Fayose tells Ekiti workers, No September Salary For Now

<br /> Civil servants and teachers in Ekiti State agitating for the payment 
of their outstanding September salaries got a piece of bad news from the
 state chief executive on Friday.<br /><br />
Governor Ayo Fayose told them to forget the payment of the salary at least for now.<br />

The governor who disclosed his decision while featuring on his 
monthly media chat, “Meet Your Governor”, said the precarious financial 
situation of the state would not allow him to pay workers September 
salaries.<br />

Fayose also revealed that governors of Jigawa, Adamawa and Katsina 
States sent rams and cows to him as part of their contributions to his 
“stomach infrastructure” agenda for Christmas celebrations.<br />

He explained that he took the step in his desire to make Ekiti people
 happy and ensure that they do not go hungry during the festive season.<br /><br />
While urging workers in the state to exercise patient with his 
administration, Fayose emphasized that the financial position of the 
state is so bad to the extent that he had reached an agreement with some
 banks to give the state what he called “financial leeway” for six 
months to enable him pay salaries.<br /><br />
The governor explained that the deductions from the allocation of the
 state from the Bond sourced by the last administration and commercial 
loans obtained from banks had adversely affected the state finances.<br />

Fayose pointedly told civil servants, teachers and other government 
workers to stop complaining and adjust themselves to the prevailing 
realities maintaining that he would not be deceiving them on issues 
affecting governance.<br /><br />
He said, “I became governor on October 16 and that is two months and 
ten days now and I want to state categorically that I have managed 
resources of the state very well.<br /><br />
“Now coming here to tell the people that I will pay September 
salaries, no, no, I will not say that. The salaries I am paying now, I 
had interface with banks to give me leeway for six months to be able to 
arrange myself, “Fayose declared</div>

The Independent National Electoral 
Commission (INEC)  is in a fix  about a possible run-off  in the 
presidential election  between the two leading candidates, General 
Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan.</div>

The 2010 Electoral Act (as amended) 
stipulates the organisation of  a run-off  within seven days of a  
presidential election, if  there is no outright winner at the  first 
ballot.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sources at INEC now say  seven days are 
too short   to prepare for a run-off in respect of the presidential or 
governorship election.</div>

There is already a proposal to amend that section of the Electoral Act at the National Assembly since 2012.</div>

 between President Goodluck Jonathan (PDP) and Gen. Muhammadu

The  timetable for the 2015 poll 
published by the Secretary to INEC, Mrs. Augusta  Ogakwu, on January 4, 
2014 included a caveat for run-off.</div>

It said: “Note: Run-off election to the 
Office of President or Governor of a state (if any) will be held within 
seven days after the announcement of the result of the election in 
accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of 
Nigeria(FRN).”</div>

Another key official of INEC said: “The 
more the process becomes credible, the likelihood of a presidential 
run-off. But INEC management is in a fix on how to go about the 
presidential run-off, if it becomes necessary for the nation to go

“The seven-day gap between when the 
presidential election will hold and the run-off is not feasible for us 
to print ballot papers, result sheets and distribute the sensitive 
election materials nationwide.</div>

“In 2011, we did anticipatory printing 
of ballot papers for presidential run-off, but some people/groups wrote 
petitions against INEC. They said we printed run-off ballot papers ahead

“They also accused INEC of wasting 
taxpayers’ money on run-off ballot papers when the poll did not hold. 
Some of our officials were taken to the Force Criminal Investigation

“With this nasty experience, INEC will 
not want to print presidential run-off ballot papers in advance again. 
It has learnt its lessons in a hard way.</div>

National Assembly for the amendment of the seven-day clause in the 
Electoral Act for more days to prepare for any run-off.</div>

Assembly is yet to effect the amendment. This kind of lapse can lead to 
more electoral challenges in 2015.</div>

Oh yes. It was a six-month tour. We went to Canada, Trinidad, Cannery 
Island, Algeria and so many other countries. We went to Brazil, 
Argentina as well. I went with my band members and it was very 
successful.</blockquote>
<b>So the foreign crowd still identify with afro beat music?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Oh yes. We had a good time and the fans had a good time. Music is music 
anywhere and it has a universal language. I don’t think race or 
nationality impacts on music. It has got nothing to do with tribe. If it
 is good, people will love it and they would dance and sing. Music has 
nothing to do with feelings or language. We left in March and came back 
in May for 10 days and left again till we came back in November. I had 
to cancel some shows to be able to come back because I was tired. Offers
 kept coming but I couldn’t keep touring. I was exhausted. I was 
performing almost four times a week for almost 24 weeks. I was 
physically exhausted.</blockquote>
<b>But you hardly get engagements in Nigeria, why?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I don’t know. I come back here to rest because I don’t get jobs here. I 
don’t understand it as well. At times, I am saddened by it because it is
 just a shame. It is not even about me but the band which has the 
pedigree of being a big band. But just for political reasons, we are 
being excluded. I believe afro beat should be in high demand in Nigeria,
 Fela did a lot for Nigerians. I watch the shows here and it is not as 
if they are better than what I do.</blockquote>
<b>Don’t you think you are not invited to perform here in Nigeria because your songs are so controversial?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
In America, political artistes hardly get shows. The entertainment 
industry is highly corporate these days. Artistes are no longer 
artistes, they are businessmen. You hear them calling themselves 
‘brands’ and such names. Most of them that are famous no longer have the
 artistic spirit. The spirit is feared in corporate world. The real 
artiste cannot be dictated to. They want people they can tell how to 
dress and what to sing. Artistes who play political music are totally 
ignored these days. It is not only in Nigeria. It is normal that 
Nigerian establishments fight back against me. But why I am not happy 
about this is just because of The Shrine. Even if people think my 
brother and I are not making good music, I think Fela has done enough 
for this country for people to support the Shrine. But they give stupid 
reasons that the Shrine is dangerous.</blockquote>
<b>But is it not?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
It is not! The Shrine has never experienced a case of robbery except 
once when we invited Fuji people to come and perform there. I don’t want
 to name the artiste but at that show, they were robbing people even in 
the toilet. Apart from that, there’s no other case of robbery.</blockquote>
<b>Is it not high time you switched to the other side?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
There is no benefit in ‘the other side.’ I have been playing music since
 I was eight years old and that is like 23 years ago. I respect the few 
artistes who have toed that line and maybe, made it. But they eventually
 became pastors. These are people like Ebenezer Obey and Kris Okotie. 
The other ones are those who praise-sing people who can be their 
children just because they want to make money from them. I don’t want 
that to be my portion.</blockquote>
<b>Is it right to say that you are controversial just because your 
father was and in your quest to be like him, you try to emulate him in 
all things?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I don’t think I am even controversial. The society is morally bankrupt, 
so they find truth as controversial. I try as much as possible to be 
myself all the time. Being Fela’s son is part of who I am. If someone as
 great as Fela is your father, it is very likely that he would influence
 you. I don’t owe anybody any explanation for that. I have never made 
decisions because I want to be like my father. In fact, my father never 
encouraged us to make decisions like that. We were taught to accept who 
we are in its entirety. A big part of my individuality is that I am 
Fela’s son, what can I do? I just say things the way they are. One day, I
 wore a suit for my video and the next thing I read about me was, 
‘Controversial artiste turns his back against his father, wears a suit.’</blockquote>
<b>How old were you when he died?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I was almost 15 when he died.</blockquote>
<b>What kind of a father was he?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Fela didn’t beat his children; that wasn’t his style. He said he didn’t 
like his father because his father used to beat him. He didn’t beat us 
because he didn’t want us to ‘hate’ him the way he ‘hated’ his father. 
He used to talk to us to correct us and we would listen. He believed so 
much in talking and he could talk to you for close to two hours, which 
you wouldn’t want again.</blockquote>
<b>You said you started playing music at the age of eight, couldn’t you have chosen to do another thing but music?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Growing up, I thought of doing so many things apart from music. I was 
really good in school. I didn’t need to read to pass my exams. I could 
have done an intellectual job. I could have been an Economist. That was 
basically my dream. I was the captain of my high school football team. I
 love football a lot. I still play the game.</blockquote>
<b>So why didn’t you go professional?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I could have but my uncle told me that professional footballers retire 
in their 30s and that all the good coaching jobs are taken. So, I would 
probably be bored for the second half of my life. That is why old 
footballers get fat. This brought me to the other love that I had which 
is music. I love music. My parents never asked me to play music. Maybe 
it was out of love for music and a bit of naivety that made me get into 
music.</blockquote>
<b>Hasn’t your music put you in trouble before?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
You only get into trouble when you do something that is against the law.
 My music cannot put me into trouble. This is democracy. They can only 
attack us economically.</blockquote>
<b>Did you watch your dad perform?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I used to go to all the shows with my dad. I saw his lifestyle. He made 
money; people loved him and his music. There were women everywhere. I 
felt it was the easiest job ever. But that was very naive. Music is not 
easy at all. I think a musician’s life is one of the hardest to live. We
 have to be perfect anytime we work. If a musician makes a mistake on 
the stage, that is the beginning of the end of his career. If you make 
it two or three more times, people will say you are not ‘tight’ on the 
stage.</blockquote>
<b>Can we ever see you and Femi collaborating?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Collaborations like that are money spinners. If we would collaborate, it
 is not because we want to do something great for music because we are 
already making great music individually. But if we do it, it would 
mainly be for financial reason. We agreed that as soon as we feel our 
career is slowing down and money is not coming as it should, we would 
jump into the studio and do a money spinner.</blockquote>
<b>Did you actually mean it when you said you weren’t going to get married even to the mother of your child?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I don’t believe in marriage. If I had wanted to be married, I would have
 been working towards it. People can decide what they want to do with 
their lives. I just don’t believe in that institution especially as it 
is set up today</blockquote>
<b>How do you mean?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I don’t like the idea of ‘ownership.’ Nobody has the right to own 
anybody. This is a capitalist idea so that people can make profit off 
love. You don’t make profit off love.</blockquote>
<b>What if the mother of your child decides to get married to someone else?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
She is free. If she wants to be married, then that is her choice. What 
will I do about it? Will I put a gun to her head and insist that she 
should not get married? But I know she will not do that because we have a
 strong bond and we understand each other and our partnership is great. 
We are raising a beautiful daughter and it would be a big surprise if 
she says she wants to get married to someone else.</blockquote>
<b>Do you miss your father?</b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
I miss him. He raised me. I grew up with him. It would be callous of me 
to say I don’t miss him. It would be a lie too. Lies are even worse than
 callousness. I wish I could have a conversation with him. It would be 
great if I could talk to him.</blockquote>

A Detroit teenager was taken off life support and died due to a gunshot 
wound caused by a friend playing with a handgun, police said.<br />

The station reports that a neighbor called Bernard a 'good kid,' and his
 mother, Theresa Culbert, described having to watch her son slip away.<br />
<br />
'He wasn't really doing good at all,' Culbert said. 'Just basically had to watch his brain die.'<br />
<br />
Both of Bernard's friends were taken into custody by police. <br />
<br />
Detroit Police Department spokesperson Jennifer Moreno told Detroit News
 police are holding the 19-year-old and will seek charges in connection 
to Bernard's death.<br />

Though the decision is up to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, 
Officer Moreno said the charge would likely be manslaughter or 
second-degree murder.

first lady, by the Ohuhu clan, her maternal home in Umuahia North Local
Government Area of Abia State today, Mrs Jonathan urged women to vote for
politicians who have the interests of women at heart and also urged them to
vote massively for her husband. </div>

 Season’s greetings to my teeming readers. Let me still serve you a 
morsel of politics even as we celebrate the joyous Yuletide season. The 
mood isn’t cheery because of the horror of senseless bloodletting by the
 Boko Haram insurgents, but life must go on, in the hope that things 
will get better in the New Year; even if they seem otherwise at the 
moment.Our politicians are self-serving and uncaring, but we are a 
resilient people who always ride out of every storm.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> The noisy 
campaigns of the Presidential nominations of the two major parties- the 
ruling PDP and the APC, appear to have eclipsed the nation’s top 
headliners of 2014, such as the Chibok girls abduction, and the random 
seizure of territories by the rampaging Boko Haram terrorists. Also 
submerged in the nomination hoopla are the impeachment of Governor 
Murtala Nyako and the defection of the five PDP governors that triggered
 it; Ayo Fayose’s upstaging of APC’s Kayode Fayemi in the Ekiti 
Governorship elections, the dramatic fall of crude oil price and its 
implications for our oil-dependent economy, and the recruitment exercise
 that left scores of young graduate job-seekers dead from stampedes.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
 All of these and other major headline news of 2014 may soon be a 
distant memory, but we can’t easily forget the failure of the national 
soccer team and defending champions, the Super Eagles, to qualify for 
the African Cup of Nations, the Air Force plane that was shot down by 
the Boko Haram insurgents and one of the pilots reportedly beheaded. 
Indeed, with its gruesome operations getting to new levels of cruelty, 
Boko Haram stretched our military to the limit, and exposed the decay 
and dismal state of our armed services. That was what came to light in 
2014, but must never be allowed to continue in 2015.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> The Ebola 
Virus Disease, EVD, came and was defeated, but not until after claiming 
the lives of some victims including Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh and other 
patriots; rather than plan how to prevent future resurgence, the APC and
 the ruling PDP were bickering over whom to credit with the arrest of 
the disease. Of course, 2014 produced its fair share of scandals and 
corruption in high places too numerous to mention.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Sad to recall,
 Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s private jet which was involved in the cash for
 arms scandal, was a major headline news about which I wrote a 
commentary, which provoked CAN’s response in pedestrian vulgarity, which
 I declined to nobilitate with a retort. The pain for Nigerians is the 
impunity with which perpetrators loot the treasury under the watch of 
President Goodluck Jonathan.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> President Jonathan and his 
strategists should be having a big laugh after a ‘hard-won’ battle that 
finally handed His Excellency an unprecedented sole candidacy of the 
ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 presidential 
elections, with a loud declaration at a rally on November 11, 2014. Gen.
 Mohammadu Buhari (Rtd) is flying the flag of the APC, having clinched 
the party’s ticket in closely fought primaries.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> The implication 
of Dr. Jonathan’s declaration on that day (11-11-2014)has occultic 
significance. When the number is repeated, it takes a greater 
ritualistic intensity. In this case, we have 11-11-11, because when you 
add the date 11-11-2014 as a year together, you arrive at 11 also. This 
is in consonance with occultic numerology.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> In the pre-natural 
world, the number 11 is a powerful occultic number: it represents 
judgment, destruction and death of man. Each digit in the 11-11-2014 
date, when added together, viz: 1+1+1+1+2+0+1+4, you get 11. That’s why 
the declaration was done on 11/11/2014, which is the highest level of 
occultic numerology. This sacred number in the occultic world 
demonstrates an appeasement of the powers of darkness to favour the 
supplicant. The name of satan in Latin is LVX. L is 50, V is 5 and X is 
10. When you add that together, you get 65. When you add 6 + 5, you get 
11. Satan’s number is 11.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> The question is; was this declaration 
orchestrated by occultic considerations, or is it a mere coincidence? 
Since 11 represents; judgment, destruction and death of man, can we 
extrapolate from the experiences of President Goodluck Jonathan’s 
administration so far that number 11 has been prevalent in our nation? 
Has there been spiritual judgment, has there been destruction and death 
on a large scale? You, be the judge.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> If the Church of Jesus 
Christ appreciates this understanding, they’ll be more reluctant to 
gravitate in the direction of President Jonathan, even though the 
leaderships of CAN and PFN have made a subtle endorsement of his 
candidacy. President Jonathan does not belong to the Davidic genealogy; 
he belongs to the house of Saul and invokes the spirit of Jeroboam. He 
swears by the Lord and Malcham. He that hath an ear let him hear.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
 Fixing all the fault lines of 2014 must begin with the management of 
the usual post-election crisis which is the hallmark of every transition
 in Nigeria. Whatever the outcome of the Presidential elections, the 
polity would likely quake as the vanquished beat the drums of war 
against the backdrop of grandstanding by the victors. If we have 
embraced a paradigm shift as I have suggested, Nigeria would have gone a
 different way.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Despite all of that, and the likely unpleasant 
fall-out of the forthcoming general elections, Nigeria will survive as 
usual. Expect threats of war, but surely, the Nigerian political class 
is too timid to roll out the tanks for battle, because, nobody would 
like to put his life on the line over a lost election. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Unfortunately, 
our gullible youths do not know this. They are usually the canon fodders
 who bear the brunt of the violence. The political elites use them to 
unleash on any post-election conflict, while the politicians and their 
cronies escape to safe havens where they enjoy their loot. Be that as it
 may, the voters have the final choice to make in these crucial 
elections.</span></span><br />
