Ex-Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu
 Ribadu, on Sunday justified his defection from the opposition All 
Progressives Congress to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, saying he 
did so because the APC is not better than the PDP.<br />

Ribadu, who was the 2011 presidential candidate of the defunct Action 
Congress of Nigeria, forerunner of the APC, said there was no real 
difference between the PDP and APC, in terms of the character of the 
people who constituted both parties.<br />

“In Nigeria, especially in politics, you can’t say that this is an 
exclusive party for the people who are thieves or this is for good 
people. </blockquote>

people. Of course, the good may be more than the bad or the bad may be 
more than the good in any group. </blockquote>

Abdulaziz said, “It is not true that he (Ribadu) was desperate to 
realise his political ambition. This is because this decision was taken 
in the overriding interest of serving the people.<br />
<br />
“What matters for him is service. That is why even when he was a member 
of the opposition party, when government asked him to serve the country,
 he accepted the offer and he did a wonderful job that everybody hailed 
except those who don’t want change in the system. If you are ready to 
serve the people, sometimes you will have to do something that is not 
even palatable to yourself.”<br />

But another of Ribadu’s close political associates in Yola told Punch 
that Ribadu’s defection had to do with his governorship ambition and 
fears that he might lose out in the race for APC ticket.</div>

The simplification of banking services by technology has brought with 
hazards, including online frauds, Punch's Ozioma Ubabukoh writes on the 
increasing rate of tampering with customers’ funds by bank employees.<br />

Cases of internal online fraud committed by bank employees have been on 
the rise lately. It was gathered that porous data system, coupled with 
dwindling remuneration in some of the banks, might have been encouraging
 bankers to tamper with customers’ funds.<br />
<br />
Analysts are of the view that the quest to live fantasy lifestyles might
 have led some of the bankers to engage in such an illicit act. An 
employee of a new generation bank said many of his former colleagues 
were sacked within the last two years due to discreet online 
manipulation of customers’ funds.<br />

“<span style="color: #cc0000;">Some had to resign when the lid on their deals was blown off</span>.
 The most common cases are those that have to do with bankers tampering 
with the accounts of deceased customers and transferring the funds into 
their personal accounts within the same bank, or some other banks.”</blockquote>

The Central Bank of Nigeria had last month said there was a need to 
collaborate with various industry stakeholders to ensure that banks and 
other players in the financial services sector had maximum information 
security.<br />
<br />
The CBN, through its Chief Information Security Officer, Taiwo Longe, 
had said that information security involved the confidentiality, 
integrity and availability of data, regardless of the form the data 
might take; whether electronic or print.<br />
<br />
He said, “Financial institutions, hospitals, telecommunications 
corporations and private businesses, amass a great deal of confidential 
information about their customers, employees, products, research 
findings and financial status, among others.<br />
<br />
“As such, there is a need for maximum security of this information that 
is collected, processed and stored on computers and transmitted across 
computer networks.<br />
<br />
“When the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data is 
impacted, security is said to have been breached. There are various 
threats to information security. Some are very dangerous and disruptive;
 others are just a nuisance.”<br />
<br />
Responding to the issue of online banking fraud, the Bankers’ Committee,
 through the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Access Bank Plc,
 Mr. Herbert Wigwe, said, “Online frauds in the banks are connected to 
biometrics. All frauds will end up in some accounts; so, if you have 
details of the person that post that account, that is the biometric 
details, no two individuals can have the same details, it will be easy 
to basically track or determine the culprit within the overall system.<br />
<br />
“Remember that the industry is going to be sharing this platform. 
Therefore, once you know where that person is across the entire 
industry, we will all know that the person is a fraudster and he cannot 
change his name. The day you register, that is your name forever. If you
 come back with a thumbprint, and you try to change your name, the 
system will determine what you are about to do.”<br />
<br />
“The second level is that the Bankers’ Committee is also looking at ways
 to determine what the appropriate levels of online transfers can be. 
The whole idea is to mitigate the issue of people transferring money and
 huge fraud. By reducing the amount, for instance, the incidence and the
 value of what that fraud can possibly be can be reduced.”<br />
<br />
An industry analyst, Eseoghene Idolor, told our correspondent that poor 
internal control and checks by the banks usually created loopholes for 
their employees to commit fraud.<br />
<br />
“Therefore, to reduce or eliminate fraud, there is a need to always have
 effective audit, security and surveillance systems during and after 
bank official operating hours,” he said.<br />
<br />
The immediate past Chairman, Committee of e-Banking Heads, Mr. Chuks 
Iku, however, differed, saying, “It is very difficult to tamper with the
 accounts of customers in a bank because of the internal processes.”<br />
<br />
According to him, closing an account or tampering with someone else’s 
money is not that easy, adding, “I do not agree that customers’ funds 
can be tampered with.<br />
<br />
“If someone wants to commit fraud in the bank, it is difficult to stop, but such fraud will definitely be found out,” he added.<br />
<br />
The Head, Brand and Media, eTranzact, Mr. Adeyemi Opene, encouraged 
customers to embrace mobile banking, “as there is minimal fraud in the 
process and it will help to avoid the bankers’ undue access to 
customers’ funds.”<br />
<br />
“We didn’t pioneer online transactions, but we have really worked so 
hard to ensure that mobile transactions are seamless and secure,” he 
added.<br />
<br />
Opene argued that for every transaction through mobile banking, there 
was a two-level authentication that made it very difficult for fraud to 
be perpetuated.<br />
<br />
“We pioneered the Electronic Security Authentication; so, there is no 
way fraud can occur through the mobile money process, except when one 
reveals one’s card details,” he added.</div>

When the news of Julius Agwu contesting for Rivers State
Governorship <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD6">elections</span> broke out few days ago a lot of people thought it was a
joke and some even said the comedian was only just trying to promote his UK
show. But it seems a lot of people might be wrong as Julius says it’s for real
and even took out time to grant <a href="http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=77305" target="_blank">The SUN</a> newspaper an interview, though he
admits his wife is scared, he says, but you know that’s how women are. Hmm, I

Yes it is true and ever since that story broke I have been
receiving calls and <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD11">getting</span> text messages from people. Even on social media,
people have been telling me to just stick with comedy. They think it’s just
another joke from me but it’s not. I mean <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">to contest</span> in 2015. I am above 40, to
be precise I am 41 and I doubt if those who go for governorship have two heads.
I think it’s <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">high time</span> youths realise they need to be part of the change that
they so much desire and that’s exactly what I am doing.</div>

<b>For how long have you been nurturing this <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">ambition</span>?</b></div>

It’s been on for a very long time but I was a bit sceptical
whether the time was right or not. However, after consulting with my people and
the subsequent pressure they mounted on me, I finally took the bait to
contest. The governor, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi is from my ethic group; he’s
Ikwere like I am and he has done a good work for the people of Rivers State. I
am here to continue the good work he has started. As a matter of fact, I don’t
want anybody to come and make a mess of his achievement so I want to continue
and be able to build on his achievement. </div>

<b>You are from the same ethnic group with Governor Ameachi. Is
that not a treat to your ambition regarding the principle of rotation?</b></div>

It’s not. Governorship is not rotational. There is no such
thing in the Nigerian constitution; everybody, anybody has a right to contest.</div>

That is the mystery. A lot of people have been asking that
under what platform am I running and all that. What I say to them is that they

concentrating on my UK tour.</div>

his legacy. We know how politics in Nigeria goes. Once an opposition party
wins, they crush every good work the former governor has done rather than
building on the existing legacies and achievement of the past administration
and creating jobs for the youths.</div>

You know how women are. She’s scared that it’s not my thing
and I shouldn’t get into it. She’s been answering calls and she is tired. I
understand how she feels because the way politics is played here, not everyone
who has a family would encourage their loved ones to get into it. In fact, she
has told me to stop the joke. That was the last message she sent me and I
understand how she feels. I have been getting calls from people who are

Indeed we live in a wicked world. Two of the eight robbers
who accosted a couple and their three months <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">old baby</span> on their way to their
village in Kogi have been arrested and will soon be prosecuted. The robbers
were eight in number and after <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD10">robbing</span> them of their cash and valuables at gunpoint;
they tied the husband to a tree and r*ped his wife until she fainted <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD7">in his presence</span>. </div>

The eight of them took turns in r*ping her until she fainted
before escaping with their car and valuables. As God will have it; two of the
robbers were later apprehended while trying to escape from the scene of the

Tears flowed freely as people beheld the pathetic sight of a
middle-aged <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD8">nursing</span> mother whose three-month old baby was thrown into the bush
while an eight-man g-ang of devilish souls r*ped her to a point of
unconsciousness right in the presence of her husband.</div>

The woman (names with held) who had bruises all over her
body especially in the waist region could barely stand unaided when she was
sighted at the headquarters of the Kogi State Police <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">Command</span>.</div>

Sunday Sun gathered that the suspects waylaid the couple on their
way to the village, and dispossessed the husband and wife of their cash and
valuables at gunpoint. Then they took them in <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD3">the family car</span> to a nearby bush
where they tied the husband and r*ped the wife who was at that time breast
feeding her three-month-old baby.</div>

It was learn that one of the armed robbers on getting to
the bush slapped the wife and forcibly took the <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">baby</span> away from her hands and
threw the baby aside. He pointed a gun to her head and ordered her to undress.</div>

For more than two hours, the eight robbers, one after the
other, thereafter engaged the poor woman in a marathon s*x while the husband
watched helplessly and the hapless innocent baby cried profusely.</div>

Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Acting
Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude said the family was traveling from
Ogugu in Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State to Iga-Ikeje when the
robbers accosted them.</div>

Odude said the victim (names withheld) a native of Ogugu
reported at the Olamaboro Police Division and stated that he was traveling in
his Toyota Corolla car with his wife and baby when suddenly some eight armed
robbers accosted them, dispossessing them of their car, N6600 cash and mobile
phone sets.</div>

The alleged robbers then bundled them into the vehicle and
drove them inside the bush about two kilometer from the road, where the man
was tied to a tree prior to ra-ping the wife. Giving further explanation of what
transpired, he said the wife who was oblivious of their plan as she was crying
and begging them not to kill her husband. This prompted one of the robbers to
give her a vicious slap, took the baby away and ordered her to undress, while
pointing a gun to her head.</div>

He said the woman fainted after the ordeal.</div>

Done with their evil business, they sons-of-the devil tied
up the woman’s legs and drove away in the car.</div>

After about 40 minutes, the woman regained consciousness,
struggled to free herself and walked to a nearby village, where she informed a
group of vigilantes, who later rescued the husband.</div>

On receiving the report, a police patrol team led by Mr.
Mb-ang Eteng, an <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">Assistant</span> Superintendent of Police tracked down and arrested
two of the robbers, whose names were given as Vincent Oguche from an
uncompleted building, and Femi Simon, who attempted to run away, but was
overpowered by policemen and both of them taken into custody.</div>

The police said the two suspects in the course of
interrogation confessed to the crime and thereafter led the detectives to
their hideout, where the <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD5">stolen car</span>, assorted guns and handsets were recovered.
The names of two other members of the g-ang were given as Friday Oguche and Joe
Agbo. The police are still on the trail of the remaining four members who are
still at large.</div>

Vincent Oguche while acknowledging that he and the others
actually committed the heinous crime, explained why they r*ped the woman
despite that she was nursing a baby, saying: “We were not in our right sense
because we were very high on drugs.”</div>

Femi Simon who claimed to be a native of Iyah Gbede in Ijumu
Local Government Area of the state said he was an unemployed driver who was
conscripted into the deal. He said he could not control his libido when he saw
his comrades-in-crime ‘enjoying themselves’ so he had to join them to have a
taste of the woman.</div>

The police rebuffed the request to speak with the woman,
firmly saying she should be left alone on account of the horrendous ordeal she

Amid the fear of the Ebola virus in the country, it was with
disbelief that residents of Iguosa community in Ovia North East Local
Government Council of Edo State ran to an uncompleted building in the area to
see an 18-year-old boy, simply identified as Ighodaro, making love to a <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">dog</span> .</div>

Curiously, the dog was said to have enjoyed the s*x before
the crowd stormed the scene. Ighodaro was in JSS 2 before he dropped out from
school, due to the inability of his poor parents to pay his <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD7">school fees</span>.</div>

He learnt welding, but, while doing that, he became a lover
of dogs.  He confessed to Sunday Vanguard
that he has slept with different dogs five times until this <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD5">last episode</span>. It
was learnt that a member of <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">the community</span> was passing by the uncompleted
building when he sighted the boy making love to the dog and raised the alarm
that attracted the villagers.</div>

Mr George Ogbonmwa, owner of the dog, expressed  shock at the incident, explaining that when
he saw the young man with the dog, he did not know he had an ulterior
motive.  “I thought he wanted to play
with the dog only for him to end up in an 
uncompleted building where he had canal knowledge of the dog.</div>

This is like another <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD11">dream to</span> me because I have not seen
this kind of thing in my life before”. Following <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD10">what the</span> villagers described
as an abomination, the Odionwere (head)of the community, Elder Clifford
Igiehon, was invited to the scene and expressed shock over the incident which
he described as a taboo.</div>

He said,”We have never seen this kind of thing before in
this  community. This is an abominable
act and we don’t want the suspect to come and corrupt other people here.   What he committed was a taboo. We will call
the parents to come and atone the gods but the boy will go on his own, because
we cannot kill him.</div>

But we have killed the dog because that is the first thing
to do. And because we don’t want this kind of taboo to happen again, we decided
to hand the boy over to the police. This kind of thing has never happened before,
the boy has to face the music. The parents will perform traditional rites, it
is going to cost about a hundred thousand Naira.</div>

The boy knows what he is doing, he is not mad. We know him
from the beginning, he was in school before he went to learn welding; may be
the parents could not pay his school fees. We were even shocked he said he has
had s*x with dogs five times; that will tell you he knows what he is doing”.</div>

The community leaders further used the opportunity to appeal
to the police: “Give us more policemen in our area because a lot of evil things
are happening now. Like what the boy did is a taboo and they must cleanse the
land with the appropriate sacrifice. We need the police to be around us so that
these evil happenings will stop”.</div>

The suspect, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard at the Edo State
Police Command Headquarters, Benin-City, said he did not know what was wrong
with him, admitting that he enjoyed s*x with five dogs while two bit him during
the act.  “I learnt welding around Iheya.
I don’t know when I slept with the dog, I slept with dogs five times. Some of
the dogs  bit me, I have been bitten two
times and each time I have a dog bite my grand father will treat me”, he said.</div>

Asked about the tactics he deployed to attract the dogs, Ighodaro stated: “When
I call them, I will be rubbing their head, petting them so that they will feel
free with me. I will be playing with them and they will follow me. They will
bark at me some times, and when I notice that it is serious I will leave them.
Any one that is friendly with me, I take that one to an uncompleted building
and have s*x”.</div>

The suspect who was asked about his girl friend, said he
broke up with her last year and started making love to dogs this year. His
words: “ I had a girlfriend last year but we are no longer together. I started
sleeping with dogs this year around March. I don’t know what is wrong with me.</div>

None of my relations knows I sleep with dogs. In this
particular case, the dog is very familiar with me; so it was easy to lure it
away. While I was having s*x with the dog, one man saw me and ran to inform the
Odionwere. They now came to pick me and they asked the police to go and check
me and see if I have any disease. I don’t know what is wrong with me”.</div>
