We are running a stupid democracy in Nigeria, a system of government 
where only those in office are seen to be enjoying the good of the land,
 while the people they claim to be serving are starving.<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The cost of building many government houses in Nigeria is far higher 
than what it takes to build many universities in the country with some 
state houses gulping as high as nine times more than the cost of 
building a university. </blockquote>

It was also discovered that in many states where Billions of Naira were 
expended on building bogus and expansive state houses for the first 
families, universities owned by such state governments were in terrible 
conditions. </blockquote>

In addition to this, many programmes run by these state universities are
 yet to be accredited by the National Universities Commission, the 
regulatory agency for universities in Nigeria, due to lack of fund. || 
But these greedy governors always have Billions of Naira to building new

To accredit a programme for study in any university in Nigeria, there 
are minimum acceptable standards required by the NUC. They include 
availability of adequate facilities to run the programme as well as 
minimum number of staff both academic and non-academic.<br />
<br />
A former Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof Peter Okebukola,   said, 
‘’The requirements are essentially facilities and staff. Both need money
 to put in place. However, in the case of staff, a long-term investment 
is needed to procure quality staff.’’<br />
<br />
Depending on the number of programmes to be accredited, accreditation of
 courses, according to him, could gulp between N1.8bn and N2.7bn with 
science-based courses gulping more money than non-science based courses.<br />
<br />
But <a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/govt-houses-costlier-than-nigerian-universities/" target="_blank">PUNCH</a>
 investigations showed that some states that could hardly afford to 
spend as low as N800m on accreditation in their universities, spent 
billions of naira to build state houses for their families.<br />
<br />
In Bayelsa State for instance, a Government House Complex named “The 
Glory Land Castle” gulped at least N24bn. The edifice,   located in the 
heart of Yenagoa, the state capital, was initiated by former governors 
Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Timipre Sylva.<br />
<br />
The same state has begun the construction of a new Governor’s Office 
project at Government House, Yenagoa, at a cost of N3.8bn according to 
the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Lawrence 
Ewhrudjakpo.<br />
<br />
Justifying the cost of the project, he described the impressive edifice 
as one of the best in Nigeria and West Africa with a captivating 
aesthetic ambience.<br />
<br />
Paradoxically, there is high level of infrastructural decay at the Niger Delta University being run by the state government.<br />
<br />
The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Niger Delta 
University branch, Dr. Tuboukiye Sese, told one of our correspondents on
 the telephone during the week that lack of   infrastructure had been 
the major problem of the university.<br />
<br />
Sese said, “Honestly, the state of infrastructure at NDU is nothing to 
write home about. Successive administrations in the state have been 
neglecting the school.<br />
<br />
“When the incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson, paid a visit to the 
university recently, he saw things for himself. The structures in the 
permanent site of the institution are those provided by TETFUND 
(Tertiary Education Trust Fund). The governor then awarded contract 
worth N1.2bn. Unfortunately, up till now, nothing has been done.<br />
<br />
“In the university, internal roads are non-existent, office space is a sad development and student hostels are in poor state.”<br />
<br />
He lamented that due to absence of staff quarters, academic and 
non-academic workers alike operate from Yenagoa, the state capital, a 
journey of close to one hour.<br />
<br />
Though he could not be specific on the number of programmes in the 
university that are yet to be accredited, he recalled that many of the 
university’s programmes were not accredited during the last 
accreditation exercise.<br />
<br />
He said, “We lost quite a number of our programmes during accreditation.
 This development is giving us cause for concern. As it is, many 
lecturers risk losing their jobs because of the development as students 
will not want to go to a school where most of their programmes are not 
accredited.<br />
<br />
“The state government should help us in this direction. The university’s
 management is running round the clock and using its initiative to 
ensure the de-accredited courses are accredited.”<br />
<br />
In the same vein, the Kaduna State Government   has just completed a 
N9.6bn new Kaduna Government House/ Office Complex that was recently 
inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan. The state Governor, Alhaji 
mukhtar Ramalan Yero, said the project was executed in six phases.<br />
<br />
But shortly after the inauguration, medical students of Kaduna State 
University stormed the street to protest the non-accreditation of the 
institution’s medical courses by the NUC. They also protested poor 
conditions at the Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, which is supposed to 
be the university’s teaching hospital.<br />
<br />
The protesting students lamented that the Faculty of Medicine started 
since 2008/09 academic session and none of the students had gone beyond 
300 levels. According to them, the hospital’s ICU/dialysis centre has 
been abandoned; the pathology laboratory is not supplied with equipment;
 and all other works in various departments are moving at a very slow 
pace.<br />
<br />
The spokesperson for the Medical Students Association, Hassan Abu, who 
called on the state government to address the problem urgently, said a 
set of medical students had been transferred to Uganda to complete their
 studies due to inadequate facility at the Barau Dikko Specialist 
Hospital.<br />
<br />
The story is similar in Akwa Ibom State where the government constructed
 a State House with a sum of N16bn and a Banquet Hall with 500 seating 
capacity with the sum of N18bn. In other words, N34bn was spent on 
constructing a state house and banquet hall, according to the state 
Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Enobong Idem.<br />
<br />
PUNCH investigations showed that the state government had not been funding the Akwa Ibom State University adequately.<br />
<br />
It was learnt that the state government only released N1.5bn for 
construction projects, expansion and renovation of academic blocks, 
including the acquisition of laboratory equipment in the university.<br />
<br />
The government was said to have set up a task force headed by the 
Commissioner for Education, Prof Atim Antai, to execute the projects and
 guarantee their timely completion.<br />
<br />
The NUC between July and August accredited only 11 courses in the 
institution’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. Some of the 
courses are Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer 
Science, and Geology. Others are Marine Biology, Biotechnology, 
Microbiology, Botany and Zoology.<br />
<br />
Apart from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, the university 
also runs courses in other faculties like Business Administration, Arts,
 and Education, among others. But none of these other courses which are 
over 40 have been accredited.<br />
<br />
While Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in 2012 said his 
administration would spend N6bn on the building of a new Government 
House, Ekiti State former governor Kayode Fayemi borrowed N3.3bn to 
build a state house.<br />
<br />
Both governors justified the huge investment in building the state 
houses on the need to build befitting edifices for their states. 
Uduaghan had said, “The current Government House in Asaba has always 
been a temporary arrangement, not a permanent feature. But we cannot 
continue to live in a temporary accommodation. We have to do the right 
thing and do it well.’’<br />
<br />
But it was learnt that as of the time Fayemi spent N3.3bn on the state house, the state university was in terrible condition.<br />
<br />
According to the Student Union Government President of Ekiti State 
University, Babatope Ibitola, the institution lacks basic laboratory 
equipment. He said, “We still lack lecture theatres because the 
available ones are not sufficient. Our core sciences lack laboratory 
apparatus except the College of Medicine which is well equipped.” He 
appealed to the state government to hasten the accreditation process of 
the college of medicine.<br />
<br />
Investigations by PUNCH also showed that while it was convenient for 
states to budget billions of naira to build state houses,   governments 
did not make such bogus budgetary allocations towards establishment of 
new universities.<br />
<br />
For instance, the Federal Government provided just N2bn, about a quarter
 of what should ordinarily be needed, for the take-off of each of the 
nine universities it established three years ago.<br />
<br />
President Goodluck Jonathan approved N18bn for the nine universities. 
The sum was among others to assist them in developing their campuses as 
well as providing administrative blocks, libraries and Information 
Communications Technology centres. The nine federal universities are 
located in Jigawa, Katsina, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kogi, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, 
Ekiti and Taraba states.<br />

Providing insight into what it would cost to establish a new university,
 the Registrar, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, 
said a minimum of N7bn is required to establish a standard university in
 Nigeria.<br />
<br />
According to him, one of the NUC’s demands from promoters of private 
universities is that they must have 102 hectares of land. Adegbenro 
said, “This alone is expensive to acquire. Even if you are starting with
 two faculties, you will need to construct the faculty buildings. You 
need at least two halls of residence for the students; one for female 
and one for male.<br />
<br />
“You will also need to build a cafeteria, a library, administrative 
complex, banking halls, road networks and provide Information Technology
 facilities, among others. These are huge projects and that is why you 
need a minimum of N7bn to set up a good private university in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“You will also need to start with at least four professors; the 
principal officers and other personnel are also there. The NUC also 
requires that you must have at least N500m in your account before 
takeoff.”<br />
<br />
A former NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Peter Okebukola, said though 
there was no minimum amount specified in the commission’s guidelines for
 setting up a standard university, there are minimum facilities and 
human resources that should be available before a university is 
licensed.<br />
<br />
According to him, the minimum amount to set up a university can be 
estimated from the cost of such facilities and resources. He said the 
amount was N3bn in 2003, but it is about N5.5bn now.<br />
<br />
He, however, said Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State; Landmark 
University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State; American University of Nigeria, Yola,
 Adamawa State; and Afe Babalola University had a cost range of between 
N7bn and N12bn at take-off.<br />
<br />
The former NUC executive secretary, however, said it would cost more to accredit science-based courses than non-science courses.<br />
<br />
He said, “If we have an admixture of the two which is the typical 
scenario in most universities, the cost can range between N1.8bn and 
N2.7bn if the programmes are to be elevated from the denied status.<br />
<br />
“In 2004, Kogi State University spent about N900m to get about 20 of its
 programmes re-accredited. In 2014, a number of universities seeking 
re-accreditation for about 20 courses are asking their proprietors for 
about N1.5bn.”<br />
<br />
Okebukola, however, blamed the governors’ preference for luxury at the 
expense of investment in education on members of their state Houses of 
Assembly who approved money for giant Government Houses.<br />
<br />
He said, “Education is a potent tool for fast-paced development and 
investment in the sector should never be made secondary to luxury. No 
governor will start using tax payers’ money to build a giant Government 
House without approval by members of his state House of Assembly who are
 the representatives of the people.<br />
<br />
“The greater concern is not the governor who spends the people’s money 
on a structure in his state, but those who steal the money to build 
giant structures in Dubai, the United Kingdom, the United States and 
South Africa, among others.’’<br />
<br />
The Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Prof. (Mrs.) 
Mopelola Omoegun, said, “According to the NUC, it will   cost a minimum 
of N9bn to build a standard university in the country and I think it is 
not fair for governors to spend almost same amount to build their 
lodges.<br />
<br />
“The state of education in this country will continue to fall if there 
is no adequate funding. We have been talking about this all the time. 
What is the root of the falling standard of education? It is inadequate 
funding. There is need for adequate funding. If our governors will play 
their politics right, they have to fund this sector well even if they 
have to sacrifice their comfort for the benefit of all. They should make
 it viable.<br />
<br />
“Some of the state institutions are the direct victims of this menace. 
That is why it may be difficult to even establish new higher 
institutions in such states. To all the governors, provide facilities 
and funds, and we will get the results we want,” she added.<br />
<br />
Also, an Abuja-based lawyer and social commentator, Jide Oluyemi, said 
it was still unacceptable for a state government to spend billions of 
naira on building one Government House when the Federal Government gave 
each of the nine newly established universities N2bn as take-off grant.</div>

The political landscape is taking shape ahead of the 2015 battle. About 
1,000 PDP members including the former National Treasurer, Bode 
Mustapha, who are loyal of President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ogun State 
have defected to the APC.<br />
<br />
Mustapha, also a former member of House of Representatives between 1999 
and 2003 who had earlier submitted his form of intent for the Ogun 
Central Senatorial seat, led other prominent members of the PDP 
including the former Chairman of Abeokuta North, Sunday Akintona. He 
described APC as a better alternative to PDP.<br />

They warned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba against 
plunging the country into war following his removal of the security 
details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.<div>

Mustapha said, “In Nigeria, we love sentiments a lot. Do we know what 
can happen to Nigeria if anything should happen to Speaker Tambuwal? 
Nobody knows! The IGP should not put this country on fire. He should 
immediately restore Tambuwa’s security aides until a court of competent 
jurisdiction declares his seat vacant. </blockquote>

“He was elected as the primus inter-pares in the House of 
Representatives. He was elected as leader by his members and it is only 
his members that can remove him as Speaker or a court of competent

Boko Haram is waxing stronger every day. Since the abduction of 200 
Chibok girls, the Nigerian leadership totally lost its senses if it ever
 had them in the first place. The Jonathan-led government refused to 
accost Boko Haram all through this year while they were holed up in 
Sambisa forest. The Minister of defense, Spy Ailyu Mohammed Gusau has 
been tactless and deliberately hopeless in defining a prompt defense 
strategy to combat the terror crisis.<br />

Boko Haram should have been starved in the forest; but this was never 
done. Nigerians demanded the right to bear arms for battle tested and 
ready civilians (CJTF), hunters, ex-service men and other vigilantes to 
assist the overwhelmed and sabotaged military crush Boko Haram, but the 
Jonathan-led government suspiciously refused this logical resort that 
worked in Algeria during the black decade of the 80s and has also been 
invaluable in restraining ISIS in Iraq, and rather de-armed the local 
populace with house-to-house searches, leaving them defenseless.<br />

The Nigerian head of security, NSA Aliyu Dasuki who is Gusau’s brother 
in-law; both recycled expired members of the Babangida dictator 
terror-loaded years, failed to advise the government on the necessary 
defense strategies. Nigeria’s ex-military Chief, General Azubuike 
Ihejirika, who was illegally/treasonably in charge of the army (not 
confirmed by the Senate and thus sacked in January of 2014 by a legal 
suit filed by Attorney Festus Keyamo) for the first five years of Boko 
Haram carnage during the Jonathan government has been accused of 
actually sponsoring the terror for reasons which inadvertently include 
the opportunity it availed of embezzling billions of dollars in 
budgetary allocations for defense. </blockquote>

The new military chiefs continued his doctrine and all these ineffective
 heads of service and their families were bribed with massive plots of 
land from land dedicated to a military barracks in Abuja, to the tune of
 billions of dollars as compensation for their failure to perform their

the Jonathan government recklessly wasted Nigerians time and put the 
nation in jeopardy by utilizing the terror crises they failed to control
 as a political gimmick; blaming their alleged opponents for the 
unbraided terror. Rather than act against the terrorists and their known
 sponsors, the Jonathan government enjoyed the crisis which they saw as 
an opportunity which had partially divided the nation across religious 
lines and delivered the presidency to Jonathan in 2011 and could be 
utilized to do so again.<br />
<br />
As Boko Haram under the protection of a government embroiled in 
corruption came out of Sambisa and began to capture territory in the 
nation’s northeast, rather than combat the terrorists, the Jonathan-led 
government in October of 2014, declared a unilateral cessation of fire 
against them. While the Nigerian military were told to stand down, Boko 
Haram was allowed to come out of Borno state and capture the entire 
northern one third of Adamawa State. Five local governments fell under 
Boko Haram control as parts of the new “#Bokoistan” republic. It is 
important to mention here that the former governor of Adamawa, a 
seasoned army veteran; Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako; who understood the 
operation and root of the terrorists and had the wherewithal to secure 
Adamawa state, had been impeached under the orders of the Jonathan 
government and removed from his office… could this have been to enable 
Boko Haram conquer his state?<br />
<br />
Today Boko Haram rules over a large and growing chunk of Nigeria; over 
20,000 sq kilometers, equal to four States. Over two million Nigerians 
are enslaved in this new terror nation. The issue of the kidnapped 
Chibok girls is now the smallest of the terrible problems. 2 million 
Nigerians are now literally abducted. In the 10+ local governments in 
Borno and the 5 in Adamawa, youth in their thousands are being 
conscripted and told to march in training as Boko Haram develops a 
military force of tens of thousands from our abandoned and citizens in 
the lost territory that can become the strongest human military force in
 West Africa.<br />

Terrorist military regimens in tens of thousands are being trained in 
Gamboru-Ngala, Dikwa, Abadam, Marte, Bama, Madagali, Gulak, Gwoza, 
Mitchika, Mubi and other captured local governments. Thousands of 
Nigerians are being slaughtered with latest counts from escapee Gwoza 
residents at 4,333, last week Monday. The total numbers may be in the 
tens of thousands as the local populace is being used either as s*x 
slaves, military conscripts or being wiped out in a deliberate genocide,
 but with information impossible to accurately verify and with no local 
and international responsible interest in the deadly crisis, the 
information and true state of horror trickles.<br />

just a year ago, Boko Haram similarly captured over 12 local governments
 in Borno and conscripted thousands of innocent youth. The government 
then after pressure from us, at last in May of 2013, ordered a State of 
Emergency and drafted the army to the north. The army then massacred the
 thousands of recruited northern youth, pushing the terrorists back into
 Sambisa. As soon as this victory was almost completely achieved, by 
August of that year the Nigerian army under General Azubuike Ihejirika 
suspiciously, abruptly stopped the successful military-Civilian-JTF 
joint action, replaced the JTF with a docile Army division, disallowed 
the efficient Civilian-JTF from their invaluable independent actions and
 cooperation with the military and allowed the terrorists regroup and 
forcefully recruit more north resident youth they captured in raids. 
Effort was also made to bribe and corrupt the Civilian-JTF leadership. 
Boko Haram was given a breather. By May of this year after months of 
government forces standing down and as we reported, watching the 
thousands of terrorist inhabited camps in Sambisa and not acting against
 them, the terrorists came out again and were are where we are today 
with territory, life and livelihood lost and the government is again 
keeping hands folded to allow millions get affected in the permitted

can fathom what it means to live in Boko Haram occupied territory under 
the Boko Haram government. This has been the faith of over a million 
Nigerians for a couple of months; with all their earnings being 
submitted to the terrorists in a Serf system of government. No one has 
been unaffected with all families losing their members and loved ones. 
We had told the Jonathan government to quit enabling terror and raid 
Sambisa to crush Boko Haram, but they pretended they were not doing so 
‘to save the 200 girls,’ today 2 million Nigerians are at the risk the 
girls were at. 2 million Nigerians are abducted – living in Boko Haram’s
 new nation – and millions may die before this situation deliberately 
allowed to veer out of control is checked if it ever will be.<br />

<b>The Rabih Azzubair Ibn Fadlallah People’s Resistance Front</b><br />
We have received reports and a diresct message of/from a northern 
citizen army led by a civilian warrior leader who goes by the legendary 
name, “Rabih Azzubair,” that is promising that his People’s Resistance 
Front is arraigning itself in the Amadamwa plateaus and preparing to 
combat the terrorists head-to-head and declares that any messenger of 
the Jonathan government, civilian or military that stands in the way of 
his mission to liberate the people of the northeast will also become his
 army’s sworn enemy. We hope and pray this is true and call on all 
living youth in the northeast and across Nigeria to support and join up 
with this resistance patriot’s army immediately.<br />

actor must be focused and believe that he wants to be someone in life.<br /><br /><b>Which movie brought you to limelight?</b><br />It
 was not a movie that made me popular. By the time I made my name, I was
 on a TV programme called Erinkeke in 1987, on Channel 8. We did a lot 
of soap operas before the TV station got burnt. Another TV station was 
built to replace Channel 8. It was called Channel 7 . So, there was an 
audition and a lot of comedians were there. They wanted a comedian and 
traditional actor. I was picked alongside Baba Suwe for the Erinkeke 
programme.<br /><br /><b>What’s your relationship with Baba Suwe?</b><br />We 
have a very cordial relationship because we have been together for long.
 He is my brother, father, everything in the industry.<br /><br /><b>What inspired you to be an entertainer?</b><br />When
 I was a young guy, I always watched entertainers like Baba Sala, Baba 
Mero and I really liked them, so I made a decision to be like them. So, I
 was determined, I prayed to God. Baba Sala is still alive. I am happy I
 met Baba Mero before he died.<br /><br /><b>What is the secret that has made you relevant in the entertainment industry?</b><br />It is the Lord’s doing; I cannot say it is by my power. It is God’s doing.<br /><br /><b>What has acting done for you?</b><br />Acting
 has done many things for me. It has made me popular. With my name, I 
can open a lot of doors that regular people cannot open. I thank God for
 my life. My children are in school and I am living like a normal man.<br /><br /><b>What are the challenges you face as a celebrity?</b><br />When
 you are popular, you have to behave yourself to keep your name. You 
cannot just act like a tout outside like we do in movies. You have to be
 tolerant. This is Opebe and Opebe is different from Yomi King. We have 
to interact normally with people.<br /><br /><b>Do you have any regret so far?</b><br />The
 only regret I have is the fact that I would have preferred to go to 
school more than I did. Because for now, I’m still a secondary school 
certificate holder. It is also not too bad, because a lot of people 
completed their education, but they cannot be where I am. Not that I am 
proud, no. I am thanking God for my life. It is to the glory of God. 
What He has done in my life; an ordinary man like me visits governors, 
commissioners and so many other things.<br /><br /><b>Which is more stressful: producing or acting?</b><br />Both
 are stressful. As a producer, before you produce any movie, you have to
 think very well. You need to write a good story. So also before you 
write a good story, it takes so much time to think and choose the story.
 It is not easy. You have to put all the scenes in the project together 
and in care of a director to direct it for you as a producer. While as 
an actor, it is not easy as well. But I prefer acting to producing 
because you will just be called upon to deliver the role you are playing
 very well and go.<br /><br /><b>How do you choose a good story?</b><br />I think very deep and wide before I choose any story. You want to produce a different story that nobody has ever seen.</span></span> </div>

father was now resting in the bossom of the Lord and he hoped to meet

“My father, the most humble and kindest I have ever met. My dad was such
 a gentleman, it was unbelievable. I can go on about my dad and I will 
still not have enough to describe how peaceful he was. He fought till 
the end but God knows the best.</span><br />

things plain and simple, my father was a good man and my consolation is 
knowing that he is definitely in heaven where we hope to meet him one 
day. Mummy and all of us will miss you dearly”, he said amid sobs and

wish this dream of your depature from my life will not be true but Gos 
cannot lie for he stated it in the holy book that the there is time for
