President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday night held a meeting with other Nigerian leaders to discuss how to secure the safe return of the over 200 girls who were abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno by Boko Haram.

The meeting which held at the residential Villa in Abuja, also discussed how to resolve the Boko Haram insurgency which has been plaguing the nation.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
The meeting which lasted for about an hour over dinner, was attended by former Nigerian leaders, Ernest Shonekan, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, and Shehu Shagari.
The Borno state governor was also present at the meeting.
The former leaders were said to have pledged to do everything they can to support Mr. Jonathan and the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, to find the girls and resolve the Boko Haram insurgency.
A former military ruler, Ibrahim Bab-angida sent his apologies for being absent as he could not attend the meeting because of the death of Awaisu Kuta, the senator representing his constituency, who died on Thursday.

Also absent was former President Olusegun Obasanjo though no reason was given for his absence.
The schoolgirls have been missing for close to 2-months now.
Their abduction attracted worldwide outrage and several foreign countries including the U.S. and the U.K. have been assisting Nigeria in efforts to rescue them.
