarch on his appointment as the 14th emir of Kano.</div>

UNBELIEVABLE: Top Oslo Imam Involved In Axe Attack While Returning From Mosque

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<b>The imam of Oslo's main mosque, Nemat Ali Shah, was reported to have been attacked with axe by unknown assailant as he returned home from the Central Jamaat Ahle-Sunnat mosque in the centre of the Norwegian capital late on Monday.</b><br />
<br />
AFP reports that the 57-year-old clergyman was recuperating in hospital on Tuesday after a masked assailant repeatedly h*cked him, causing him serious wounds to his face and hands.<br />
<div>
<br />
It was gathered that the religious leader was in a stable condition on Tuesday after undergoing an operation on Monday night, and was soon to be discharged from hospital. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
Police on the matter told newsmen on Tuesday that they were treating the attack as a murder attempt, but stressed that they did not yet know whether the attack was a hate crime carried out by anti-Islamic extremists, or somehow tied up to his position at the mosque. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
"It is too early to say anything about it," Grete Lien Metlid, head of the violent and s*xual crimes unit at the Oslo police said in a press conference. "It may be a hate crime, but we have no evidence to say anything more about that now, or about whether the attack was linked to his work as an imam."</div>
<div>
</div>
<img alt="" border="0" data-zoom="0" height="180" itemprop="image" src="http://img.naij.com/151x85c/n/04/10/jumat_pix.jpg" style="margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px;" vspace="5" width="320" /><br />
<b>* Inside the Central Jamaat Ahle-Sunnat mosque in Oslo, Norway</b><br />
<br />
Metlid noted that there had been clashes in 2005 and 2006 over his position as imam, which had previously led to violence. She said that she hoped police would be able to start questioning Shah later today. <br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6589160015449763735" name="more"></a><br />
<div>
</div>
<div>
However, there are confusion if the Imam had been attacked with an axe or a knife, as the police officer stated it was "a sharp object". </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Police said that the attacker had been wearing a green and black jacked, a hooded top, blacking jogging pants and white and grey shoes. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
According to Aftenposten newspaper, Shah was attacked after he left his home 50 metres from the mosque to go and lead the evening prayers.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
When he did not show up, those gathered to pray tried calling his mobile phone and raised the alarm when he did not answer. By that time, he had already been able to crawl back into his home, where he was picked up by an ambulance. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Ghulam Sarwar, the mosque's chairman, said that Shah had been hit on one side of his face, and wounded under one eye. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
"He also had injuries to his fingers and hands, which suggests that he tried to defend himself with his fists," Sarwar told Aftenposten.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
It was gathered that the mosque has been both the focus of internal conflict within the Muslim community, and attacks by far-right, anti-Islamic extremists.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Last September, a pig's head was left outside the mosque on Friday, the day most Muslims go to pray. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The same month, another of Oslo's mosques, The World Islamic Mission mosque, received an email threatening a campaign of mosque-burning across Norway</div>

What to Do To Gain Admission Successfully and Avoid Disappointment

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Firstly, I want to cease this medium to congratulate all the candidates who did well probably by scoring at least 160 and above in the just concluded JAMB UTME exams, as we all know how Nigeria Institutions place their cut-off marks yearly. Also, I want to apologize for not being able to update this article on time; this is simply because I was waiting for the CBT candidates to round-up their long term UTME type of examination.<br /> <div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">Just as I took my time to update the first episode of this article last year, I am very grateful to announce to you that it yielded a very resounding success, and I am convinced to take this as my yearly contribution of success to every proposed admission candidate in Nigeria. Despite the testimonies, warm greetings and mind-blowing messages I got from this writing last year, I am still not satisfied until I update this year’s episode. I give Almighty God all the glory for prompting me to doing this as a piece of contribution.</div><div style="color: black;">Nevertheless, I want enlighten you on what to do as we all are eagerly waiting to hearing this year’s cut-off marks and the commencement of Post-utme exams in various institutions across the Nation. I have pondered over this post countless times and finally decided to share with it you guys. Have you asked yourself…what if I scored 250-300 and did not get admitted this year? Well, let’s know what would be the solution to this ‘may occur’ problem.</div><a name="more"></a><br /> <div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• Always thank God for making your result a successful one and pray over your forthcoming post-utme result to be ‘far better’ than the Jamb score. Please, make this your daily prayer point. With God all things are possible.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• Endeavour to make Gurusloaded.com your companion as a student to enable you gather some necessary and vital informations on the happenings in various schools. As for me, Guruzwap.net is my ultimate.<br />Secondly, do not miss to browse on your school of choice’s website every.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• READ YOUR BOOKS REGULARLY, READ RELENTLESSLY: I learnt that many of us spend more time on social networks such as; Facebook, 2go, Whatsapp, BBM, eskimi etc instead of studying past questions or browsing on educational websites or more so, engaging themselves with Myschool’s Test Portal to regain more knowledge. Many candidates also think that their high Utme mark will gain them admission; though it happened the previous years but I think we should embrace our books the more and be more serious with our studies since there are too many aspirants competing for same ground with you.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• TAKE ANY CHANCE: Some schools may open their post-utme application to everyone with a little extra cost. This is more favourable to aspirants who have chosen highly rated schools like UNN, UNILAG, UI, UNILORIN and some other Federal Schools. You really need this information because your dream school might disappoint you. Do not waste any chance this year neither put your eggs in one basket.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• INSTITUTION AND COURSE PREFERENCE: It is obvious that employment nowadays in Nigeria does not go with the certified course. I found out that this is the area candidates make a bunch mistakes, meanwhile I advise every candidate to accept any course or institution he/she is admitted into unless you have a gainful alternative. Nobody knows the Will of God.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">• SUPPLEMENTARY ADMISSION: Many candidates fail to apply for supplementary admission while they wait either for the 2nd, 3rd or last list of admission as some schools choose to release their(s). I encourage you to not waste any opportunity this year. Remember, wasted chances may come back to hurt you.</div><div style="color: black;">With the practice of the above points, I believe we all will get to our various destinations in Jesus’ Name. Amen.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">You are allowed to add more points using the comment box below.</div><div style="color: black;">Thanks as you read, and expect more from me.</div><div style="color: black;"><br /></div><div style="color: black;">I remain your trusted guy,<br />__________________________________<br />IKUEWUMI OLUWASEUN</div></div>
