The Synagogue Church Of All Nations, SCOAN, building collapse calamity 
of Tuesday September 15, will serve as a real test for the Lagos State 
government’s support for Christians and Churches.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000;">Some say they don’t know how TB started, but who knows how Elijah started in the same Bible</span>?<br />
<br />
When Governor Babatunde Fashola started off about eight years ago, his 
government  said the noise from churches within residential areas was 
too much. It demanded that external cone speakers must be removed to 
reduce noise level within residential areas, and so on. We painstakingly
 adhered to the rules in our Church. Soon they discovered that Mosques 
also use huge external cone speakers and they call for prayers usually 
very loud about five times every day, from as early as 5am.<br />
<br />
If implemented, the law would catch more Mosques than Churches, so the matter died down...<br />

Early this year, I think around February, the President of Lagos Branch 
of CAN gave a press briefing after a conference, where he called for the
 Deputy Governor slot to be allocated to Christians in Lagos State. A 
short while after, the man’s church in the Lekki area was pulled down.<br />
<br />
But will that stop the cry for fairness in Lagos? I think not. This 
week, a pan-Igbo group campaigning for President Goodluck Ebele 
Jonathan, GEJ, has asked for the Deputy Governor slot to go to Ndigbo. 
Will LASG pounce on the executives? If they tried it, the consequences 
may be dire for APC in 2015. The truth is that the time has come for 
LASG to open up and expand the space between Muslims and Christians in 
matters of who rules Lagos.<br />
<br />
Back to SCOAN. Already people believe LASG will find one reason or the 
other to clamp down on that church using this opportunity. The man 
himself, Prophet TB Joshua is seriously pointing to terrorism, and the 
message to discerning minds is grave.<br />
<br />
Immature Christians are busy castigating TB Joshua rather than face the 
real issues. Some, out of sheer ignorance or because their GO told them 
so and so. </div>

Elijah in the book of Judges was described as Elijah the Tishbite, and 
there is no place called Tish or Tishb in Isreal! Some doubted Elijah’s 
calling too at that time, and that accounted for his anger against King 
Ahab’s, Captains of Fifties where he said: “If I be a Man of God”…and 
the consequences for those soldiers were bad! Drawing from that alone, 
amidst many more examples, it is utterly futile to use the tradition of 
men, and man’s history to question God’s call on a person, or argue 
God’s decision.</div>

<span style="color: #cc0000;">Most disown TB Joshua out of sheer envy and jealousy</span>.
 The man displays God’s power and anointing in uncommon ways, just like 
in the days of Simon Peter! I pray that God anoints many more like that,
 and give hell to the devil in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000;">The man [TB Joshua] is a great credit to 
the Church and Christianity in Nigeria as Heads of States and foreigners
 troop to the place, and that’s what the devil hates</span>. The devil 
hates Nigeria because we curse him and put him to shame at every corner 
during night vigils, prayer meetings and in our holy altars.<br />
<br />
Nigeria is at the centre of End-Time evangelism, and the devil knows it!
 What Christians often forget is that there is so much hatred against 
them from the pit of hell, and they are using the world and its leaders,
 even church leaders, to execute this plan. Their playing against each 
other over their earthly fight for supremacy is their folly, which their
 common enemy is exploiting.<br />
<br />
If TB Joshua is oppressed by Lagos state government, any Christian 
General Overseer will be oppressed whenever the opportunity presents 
itself to do so! The man has been pointing accusing fingers at 
terrorism, but our Church leaders castigate him and his claims, which 
are on real life recordings! How many planes have hovered four times 
over the headquarters of RCCG, TREM, Lord’s Chosen, Deeper Life, Christ 
Embassy, etc? The list is quite long. None! This plane hovers and soon 
after its last visit, the building collapses, and nothing is being said?<br />
<br />
I don’t know where the boss of  NEMA is coming from but his assertion 
that if it were a terrorist act, that the whole building will be reduced
 to rubbles is very wrong. He was too hasty to condemn, perhaps out of 
frustration from the reported reaction of the Church security.<br />
<br />
First, it depends on the kind of bullet that was fired. Second , the 
extent of damage intended. For example, an appropriate laser bullet 
fired into a building will go to the foundations and cause damaging 
ruptures which will trigger a collapse of the building. If broad 
spectrum bullets or missiles are released into the building, collapse 
will follow.<br />
<br />
NEMA should stick to their rescue mission and leave other conjectures to
 professionals. Buildings collapse everyday, not only in Lagos. It has 
happened in Abuja,in India, Pakistan,Egypt,  and will happen tomorrow. 
It is a human failure.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000;">Christianity in Nigeria is under a serious siege, and we must think together to stop it</span>.
 We must learn from the mistakes of the handling of Boko Haram. The 
insurgents have sympathy from some people in government, so we are today
 fighting to recover parts of Nigeria from a small group that could have
 been silenced two years ago!<br />
<br />
Maitastine, Boko Haram,ISIS, Al-Shabab, and the rest of them, are all 
Jihaddists fighting to eliminate the followers of the God of Isreal! 
They have no lines between the  Christian denominations.All Christians 
put together are called INFIDELS, and are expendable! This is why the 
Church leadership in Nigeria must grow above the denominational 
bickering, and see the real issues TB Joshua is pointing at!<br />

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said with the adoption of 
President Goodluck Jonathan by the party’s National Executive Committee,
 the party will not hold presidential primary scheduled for December 6. 
With the adoption, the President had become the sole candidate for the 
presidential election.<br />
<br />
According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“There is difference between convention and primary. What we are going 
to have on December 6 at the convention is to ratify the decision taken 
at NEC. There will be no primary again because we already have a 
candidate and what we will do is that delegates will just ratify him.”</blockquote>
So far, President Jonathan is looking good for the big Presidential contest in 2015.</div>

Much ado has been made about recent events in South Africa concerning 
the Nigerian-owned jet that was found loaded with millions of dollars 
and that was in the process of procuring arms and a fighter helicopter 
for the Nigerian military and security agencies. As a former Minister of
 Aviation, I wish to assure the general public that the flying of large 
sums of cash by security and intelligence agencies for the purchase of 
arms in a time of war and conflict is something that is quite normal and
 it happens quite often. As a matter of fact, it has happened under 
successive Nigerian governments, both military and civilian. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Obviously, in the case of the jet that flew to South Africa with $9.3 
million USD there must have been a breakdown of communication between 
the South African authorities and ours, and a few lapses in procedure 
here and there, which is what has led to the seizure of the money and 
all the ensuing suspicion and confusion. However, the idea that there 
was anything untoward or sinister about the whole transaction has no 
basis in logic, sense or rationality. </blockquote>

Perhaps, the only failing was the fact that the cash was not declared to South African Customs as is required by law...</blockquote>

The fact that our intelligence agencies have said that they were the 
ones that sent the money and that they have told us what it was for is 
good enough for me. It appears to me that this was a lawful and 
legitimate exercise and that there is nothing for anyone to worry about.
 I am aware of the fact that the British, French, American, Chinese, 
Israeli, Saudi Arabian and the Russian intelligence and security 
agencies, amongst many others, have indulged in such covert ‘’cash for 
arms’’ transactions on numerous occasions in different parts of the 
world.<br />
<br />
They either sell such arms at short notice and off the cuff or they 
procure them for themselves or for unknown third parties. Even the South
 Africans themselves have done so on numerous occasions in the past. 
These are legitimate transactions that are covert and secret in nature 
but they are certainly not illegal.<br />
<br />
Such is the murky and dark world of intelligence and security worldwide.
 There is plenty that we do not know about their day to day operations 
and they have their own unique way of doing things. We should not assume
 the worse or constantly denigrate them simply because we are not 
familiar or comfortable with their modus operandi. Suffice it to say 
that anyone that is in the process of getting arms to help our boys at 
the war front to fight Boko Haram, protect our citizens and our country 
ought to be regarded as heroes and not villains.<br />
<br />
The attempt by certain elements in the opposition and the Nigerian media
 to stigmatise all those involved in this transaction and make the whole
 thing appear like something that is out of the ordinary or sordid and 
criminal in nature really does nauseate me. Those that know no better 
ought to appreciate the fact that this is how the real world operates 
and they should learn to live with it.<br />
<br />
The Nigerian intelligence services operate in no different way to their 
colleagues in the international community and they do so with as much 
patriotism, professionalism and commitment as their counterparts from 
other parts of the world. And yes, we do have our very own ‘’James 
Bonds’’ in our intelligence services, even though, more often than not, 
they are not recognised, celebrated or appreciated. I counsel that we 
should cut these men and women that work in the shadows and in secrecy 
some slack and that we should not be too quick to label them as sleazy 
rogues who are attempting to indulge in all manner of criminal 
activities.<br />
<br />
Since we are on this topic, I would like to take this opportunity to say
 one or two things about the way in which Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the 
President of the Christian Association of Nigeria has been vilified, 
maligned and treated with the utmost disdain and contempt in this and 
other matters by elements within the leading opposition party in our 
country.<br />
<br />
The truth is that contrary to what some of the leading lights in the 
opposition would have us believe, he is not an arms smuggler, a money 
launderer, murderer or Boko Haram sponsor. Going to a foreign land and 
telling the parliament of that country that the President of CAN is the 
head of Boko Haram, as one or two of them have just done, is not only a 
pernicious and vicious lie, but it is also utterly shameful and 
disgraceful. Worst of all, it is an affront to the Christian community 
in Nigeria and a reckless provocation.<br />
<br />
On the South African matter, it is clear that Oritsejafor was not the 
owner of the $9.3 million and neither was he aware that the cash was 
being flown on the plane. Though he had confirmed that he was the owner 
of the plane he had also pointed out the fact that he had leased it out 
to a company on a long term basis. The firm had subleased it out to 
other companies for regular trips.<br />
<br />
He has also said that he had no idea about who they were subleasing it 
to, where they were flying it to or who or what they were carrying in it
 in any of their operations. The two companies that were involved, both 
the one that leased it from Oritsejafor and the one that subleased it 
from them for the journey to South Africa, have since confirmed and 
corroborated what he said. In my view, that ought to settle the matter.<br />
<br />
Those in our land that are trying to divide our ranks and denigrate us 
by alleging that Oritsejafor is involved in gun-running, 
money-laundering, Boko Haram or any other filthy and unsavoury criminal 
need deep intercession and deliverance from the demons that have taken 
control of them and using them. The truth is that it is a grave insult 
to the Christian community for anyone to suggest that the leader of the 
umbrella organisation of the over 80 million-strong Christian faithful 
in Nigeria is a sponsor of a vicious and barbaric Islamist sect that has
 killed and abducted more Christians and burnt more churches than any 
other terrorist organisation in the history of the African continent.<br />
<br />
The same people may as well tell us that the leaders of the Christian 
community in Syria and Iraq are the ones behind ISIL and ISIS. They can 
also tell us that the Christian leaders in their respective countries 
are the ones behind Al Shabab, the Taliban, the Al Nusra Front, Islamic 
Jihad, Al Qaeda, Daesh, Hamas, the Janjaweed, the Islamic Brotherhood 
and all the other terrorist organisations that have recently afflicted 
the world with their vile inhumanity, their sheer evil and their venal 
barbarism.<br />
<br />
It is only in Nigeria that the leadership of the Christian community 
would be accused, by a supposedly serious-minded opposition, of wanting 
to wipe out the Christian faith, wanting to kill all the Christians and 
moderate Muslims in the country and wanting to establish an Islamic 
fundamentalist state where sixth century Sharia law applies, where 
little girls are subjected to serial rape and where women are enslaved.<br />
<br />
Calling the President of CAN a money-launderer and arms-smuggler and 
accusing him of murder and sponsoring terror will not help to create 
religious harmony in our country. As a matter of fact, it will 
completely destroy it. Those that are doing so and the Janjaweed 
political party that is stirring up the hornet’s nest and encouraging 
them ought to think very carefully about the implications of what they 
are doing.<br />
<br />
We know that they have a religious agenda but they should not take this 
too far or push us to the wall. Our meekness and humility should not be 
taken for weakness or stupidity. It is in their own interest and in the 
interest of the unity of our nation for them to leave the President of 
CAN alone before matters get out of hand and before all hell breaks 
loose.<br />

He deserves to be accorded the same level of respect from the Muslim 
community in our country as the Sultan of Sokoto, the leader of the 
Muslims in Nigeria, is accorded by the Christians. What is sauce for the
 goose is surely sauce for the gander. A word is enough for the wise.<br />

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday paid a condolence visit to 
Prophet TB Joshua at his church premises to commensurate with him and 
other members of the Synagogue church family over the unfortunate 
incident of a building collapse that claimed about 80 lives under 
strange circumstances.</div>
<br />
Jonathan who described the incident as very sad, had said:<br />

"Today when I arrived Lagos, my first port of call was where a 
five-storey building collapsed and 80 people confirmed dead, about 131 
people were injured. It is a very sad story, very sad incident to us and
 the international community because most of the people that died in 
that building collapse were not ‎Nigerians. In fact about majority of 
them are South Africans. I spoke to the President of South Africa, Jacob
 Zuma to first express our own sentiments and condolences to the 
President and people of that country."</blockquote>

Some retired senior military officers have backed the death sentence 
passed on 12 soldiers of the Nigerian Army for engaging in acts 
considered as mutiny.<br />
<br />
The soldiers were court-martialled for a variety of offences, including 
firing shots at the General Officer Commanding, 7 Division of Nigerian 
Army, Maj Gen. Ahmed Mohammed, in Maiduguri, Borno State.<br />
<br />
The military court, which convicted the soldiers in Abuja, found 13 out 
of the 18 soldiers guilty of mutiny, criminal conspiracy, attempted 
murder (shooting at GOC's vehicle); insubordination and false 
accusation.<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Some retired General who spoke to Punch, said the death sentence was 
necessary for the military to maintain its age-long rules on discipline.</blockquote>

In the aftermath of the conviction, some prominent Nigerians and 
pressure groups have urged the military not to carry out the sentences. 
But the retired senior military officers hailed the judgment and said it
 would have to be carried out.<br />
<br />
A former Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Brig.-Gen. 
Williams Obene (retd.), said, “I commend the boldness of the Army 
authorities to follow the terms and conditions of service – the extant 
laws that established the armed forces, particularly the Army– and for 
trying to uphold discipline at the highest level.<br />
<br />
“When politicians and highly influential Nigerians interfere in the 
daily administration of the military, things become difficult. That 
situation is very prevalent under democracy.”<br />
<br />
Also, a former Adjutant-General of the Nigerian Army, Major General 
David Jemibewon (retd.), said the court martial must have considered 
evidence and circumstances before reaching its decision on the soldiers.<br />
<br />
Jemibewon who is a former Minister of Police Affairs said, “The military
 does not operate on sentiments or on people expressing either sympathy 
or lack of sympathy. Most of the things (we do) in the military are 
based on laws. It is difficult for me to align with people calling for 
clemency or pardon.<br />
<br />
“The court martial has the facts and they have now come to conclusion after allowing evidence.”<br />
<br />
In the same vein, retired Colonel Anthony Nyiam also hailed the 
judgment. Nyiam, was one of those sentenced to death by the regime of 
former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, said, “As a soldier, and 
respecter of the law and tradition, the worst thing a soldier can do is 
to mutiny. And the penalty, as the law says, should be served. If you 
interrupt the traditions of the military, you’re interfering with the 
foundations.”<br />
<br />
Similarly, a former military administrator of Bauchi and Osun states, 
Col. Theophilus Bamigboye (retd.), backed the sentence, adding that it 
was in line with military rules and regulations.<br />
<br />
He said, “The court has followed the laid down procedure and military

She sounded absolutely distraught, and utterly disconsolate. Her usual 
exuberance, the bonhomie which she wears like a badge of honor was 
missing both in her voice and in her demeanor. She was inconsolable,

Their rom*nce was strong, and Jim had spoken severally of plans to walk 
down the aisle with her. He had told me a number of times that in 
Keturah, he had found “a perfect mate – someone who was “s*xy, 
intellectually curious, exotic and edgy.” Keturah was known all over the
 world as Jim Iyke’s   girlfriend – a wife in waiting. They had traveled
 round the world together, and she had stood by him through most of the 
scandals that have continued to trail his professional and private life.
 Not even when another woman claimed to have dated Jim Iyke and later 
accused him of battering her and a business deal gone awry which was 
amplified in the media, she didn’t threaten to end the affair.<br />
<br />
Keturah Hamilton, the Jamaican-born actress, model and business woman 
was the partner tailor-made for Jim Iyke. She had accepted and tolerated
 all of the actor’s ‘foibles, issues and challenges’ and was determined 
to stick with him through thick and thin.“And then…Just when we thought 
the wedding invitations will soon be mailed out; just when we thought 
the loving duo had reached a point of no return in their relationship, 
the news broke out that the story book romance had ruptured; that the 
center of the relationship could no longer hold. Jim Iyke had ‘bailed’ 
out of the affair and appeared to have acted out some of the elements in
 their joint reality show “Jim Iyke Unscripted.” He was said to have 
ended their six year-old affair in a most emotionally callous way. He 
simply walked away “without even a phone call” recounted tearful 
Keturah.<br />
<br />
“He took away six years of memories, of support of love and all that I 
did for him-just like that. How mean and callous can one get?<br />
<br />
Keturah also recounted how Jim Iyke used and dumped her. “Jim was 
supposed to come to New York and stay for six months, during which time,
 he would go to an acting school here in New York and then we would move
 to Los Angeles and get married and pursue our acting dreams. I was 
looking forward to that with eagerness and then he just walked away.”<br />
<br />
Asked what could have been the reason for such a change of heart, 
Keturah said “We had problems like normal lovers do, but we always 
resolved them amicably. I know there was something Jim asked me to do, 
which I didn’t want to do right away. But that should not have made him 
to do what he did.”<br />
<br />
However, when pressed to reveal what it was that Jim wanted her to do, she said it was personal.<br />
<br />
Keturah said she feels used and dumped. “I played along in the reality 
show as if I truly was a jealous and crazy lover. It was an act, but now
 I feel as if Jim set me up. He is a wicked man. I stood by him through 
all his troubles and tribulations. I helped bring him to the limelight 
when the light of his career was dimming. He is an ingrate and I leave 
him to God.”<br />
<br />
One thing that seems to have pained Keturah more than anything else is 
the rumour making the rounds that Jim left her for the Ghanaian actress,
 Nadia Buari. “That is the rumour I have heard and I know it is not just
 a rumour. They have been hooking up in Ghana. They were together at 
Tuface’s wedding and appear to be everywhere together. I just can’t 
believe Jim would be this ungrateful – after all I have done for him. I 
have not been able to accept this and I am truly in a state of shock. If
 Jim could treat me the way he did, after six years of being there for 
him, supporting him, encouraging him in all that he did, then I wish 
Nadia the best of luck.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Keturah has moved on with her life.<br />

I read with interest Asari Dokubo’s comments published on September 14 
in the Daily Post. Asari is quite correct in saying that he knows me 
well and has met members of my family. In 2004, the Niger Delta was 
aflame with conflict. Asari, Ateke Tom and Tompolo were waging a fierce 
war against the Nigerian federal and state governments. <span style="color: #cc0000;">Many people had been killed</span>.<br />
<br />
Nigerian military were having trouble contending with Asari’s guerrilla 
warfare. Small, highly mobile and heavily armed militant forces in fast 
boats struck across the Niger Delta targeting oil installations and 
military posts. Nigeria’s oil output at one point dropped to  as low as 
600,000 barrels per day and on average was halved to one million barrels
 per day.<br />
<br />
This was a devastating blow to Nigeria’s economy and the operations of 
the major international oil companies. Apart from the economic impact, 
communities were suffering from the conflict with many innocent people 
killed in military efforts to purge the communities of militants...<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6589160015449763735" name="more"></a><br />
My wife and I were living in Port Harcourt and, in 2004, I explored the 
idea of a peace deal with an Ijaw friend, Von Kemedi. As an Ijaw, he 
knew Asari who was also Ijaw. Von was able to make contact with Asari 
who agreed to meet with me.<br />
<br />
Von and I subsequently travelled through the swamps in a speed boat to 
Opurata  village to see the damage to villages before transferring to a 
canoe that we paddled to another village from where we were met by 
Asari’s men in another fast boat. With a blindfold on we were taken to 
another island where we waited until another boat escorted us to Asari’s
 camp. A vigorous discussion took place that night surrounded by Asari’s
 well-armed fighters. By the end of the night, the foundation of a peace
 deal has been set down.<br />
<br />
I subsequently took the peace proposal to President  Olusegun Obasanjo 
and found him ready and willing to support peace and disarmament. The 
deal also encompassed demobilisation and a programme to reintegrate the 
militants back into the communities. This required a skills training 
programme which President Obasanjo supported. A final essential element 
was weapons surrender and destruction. The protocol used was that set 
down by the UN and was agreed by both sides.<br />
<br />
At the Villa<br />
I stayed in close contact with Asari by satellite phone each evening 
around 5pm. We worked out the details of the peace process. The first 
step was a ceasefire. The ceasefire was set in place on  September 8, 
2004,  but in the following days was broken three times and each time it
 was the Nigerian military that broke the ceasefire. Even when under 
fire during a ceasefire breach Asari, honoured his word and withdrew, 
firing only for self-protection.<br />
<br />
To complete the peace deal, President Obasanjo directed me to oversee 
the extraction of Asari and his key commanders in September 2004. I 
travelled to the Niger Delta with a handful of SSS men headed by Fubara 
Duke, an Ijaw man known to Asari and trusted by President Obasanjo.<br />
<br />
At 1am on September 29, 2004 Asari, and his commanders met us at 
Abonnema Landing in the Niger Delta and we proceeded to Port Harcourt 
airport where we boarded a plane at dawn to take us to Abuja and direct 
to President Obasanjo in the Cabinet Room. That day was punctuated with 
amazing revelations as Asari recounted events that led him and his men 
to defy the government and launch a guerrilla style campaign.<br />
<br />
Asari always kept his word to me. He gave me an undertaking on the 
ceasefire and kept it even in the face of breaches by the military. When
 it came to  time for weapons surrender, he asked me how many weapons I 
wanted him to surrender. I said, ‘ Asari you have 3,000 men, so I want 
3,000 weapons.’<br />
<br />
Asari gave a commitment to hand over 3,000 guns, 100 general purpose 
machine guns and some rocket launchers which were subsequently destroyed
 in a series of public destructions to UN standards overseen by the Army
 at Bori Military Camp in Port Harcourt in mid-November 2004.<br />
<br />
President Obasanjo kept his word and on  October 1,  2004 the peace 
accord was announced and Asari and his commanders returned to the Niger 
Delta.<br />
<br />
Asari is correct in saying I never paid him anything. I never paid 
anyone and no one paid me either by way of funds or favours. President 
Obasanjo did not offer to pay me for the Niger Delta peace accord and I 
did not seek payment. The peace deal was built on trust. I went to 
Asari’s camp unarmed and without any security.<br />
<br />
Asari and his key commanders travelled with me and the small SSS 
contingent totally unarmed. We trusted each other with our lives and 
that built trust. There can be no peace without trust. Without trust, 
there is merely a ceasefire which will eventually be broken and the 
fighting resume.<br />
<br />
Asari said in his interview with the Daily Post that President Obasanjo 
broke his word. I am not so sure of that. What I think Asari may be 
referring to is the demobilisation and skills training that did not 
materialise after the peace accord. Funds were to be set aside to train 
the ex-militants for employment and to reintegrate them back into their 
communities. This phase of the work was to be undertaken by the state 
governors.<br />
<br />
By March 2005, a full six months had passed without any sign of training
 and reintegration. It was no surprise then to find 200 Niger Delta 
ex-militants had been recruited by foreign mercenaries to participate in
 a coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea. The ex-militants were intercepted 
as they departed Warri in a ship bound for Guinea. They had each been 
promised $5,000 and an AK47.<br />
<br />
Had the promised skills training and reintegration been implemented, 
these young men probably would not have agreed to join the coup attempt 
in Equatorial Guinea. So Asari is right but it was more likely that the 
governors were not sincere and not former President Obasanjo. It was the
 governors that had armed, promoted and used the gangs for political 
purposes in much the same way that former Governor Modu Sheriff  was 
alleged to have done in Borno State..<br />
<br />
It was this failure to honour the agreement to demobilise by providing 
skills training and reintegration that fuelled discontent and provided 
the conditions that formed MEND which added bombing and kidnapping to 
its mode of operation.<br />
<br />
Contrary to Asari’s understanding, former President Obasanjo did not 
bring me to Nigeria on my recent trip to seek the release of the Chibok 
girls or for any other purpose. Nor did President Jonathan or anyone 
else. I came to Nigeria in April this year to seek the release of the 
Chibok girls at my own expense and of my own volition because I could 
see no progress on the release of the kidnapped girls.<br />
<br />
Girls horrifying r*pe<br />
While Asari may not believe any girls were kidnapped, let me assure you 
that hearing the stories of some girls who have escaped from Boko Haram 
camps is a sobering experience. There are many girls who have been 
kidnapped apart from the girls from the Chibok school.<br />
<br />
The kidnapping of girls by Boko Haram has been going on for at least a 
year. Initially Boko Haram kidnapped girls because the fighters could 
not go back home to their wives. They used the kidnapped girls. Girls 
tell how they were r*ped every day, week after week.<br />
<br />
One girl was r*ped every day, sometimes several times a day by groups of
 men. Some did not survive the ordeal. The escaped girls tell harrowing 
stories of r*pe and abuse. They are traumatised and require medical 
treatment and counselling. These girls are testament to the horrifying 
truth about the kidnappings.<br />
<br />
But the Chibok kidnappings were only the start of my recent journey to 
Nigeria. It soon became apparent the (alleged) sponsors did not want any
 interference in their plan. The “political Boko Haram” which 
(allegedly) started out as Sheriff’s ECOMOG (so named after the military
 peace keeping forces operating in Liberia at that time because an SDP –
 Social Democratic Party-   candidate was protected from an angry mob in
 Bama by a group of youths supporting the SDP)  that targeted his 
political opponents in the 2003 and 2007 elections have since mutated 
into the Boko Haram we see today that terrorises through beheadings, 
butchering innocent villagers, bombing innocent people at shopping malls
 and in churches, raping and kidnapping.<br />
<br />
It is true that Sheriff fell-out with Yusuf and the allegation stands 
that when the military captured Yusuf in late July 2009 and handed him 
over to the police in Borno State, he was allegedly  executed on 
Sheriff’s instruction. Thus the root of the perception that Sheriff 
cannot be a sponsor but a hated enemy of Boko Haram. But the core of the
 old Yusufiya  is no longer part of Boko Haram.<br />
<br />
Boko Haram is a mutation of  political Boko Haram and Shekau’s Ansaru. 
The Yusufiya grew out of the Izala movement and had great respect for 
Izala. Boko Haram now beheads Izala followers. The “slaughterers” work 
with the political assassins and suicide bombers.<br />
<br />
The sponsors of Boko Haram do not care how many innocent Nigerians are 
slaughtered, how many women are raped, how many girls and boys are 
kidnapped, how many villages are plundered. I have met too many victims 
to say, “It is not my problem”.<br />
<br />
We are each diminished if we allow such crimes against our fellow 
citizens to persist. The Nigerian military is diminished if it uses Boko
 Haram tactics to address the problem. Evil will flourish and triumph if
 good men and women do nothing.<br />
<br />
Many Nigerian politicians have said little and done nothing to curb the 
slaughter of Nigerians that is being supported by the sponsors. While 
fathers die to protect their daughters and wives are raped and butchered
 the sponsors of Boko Haram are accorded privileges and protection.<br />
<br />
They fly in private jets and are accorded military protection. Are the 
sponsors of Boko Haram so far above the law? Have the citizens of 
Nigeria lost the right to bring these men to justice? Who will stand up 
for the poor and oppressed who are being slaughtered and raped in their 
hundreds? By the grace of God we trust that good men and women will 
stand up and justice will prevail.<br />

multiple sources in and around Borno are confirming that Nigerian 
military air-strike in the Konduga area has sent the dreaded Boko Haram 
leader to his grave. News of the death of Shekau and some of his top 
commanders in the latest battle with troops in Konduga is spreading.<br />

Shekau’s reported death is also contained in the account of some of the 
survivors of an attack of the sect on Mainok on Friday, as they said 
they were afraid of returning to the town “because we are told the 
insurgents are mad as a result of the killing of their leader, Abubakar 
Shekau, in Konduga.”<br />

Reports reaching Tribune in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, indicated 
that over 300 people were killed when Boko Haram attacked Mainok market 
on Friday in what was believed to be a retaliation for their leader’s 
death. They attacked when villagers were in the peak of trading on the 
market day.<br />

A local, Modu Jakana, who narrowly escaped that attack, told Tribune 
that the insurgents came in from all angles, “shooting the people as if 
they were exchanging fire with the military. We don’t know how we 
escaped, but we were so lucky. They were so determined to kill 
everybody. I saw so many corpses while we were running for dear lives. 
At the main road, vehicles that were on top speed also killed so many 
people as there was confusion everywhere.<br />

“This morning, some of our people told us that over 300 people, 
including some of the insurgents, were killed because we learnt that the
 military came and engaged them in a fierce fight. There is calm, but we
 won’t return to Mainok.<br />

“For now, they said calm has returned, but we cannot go back because 
these people may strike again. They said the people (Boko Haram) are 
mad, following the killing of their leader, Abubakar Shekau, during the 
attack in Konduga.”<br />
